With most of Trinity s pastoral staff away on a trip to the Holy Land, I feel like we should start something new. (Ha!) I haven t been here very long, so you don t have much of a reason to trust me, but I have a scripture to encourage us in our uncertainty. In Matthew 25 there is a judgment scene where the King separates all the nations into the sheep to his right and the goats to his left. Sheep go on up to the joy of their master and the goats apparently go to munch on kudzu for eternity. The difference? Simply doing (or not doing) these tasks found in verses 35-36: for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me. The needs are so simple we wonder why they can t be addressed: hunger, thirst, isolation, exposure, sickness, imprisonment. In West Homewood I know some people who are excited. They aren t just excited about new paint or road signs or coffee. These folks are excited that what God is doing in West Homewood will enable us to do the tasks called for in Matthew 25. The church is at its best when it is meeting the needs of the communities Jesus planted us in. Way of the Cross Paintings YOUNG ADULT STUDY Are you in your 20 s? Are you out of college? Are you not married? If so...you re invited to join us for dinner and study Who is This Man? at the home of Mark & Lisa Elliott. The study will be held each Tuesday night during Lent and will run until Easter. Dinner is free and is served at 6:30 PM with the study following. For more info about either study opportunity, please contact Lisa Elliott at lelliott@trinitybirmingham.com or call & devotional Trinity s Way of the Cross is a series of unique paintings, created by Trinity artists, that portray Jesus journey to the cross. These paintings provide a way to enter into His journey in an act of devotion and worship. During the Lenten season, the Way of the Cross paintings hang in the Sanctuary. Devotional guides may be found in baskets at the Sanctuary entrance doors. Guides are available for both adults and children and may be used by individuals or groups. Through this devotional practice, we join with Christ s journey for us. Palm Cross Workshop & palm processional SATURDAY, MARCH 19, 9:00 AM - 12 Noon Fellowship Hall. Bring your scissors and a hand towel and help make over 2,000 Palm Crosses that will be used in the Palm Sunday services. All are welcome; all skills and ages are needed. PALM SUNDAY, MARCH 20 PROCESSIONAL Children may participate in the Palm Procession by waving palm branches and placing them on the altar at the beginning of all 8:45 & 11:00 AM worship services. Holy Communion during Lent is offered following all Sunday traditional worship services in the Sanctuary at 9:45 AM and 12:00 PM. Communion will also be offered throughout Lent during the Contact services at 8:45 AM and 11:00 AM in Wesley Hall. 3

Stephen is a personal trainer and Angela is a teacher at Vestavia Hills High School. They have three daughters, Sophia, Elise and Vivian. Drew works for McKinney Capital and Julie is a nurse practitioner at UAB Hospital. Rob and Elizabeth Sellers 1005 Bienville Court, Birmingham The Sellers family joined Trinity by transfer from another United Methodist Church. Rob is a pediatrician at Children s Hospital. They have a daughter, Mary Margaret. 6 Opportunities to Serve & Give 6 This Lenten season, we strive to remember that Jesus calls us all Beloved. May we be a generous people, propelled by this love to live in service and sacrifice. Here are just a few ways you can live out your belovedness during the Holy Days of Lent. lenten OFFERING During this season of spiritual evaluation, we are given the opportunity to join God s work to bring resurrection hope to the least of these in the Greater Birmingham Area with our special Lenten offering. You may deliver your check to the office or drop your check in the offering plate at any time during Lent. Please mark your check Lenten Offering. lenten BOOK DRIVE We will be collecting books for adults and children who live in the West End. Accepted books include: best sellers (fiction, non-fiction, mystery, science fiction, how-to, cookbooks), Bibles and other inspirational books, and clean copies of classics. The following children s books are needed: new or in good condition (1-6 reading level) with engaging images. Multiple copies (5-6) of the same book is a plus! Drop off books in the 2nd floor commons area from 2/17 to 3/27. lenten USED BIKE DRIVE This special drive will support East Lake UMC. We will be accepting gently used bicycles and helmets. These bikes will be given to children and teens in the East Lake community. Please do not purchase new bicycles or helmets. If you have a truck, we would love your assistance in taking these bikes to East Lake! Drop off at West Homewood Oakmont Campus from 2/17 to 3/13. poverty simulation FEB. 21 On Sunday February 21, we will join with Canterbury and Vestavia Hills UMC and attend the Alabama Possible Poverty Simulation. It will take place at Avondale Samaritan Place. Limited spots available. urban ministry event FEB. 24 On Wednesday, February 24 from 11-12:30 pm, we will attend the Urban Ministry client luncheon/social at Avondale Samaritan Place. The theme will be God is Love.
