RESURRECTION CROSS & BUTTERFLY RELEASE Participate in a Trinity Easter tradition and bring fresh flowers and greenery from your yard to decorate the living cross on the front lawn of the church on Easter morning before worship. During the Sunday School hour, elementary children and their Sunday School classes will release butterflies on the front lawn near the Resurrection Cross. This is also a Trinity Easter tradition that signifies and celebrates new life.

They loved to hunt Easter eggs. In fact, once was not enough. They wanted to do it over and over again. And so, they would take turns hiding and finding and they would invite others to join in. When it was Meredith s turn, she would always hide the eggs in rather obvious places, out in the open, mostly in full view. And then when we would come out and start looking, she would help us find them, even though it was not hard. She would point and shout out, Look over there. Sometimes she would just stand over an egg and point at it. We tried to explain to her that the point was to hide the eggs so the people would have to look for them under rocks and leaves and in bushes. But for her, the real joy was not hiding something in hard places so it couldn t be found, the joy was in the finding. She couldn t wait for that moment of discovery. And maybe that is right. Easter is about finding, not hiding. On Good Friday, when the world had done its worst, we tried to hide it away in a tomb with a stone rolled against the door, keeping our secret in the dark. It s what we do with those things of which we are not proud. Adam and Eve hid themselves in the Garden. We even try to hide from ourselves. Sometimes our hopes get buried by our failures. Our joy is covered in the darkness of fear. Finally death has its say. It all seems to end in darkness. In John s Gospel, it says that when the women approached the tomb on Easter morning, it was still dark. They had come only to mourn. Imagine their surprise when the stone had been rolled from the door and the tomb was empty. That evening the disciples were gathered behind locked doors when Jesus came and stood among them. They were hiding when Jesus found them. It is what he always did find people who were lost, alone, fearful, sick. It is what he talked about lost sons, lost coins, lost sheep. There is more joy in heaven over the one that is found, than all who have no need of repentance. 8:30, 9:45 & 11:00 AM wesley hall, Rev. 4 panama mission trips, JUNE & july 2014 The DEADLINE to register is April 19! We invite you to be a part of our covenant with Panama. Call or Laura McCain for tickets at or lamccain@bellsouth.net - or visit EMERGENCY RESPONSE TEAM TRAINING - May 10 & 17 Residents of North Alabama are no strangers to natural disasters, having weathered severe damage from tornadoes in recent years. When natural disasters strike, United Methodists jump into action. Trinity maintains a trailer with materials and tools so that we may participate in these efforts. The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) orchestrates response efforts and provides training for volunteers. To enter a disaster area, volunteers are required to have a current certification with Early Response Team training. If you are willing to be contacted as an early responder when natural disasters strike, please plan to attend the following training in May: - For first time certification: Saturday, May 10 and Saturday, May 17 from 8 AM -12 Noon each week. - For those needing the re-certification course (certification must be renewed every 4 years): Saturday, May 17 from 8 AM -12 Noon. Are you a friend or a loved one of someone who struggles with faith as she longs for a child? If your answer to any of these questions is yes, we invite you to join us. Hannah s Friends is a group of women who struggle with issues of infertility, just as Hannah did in the Bible. Our small group shares fellowship, prayer and Bible study as we try to discern the unique path that God has for each of us. 5 student ministry weekly update Here is what is happening at Element this week: EASTER Youth Led Sunrise Service Our high school seniors plan and lead the Easter Sunrise service. We hope that you and your family will join us for this very special service at Homewood Park (Edgewood) from 6:30-7:30 AM (Rain: Wesley Hall). You are also invited to the breakfast following the service in the Fellowship Hall. food & fellowship No Element on Sunday Night, 4/20 Element Cafe will be this Tuesday & Thursday after school from 3-5:30 PM. Ray is a well-known pianist, vocalist and educator, now serving as Director of Student Jazz Programs for the Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame, director of the Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame All-Stars and President and CEO of Ray Reach Music and Magic City Music Productions. He is noted for his versatility and mastery of many diverse styles. In addition, he is an accomplished guitarist, arranger, composer, conductor and music producer. APril 30 - Hallelujah Trail Rescheduled This day trip will include a guided tour of historic St. John s Episcopal Church in Decatur, lunch at Bob Gibson s BBQ, a visit to the Hartselle Tabernacle and Camp Ground followed by a stop at an Amish Bakery. We will also visit the quaint Pine Torch Church, nestled in the Bankhead National Forest. Our last stop on this trip will be at the Clarksdale (Legg) Covered bridge which spans Crooked Creek in near the community of Bethel. Suggested donation for gas is $10. Resurrection Rolls A fun and meaningful Easter activity for you and your kids! Ingredients: - One can of crescent roll dough - 8 large marshmallows (or one for each roll you ll be making) - Melted butter - Cinnamon sugar - Bible or Easter storybook Assemble rolls and read the story: 1.) Read John 19 while the oven is pre-heating according to the package directions. If you re really on top of things, spend the week before reading John with your kids. 2.) Unroll the crescent rolls. Explain that this is like the cloth they wrapped Jesus in. 3.) Give your child a marshmallow and explain that it represents Jesus all white and pure because He was without sin. 4.) Roll the marshmallows in the melted butter. This symbolizes the embalming oils. 5.) Roll the marshmallows in the cinnamon sugar. This is like the spices used to prepare his body for burial. 6.) Wrap the marshmallow in the crescent roll cloth, pinching the dough together securely. Don t worry about the shape so much, they ll taste the same no matter how you roll or bundle them. This represents how they would have wrapped Jesus body. 7.) Put the rolls in the oven (symbolizing the tomb) and bake for the amount of time specified on the package. 8.) While the rolls are baking, read John 20: ) Open the tomb and remove the rolls. When they re cool enough to handle, break one open and discover what happened to the marshmallow. Jesus is risen!
