3 Pastoral Office (626) Father Mark s Corner Happy Birthday, Church! This weekend we celebrate the Feast of Pentecost and the gift of the Holy Spirit upon our community. We are sent forth into the world as bearers of the Spirit and proclaimers of the Good News. We are people of action who have spent time contemplating and worshiping the Lord and move out into our world to make a difference by bringing life to the Gospel. We celebrate with our young students this weekend when they receive their First Holy Communion and are challenged to see themselves as witnesses to the Lord s love in their lives. However, they must continue to witness that same necessary example in their own parents and other adults in their lives. The reception of a sacrament is NOT the end of the journey but the beginning of our response to a deeper involvement and pledge to our faith journey. May our faith life and this community be renewed each time we receive the Eucharist and hear the words of sending forth, sharing the gifts that God has given to each one of us. Blessings in God s Holy Spirit. Spiritual Reflection: Come, Holy Spirit! Renew us! Change us! Recreate us! Weekly Collection Report Saint Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church depends upon the generosity of its parishioners to support its mission of faith. Look around and see who has been called. Listen to the voices of those who proclaim Jesus is Lord. You'll find no race of people left out; you'll find no language on earth unfit to proclaim the glory of God. We call Pentecost Sunday the "birthday of the church." In many ways, the church is still being born. Only when we all know the peace Jesus offered in today's Gospel will we really know the fullness of the Holy Spirit. When we look around us in the church we should see everyone. But we don t. Not yet. What is holding us back from fully embracing the one Body of Christ? When will we see our differences as manifestations of the same Holy Spirit? (c) J. S. Paluch Co.
