Reserve flier space 3 weeks prior. UPCOMING EVENTS Pantry Weekend THIS WEEKEND, April 23-24, is our parish s monthly Food Pantry Weekend. We are requesting donations of the following items: canned chicken, canned tuna, cold cereal, peanut butter and jelly, canned fruit and canned pasta sauce. These items can be brought to Mass or to the Pastoral Office during the week. Monetary donations may be made using the St. Vincent de Paul envelopes found in the pews. Please make checks payable to "St. Luke Catholic Community." We thank all of our parishioners for your generosity in supporting your St. Luke Food Pantry. As a result of your generosity, your Food Pantry continues to provide wholesome meals each month for 45+ families within our local community. Our next distribution is Friday, April 29. If you know of anyone in the community that is in need of this help, please have them call SVdP at (626) Mother-Daughter Tea St. Luke Youth Ministry will host a Mother-Daughter Tea on Saturday, April 30, Noon- 3:00 pm in the Parish Hall. Tickets: 1 Mother/Daughter ticket, $35 ($15/ticket for each additional daughter); Single ticket, $25. Please note: Age is 6 years and above. Purchase tickets early for a special drawing and table reservations. Ticket includes: varieties of fine teas, savories, fresh fruit, scones, finger sandwiches, pastries, and sweets; pleasant music; free 8x10 photo of mother/daughter. A special Mother s Day gift will be provided for mothers. Tickets are available in the Pastoral Office. First Friday Masses & Adoration First Friday Morning Mass on May 6 will be held at 9:00 am. Adoration will follow in the Chapel in the Pastoral Office until 7:00 pm. A First Friday Evening Mass will be held in the church at 7:30 pm. Father Eric Lewis will be the celebrant. Baptism Classes Baptism classes will be held on Tuesday, May 3, and May 10, at 7:30 pm. First class is held in the Parish Resource Center; the second is in the Church. Visit the Parish Master Calendar at for additional class dates. e-waste Collection and Fundraiser Boy Scout Troop 167 will host an e-waste Fundraiser on Saturday, May 14, 9:00 am to Noon in the North Parking Lot. This is a free e-waste event, where you can recycle old/ broken electronics, TV's or (small) electric appliances. The troop also accepts e-waste YEAR ROUND! If you need to arrange a pick-up within a 5-mile radius before or on the collection day, please call (323) Spring Play Coming in May Save the date! St. Luke Catholic School s Theater Program will be present Charlie and the Chocolate Factory on Thursday, May 26, at 7:00 pm in the Parish Hall. Doors open at 6:30 pm. May the Risen Lord shine brightly upon our faithful community this weekend as we come together to celebrate our 29th Annual Fiesta. I am always awestruck at how such big events can seemingly be pulled off without hitch; but, I also am aware of the answer: selfless, faith-filled people who see this as their niche to help out and build up the Kingdom of God. So, thank you, each of you for all the time and effort you have put into the planning and execution of this wonderful event. Together, we are the Body of Christ! SUNDAY GIVING: Easter 2016 $33,303 Easter 2015 $35,059 Cardinal McIntyre Fund Collection NEXT WEEKEND, April 30-May 1, is our Parish Collection Sunday for the Cardinal McIntyre Fund for Charity. Since 1951, this special fund helps those in crisis situations from Santa Barbara, Ventura and Los Angeles counties. Your contribution goes directly toward emergency needs for children, adults and families. You are their hope! Your gift provides one-time emergency help such as: food, utility, transportation, medical, housing, or funeral expenses. Envelopes are in the pews. Please make checks payable to St. Luke Church. NEWSand NOTES RE Program Registration Information for the Religious Education programs can soon be found on the Parish Web site and at the Pastoral Office. Most programs begin in the early fall. Vacation Bible School Vacation Bible School will be held the week of Aug. 1-5, 9:00 am-noon daily. Theme: Cave Quest - Following Jesus, the Light of the World! Come join us for a week filled with games, fun, learning and food. The early registration fee is $35 per child through June 13 (Potty-trained through 12 years of age). ANNOUNCEMENTS Mass for Fiesta Volunteers Mass will be held at 11:30 pm in the church on Saturday, April 23, following the close of fiesta for volunteers. Everyone is welcome. Hospitality Corner at Fiesta The Hospitality Corner will be hosted at the Fiesta Baked Goods Booth TODAY, Sunday, April 24, after the 8:30 and 10:30 am Sunday Masses. The Hospitality Corner will resume next Sunday, May 1, after the 8:30 and 10:30 am Masses with St. Luke Catholic School TK/K and the Family Ministry Groups as the host. Come by for some coffee, doughnuts and fellowship. Office Schedule The Parish and School Offices will be closed Monday, April 25, and reopen for regular hours the following Tuesday. Mother s Day Novena of Masses Coming Soon! Mother s Day cards suitable for mailing or giving to one s mother will soon be available at the church exits and in the Pastoral Office. Special envelopes for the names of mothers who are deceased are also available. The Novena begins at the Saturday, 5:30 pm Mass on May 7 and continues for nine days. Month of May Crib Project Our annual May Collection for the Pregnancy Help Center of San Gabriel Valley begins next weekend (April 30) and will continue through Sunday, May 29. You have always been extremely generous to us and we thank you for that. Please take a tag from the crib and bring the items back the next Sunday and place them in the crib. Please do not deliver items to the Pastoral Office. Donations, especially larger items, may be delivered to the Pregnancy Help Center, located at 5626 Rosemead Blvd., Temple City. Hours: Monday- Thursday, Noon-6:00 pm; Closed Friday-Sunday. Baby toiletries and diapers size 2, 3 and 4 are the number one need. All baby items are welcomed from newborn to 24 months. Thank you to the Knights of Columbus, St. Luke Council #9128 for the crib donation. Bereavement Ministry Volunteers The St. Luke Bereavement Ministry is in need of volunteers. The Contact Ministry works with the family from first contact through the funeral. If interested, please contact Kathy Estrada at (805) The Cooking Angels provide the desserts for funeral receptions and prepare the hall for the reception. If interested, please contact Rose Marie Good at (626) National Day of Prayer Event Everyone is welcome to attend the National Day of Prayer Event on Thursday, May 5, at 6:30 pm at Temple City Park. Music Prelude, 6:00-6:30 pm; Prayer and Music Program, 6:30-7:30 pm. Temple City Churches and the Synagogue will come together to pray for our city, state and nation. Please bring a chair or blanket to sit on and invite friends to come pray with you. THANKFULNESS- Stewardship calls us to be ever grateful for the gifts that God has given. Not only are we called to be grateful to God, but we also must be grateful to one another. Just as we thank God every day, a stewardship parish must also show gratitude, recognition and appreciation to those who have given generously of their time, treasure and talent to the support of the parish. Liturgy Notes True Christian Community Can you imagine a world such as the one put before us in today's scripture readings? Communities of believers everywhere would support and encourage one another and be identified as Christians by the way they love each other. It would be a world with no tears, no death and mourning, no crying out in pain. "Behold, I make all things new," we hear the Son of God say in the second reading from the book of Revelation (21:5). Is this world of John's vision only imaginary? Are these faithful followers for whom Jesus prayed only a savior's dream? Today they are put before us as a worthy goal. Weekly sessions begin June 27 and run through Aug. 14. Each session has a different theme, such as Carnival Week or Space Week. Camperships are available to those eligible for financial assistance.
