Worship Services June 10, :30 and 11 a.m. 6:30 p.m.
Welcome We are very glad to have you worshiping our gracious God with us today. To Our Guests, We especially welcome you today! More information about our church is available on our website at firstpresaugusta.org. You can also visit our welcome desk in the Welcome Center, located directly behind the sanctuary. Spiritual Care If you would like to speak to someone about what it means to know Jesus Christ or you have any spiritual need or question, please use one of the prayer cards in the pew rack to contact one of our pastors. Our church elders are also available to speak with you. An elder and his wife will be standing next to the pastor following the service to talk or pray with you. Children s Check-in We are committed to the highest level of protection possible for the children placed in our care on Sundays and at all church events. For this reason, we require parents of newborns through fifth grade children to check in their children before they go to the nursery, Sunday School, Catechism, Children s Church or any other children s activity. Kiosks are available in the Narthex and in the Children s Lobby. The process is quick and easy, and volunteers are available to assist you. Children s Worship We offer a specially designed program for children in pre-k through fourth grade during the morning services. Leaders will escort children from the sanctuary to their classrooms during the hymn of preparation. Parents are welcome to accompany them to observe where to pick them up after the service. Children in pre-k through second grade remain in their classrooms until they are picked up by a parent. Nursery Nurseries are provided for infants and toddlers during the worship services and Sunday School. We provide a Mother/Infant Room (#160) located in the Ebenezer Building behind the sanctuary. The Telfair Room (#100) is designated as the Family Room. It is a great place for parents with restless children to be able to listen to the sermon and also train our youngest worshipers how to participate in the services. Both rooms are equipped with live video feed of the worship services. Ushers are available to direct you. Additional Seating Please see ushers for overflow seating. Flowers The sanctuary flowers are given today to the glory of God in honor of the 60th wedding anniversary of Mimi and Sim Fulcher and God s faithfulness in 60 years of marriage. As stewards of God s resources, we try not to print an excess of bulletins. We invite you to bring this bulletin with you when you return for the evening service.
The Morning Services Living in Grace The Prelude O God Beyond All Praising... Thaxted *Welcome and Announcements...Rev. Mike Hearon The Meditation Bless the Lord, O My Soul... Redman Bless the Lord, oh my soul, Worship his holy name. Sing like never before, Oh my soul; I ll worship your holy name. The sun comes up, It s a new day dawning, It s time to sing your song again. Whatever may pass And whatever lies before me, Let me be singing When the evening comes. Words and Music: Jonas Myrin and Matt Redman 2011 Jeremy Wells, solo You re rich in love And you re slow to anger. Your name is great, And your heart is kind. For all your goodness I will keep on singing Ten thousand reasons For my heart to find. The Call to Worship... fromtitus 3:4-7 The kindness and love of God our Savior has appeared! He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, So that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life. The Lord be with you. And with your spirit. Let us worship God! * Ushers may seat worshipers at this time. Indicates the congregation standing. 3
* The Hymn of Praise A Mighty Fortress Is Our God...Ein Feste Berg (All Verses) Martin Luther, 1529 Based on Psalm 46 4
The Invocation (Please lift hands) The Confession of Faith... The Apostles Creed I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended into hell.* The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic** church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. *suffered separation from God **universal *Gloria Patri... Mineke Indicates the congregation standing. Please kneel if able to do so. 5
The Personal Confession of Sin The Corporate Confession of Sin Holy Jesus, Mighty Savior, Merciful King, Forgive my sins. Forgive the sins I remember and the sins I have forgotten. Forgive my many failures in the face of temptation and the times I have been stubborn in the face of correction. Forgive the times I have been proud of my own achievements and the times I have failed to boast in your works. Forgive the harsh judgments I have made of others and the leniency I have shown myself. Forgive the lies I have told to others and the truths I have avoided. Forgive me the pain I have caused others and the indulgence I have shown myself. Jesus, have mercy on me and make me whole. Help me rest in your grace. Amen. The Assurance of Pardoning Grace...Isaiah 55:6-7 Seek the Lord while he may be found; call on him while he is near. Let the wicked forsake his way and the evil man his thoughts. Let him turn to the Lord, and he will have mercy on him, and to our God, for he will freely pardon. The Pastoral Prayer and The Lord s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen. 6
**The Offering (Please take a moment to sign the attendance register.) The Offertory How Great Thou Art...Forrest Jeremy Wells, solo O Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder Consider all the world thy hands hath made! I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder, Thy pow r throughout the universe displayed. Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to thee, How great thou art! How great thou art! When through the woods and forest glades I wander and hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees; When I look down from lofty mountain grandeur and hear the brook, and feel the gentle breeze, And when I think that God, his Son not sparing, Sent him to die, I scarce can take it in; That on the Cross, my burden gladly bearing, He bled and died, to take away my sin. When Christ shall come with shout of acclamation and take me home, what joy shall fill my heart! Then I shall bow in humble adoration, And there proclaim, My God, how great thou art! 2015 Swedish Folk Song Adapted: Stuart K. Hine Arranged: Dan Forrest * The Peace The peace of the Lord be with you always. And also with you. Children in pre-k through fourth grade exit for Catechism classes at this time. **Online giving is available at firstpresaugusta.org. 7

Toplady Rock of Ages, cleft for me, let me hide myself in thee let the water and the blood, from thy wounded side which flowed, be of sin the double cure; save from wrath and make me pure Not the labors of my hands can fulfill thy law s demands; could my zeal no respite know, could my tears forever flow, these for sin could not atone; thou must save, and thou alone Nothing in my hand I bring, simply to the cross I cling; naked, come to thee for dress; helpless, look to thee for grace; foul, I to the fountain fly; Wash me, Savior, or I die Words: Thomas Hastings Music: Augustas Toplady Public Domain 14

The Lord s Supper Rev. John Barrett and Rev. Mike Hearon The Bread Sweet Hour of Prayer Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer! that calls me from a world of care, and bids me at my Father s throne make all my wants and wishes known. In seasons of distress and grief, my soul has often found relief, and oft escaped the tempter s snare by thy return, sweet hour of prayer! Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer! thy wings shall my petition bear to him whose truth and faithfulness engage the waiting soul to bless. And since he bids me seek his face, believe his word, and trust his grace, I ll cast on him my every care, and wait for thee, sweet hour of prayer! Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer! the joys I feel, the bliss I share of those whose anxious spirits burn with strong desires for thy return! With such I hasten to the place where God my Savior shows his face, and gladly take my station there, and wait for thee, sweet hour of prayer! The Cup It Is Well With My Soul When peace, like a river, attendeth my way, when sorrows like sea billows roll; whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say, It is well, it is well with my soul. O Lord, haste the day when the faith shall be sight, the clouds be rolled back as a scroll, the trump shall resound and the Lord shall descend; Even so it is well with my soul. It is well with my soul; it is well, it is well with my soul. Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come, let this blest assurance control, that Christ has regarded my helpless estate, and has shed his own blood for my soul. My sin O the bliss of this glorious thought! my sin, not in part, but the whole, is nailed to the cross and I bear it no more; praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul! The Prayer of Great Thanksgiving 17
