Worship Services June 11, :30 and 11 a.m. 6:30 p.m.
Welcome To Our Guests, We especially welcome you today! More information about our church is available on our website at firstpresaugusta.org. You can also visit our welcome desk in the Welcome Center, located directly behind the sanctuary. Spiritual Care If you would like to speak to someone about what it means to know Jesus Christ or you have any spiritual need or question, please use one of the prayer cards in the pew rack to contact one of our pastors. Our church elders are also available to speak with you. An Elder and his wife will be standing next to the pastor following the service to talk or pray with you. Children s Check-in We are committed to the highest level of protection possible for the children placed in our care on Sundays and at all church events. For this reason, we require parents of newborns through fifth grade children to check in their children before they go to the nursery, Sunday School, Catechism, Children s Church or any other children s activity. Kiosks are available in the Narthex and in the Children s Lobby. The process is quick and easy, and volunteers are available to assist you. Children s Worship We offer a specially designed program for children in pre-k through fourth grade during the morning services. Leaders will escort children from the sanctuary to their classrooms during the hymn of preparation. Parents are welcome to accompany them to observe where to pick them up after the service. Children in pre-k through second grade remain in their classrooms until they are picked up by a parent. Nursery Nurseries are provided for infants and toddlers during the worship services and Sunday School. We provide a Mother/Infant Room (room 160) located in the Ebenezer Building behind the sanctuary, and the Geneva Room is designated as a cry room for parents with fussy children. Both rooms are equipped with live video feed of the worship services. Ushers are available to direct you. Additional Seating Additional seating for morning and evening worship services is available each week in St. Andrew s Hall. Flowers The sanctuary flowers are given today to the glory of God. As stewards of God s resources, we try not to print an excess of bulletins. We invite you to bring this bulletin with you when you return for the evening service.
The Morning Services Theme: Obedience by Grace The Prelude Fugue... William Selby Pam Dutch, guest organist *Welcome and Announcements... Dr. Mike Phillips The Meditation Behold the Lamb of God...Craig Courtney Colin Fuller, solo Behold the Lamb of God, the Lamb for sinners slain; A perfect sacrifice for all, he died, but lives again. Behold the Lamb of God, behold his hands, his side. The Son of God, the Sinless Lamb, for me was crucified. He lives let Heaven rejoice, and earth her honors bring To him, the everlasting God, the great, eternal King. O strike your harps of gold, ye ransomed host above; Praise him who bought you with his blood, and saved you by his love. Words: Fanny Crosby Music: Craig Courtney 1997 Beckenhorst Press The Call to Worship... Isaiah 55:1-6 Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; And you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost. Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labor on what does not satisfy? Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good, And your soul will delight in the richest of fare. Give ear and come to me; hear me, that your soul may live. Seek the Lord while he may be found; call on him while he is near. The Lord be with you. And with your spirit. Let us worship God! * Ushers may seat worshipers at this time. Indicates the congregation standing. 3
* The Hymn of Praise Hallelujah, Praise Jehovah, O My Soul... Ripley (Verses 1, 2, 4) Psalm 146 The Psalter, 1912 Gregorian Chant Arranged by Lowell Mason,
The Invocation (Please lift hands) The Confession of Faith... The Apostles Creed I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended into hell.* The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic** church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. *suffered separation from God **universal The New Testament Lesson...1 John 5:1-5 page 1903 in the pew Bible The Response The grass withers and the flowers fall, But the Word of our God stands forever. The Personal Confession of Sin Indicates the congregation standing. Please kneel if able to do so. 5
The Corporate Confession of Sin Great and glorious God, who knows and judges the secrets of every human heart; we do acknowledge and confess that we have followed the path of Adam in rebelling against your commandments. We have turned from your ways and from your blessed presence, and have reaped the misery of disobeying you, the very author of life. None of us is righteous, no not one; we lack understanding, we fail to seek God; we use our tongues to deceive, and our mouths are full of cursing and bitterness. We are vengeful, unkind and unjust; our carelessness and sin have hurt our brothers and sisters. We do not practice the way of peace; we lack the fear of God. We appeal to you and your great mercy made manifest in Jesus Christ, your obedient Son, that you would forgive our sins for his sake. Just as Christ was raised from the dead by your glory, so raise our dead hearts, that we may walk in newness of life. Amen. The Assurance of Pardoning Grace...Isaiah 40:1-2 Comfort, comfort my people, says your God. Speak tenderly to Jerusalem, and cry to her that her warfare is ended, that her iniquity is pardoned, that she has received from the Lord s hand double for all her sins. The Pastoral Prayer and The Lord s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen. 6
**The Offering (Please take a moment to sign the attendance register.) The Offertory Lord of the Small...Dan Forrest Colin Fuller, solo Praise to the Lord of the small, broken things, Who sees the poor sparrow that cannot take wing, Who loves the lame child, and the wretch in the street, Who comforts their sorrows and washes their feet. Praise to the Lord of the frail and the ill, Who heals their afflictions or carries them till They leave this tired frame and to paradise fly, To never be sick and never to die. Praise him all ye who yet live, Who ve been given so much and can so little give, Our frail, lisping praise God will never despise: He sees his dear children through mercy-filled eyes. Words: Johanna Anderson Music: Dan Forrest 2015 Beckenhorst Press * The Peace The peace of the Lord be with you always. And also with you. Effective calling is the work of God s Spirit, who convinces us that we are sinful and miserable, who enlightens our minds in the knowledge of Christ, and who renews our wills. This is how he persuades and makes us able to receive Jesus Christ, who is freely offered to us in the gospel. Call to Worship and Invocation...Josh Preston Pastoral Intern 11
