The point is to be the first to call another member of the family on Christmas morning and shout Christmas Gift! into the phone before the other person does. I don t know who has succeeded in scoring the most points through the years but I suspect it is Dawn. You don t really win anything except the excitement/joy of perhaps reminding each other of the GIFT of the season in Christ and in each other. James 1:17 declares that Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights The Psalmist reminds us that the earth is the Lord s and all that is in it, the world and those who live in it... John 3:16 tells us that God so loved the world that he gave his only Son. In so many ways, God shouts Christmas Gift! to us. God shares out of the abundance of His grace, and all that we are and all that we have comes from this generous God. The year s stewardship theme is #everygift every gift counts! During October, we invite you to be on the lookout for God s gifts. Where do you see God at work in the church? Where do you see Christ-like generosity around you? We want to build a social media scrapbook around these holy moments. Tag your posts on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram with #everygift as a way of sharing stories of generosity with other Trinity folks. Throughout the month, we will be sharing these stories online, as well as in our print and publications. The campaign will culminate on Sunday, October 26, with Celebration Sunday the day on which we celebrate God s gifts to us as we return our gifts to God, and we want you there! We have a great day planned with a congregation-wide lunch catered by Full Moon Barbecue, provided through the generosity of some of our members. Let s join together in prayer over these next few weeks for a spirit of gratitude, vision, and generosity to permeate the hearts and minds of our church family. It s often been said that you cannot out-give God, and one of the greatest privileges we share as disciples of Christ is to multiply God s blessings as we share those blessings with others. This whole month will be a call to action with things like Magic City Miracle, Destination Funknown, Deuces Live with Bob Goff, author of the famous book Love Does, Sunday Night Live and Pumpkinfest. This is going to be an amazing month of Sunday Nights. I hope that you and your student will find multiple ways to get plugged in. For more information about this month check out DESTINATION FUNKNOWN, 10/5 - This Sunday night, October 5 from 6-8 PM is our Destination Funknown for our Love Does series. Adult Drivers Are Needed! Students will be breaking into small groups and leaving so the more drivers the better. If you are willing to drive this Sunday, please Tori ttenniswood@trinitybirmingham.com or sign up online at elementvolunteers. This will be a night that you and your student will talk about for years and years, so do not miss this night. Students need to bring $5 for dinner and activity. SOS REGISTRATION IS OPEN - It is already that time of year to reserve your student s spot for SOS. Go ahead and mark your calendars for July 5-11 and register your spot at As always, there is limited space on this mission trip so please sign up today! ELEMENTOR KICKBALL PARTY, 10/5 - This Sunday afternoon Oct. 5 from 1-3 PM, we are having a kickball party to kickoff the Elementor year. Students are engouraged to attend to meet their bigs and littles, eat hamburgers and hotdogs and enjoy a fun game of kickball. Cooking will begin at 12:30 PM at Field #2 of the West Homewood Park. ELEMENT CAFÉ MEETS THIS WEEK - Element Cafe is open on Tuesday and Thursday from 3-5:30 PM. This is a wonderful alternative to going home and being bored. Come hang out with us, grab a snack, play some games and hang out with our staff and friends. All candy, chips and drinks are only 50 cents! We will be selling popcorn during the month of October with 7 different seasonings to choose from. Element Cafe is always a fun time. We hope your student will join us this week! PRAYER BREAKFAST MEETS TUESDAY MORNINGS - 6:30 AM in the Youth Center. All middle school and high school students are invited. Prayer Breakfast is the perfect way to start a new day. The cost is $3 for breakfast and middle school students will walk to HMS following the breakfast. 6 PACESETTERS OCTOBER 2 - SENIOR ADULT BALL All Seniors are invited to dance the night away at the annual ball. It will be held on Thursday, October 2 from 5-7 PM in the Fellowship Hall. Music will be provided by the Chuck King band. The ball is hosted by Trinity s youth. Questions? Contact Amy Lewis at OCTOBER 15 - DAY TRIP TO HUNTSVILLE There should be some fall color in North Alabama, as we extend our Hallelujah Trail experience to include Historic Churches of Huntsville. Our guided tour * will include the Twickenham Historic District and Old Town Historic District, where we will view many antebellum homes. We will learn about the background of some of the more interesting homes. The Historic Church Tour includes: First Presbyterian Church, Episcopal Church of the Nativity, Methodist-Episcopal Church, Temple B nai Shalom. Our lunch stop will be at one of the wonderful local restaurants. If time permits, we will stop in a quirky shopping venue known as Harrison Brothers Hardware Store. (*Our tour guide, Jacque Reeves of Avalon Tours, is the author of 12 books on local history and true crime. Jacque is the president of the Huntsville-Madison County Historical Society, and she is the cofounder of Huntsville Ghost Walk, Madison Ghost Walk, and Mischief and Mayhem Tours. She is past editor of Tennessee Valley Genealogical Society s Valley Leaves and Huntsville/Madison County s Historical Review. She is Associate Editor of Old Tennessee Valley Magazine.) Deluxe Motorcoach to Huntsville. Leave from Trinity at 8:00 AM. DECEMBER CALLOWAY GARDENS CHRISTMAS TOUR Make plans to join us for a Christmas trip to Callaway Gardens and Warm Springs, GA. It includes a daytime tour of the Gardens, Fantasy in Lights, buffet dinner and breakfast at Mountain Creek Inn, and admission to Little White House in Warm Springs. Our guided tour of beautiful Calloway Gardens includes the Ida Cason Calloway Memorial Chapel, the Cecil B. Day Butterfly Center, and the Virginia Hand Calloway Discovery Center. That evening we will enjoy eight million lights in the beautiful Christmas displays of Fantasy in Lights. The second day of our tour we will visit The Little White House at Warm Springs, built by Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1932 while he was still governor of NY. Here he found the strength to resume his political career and a positive outlet for his own personal struggle with polio through the creation of the Warm Springs Foundation. Roosevelt returned to use the therapeutic waters at Warm Springs every year, except 1942, from his first visit in 1924 until his death there in We will visit his home and museum.
