Reformation Sunday Worship Services October 28, :30 and 11 a.m. 6:30 p.m.

Welcome We are very glad to have you worshiping our gracious God with us today. To Our Guests, We especially welcome you today! More information about our church is available on our website at firstpresaugusta.org. You can also visit our welcome desk in the Welcome Center, located directly behind the sanctuary. Spiritual Care If you would like to speak to someone about what it means to know Jesus Christ or you have any spiritual need or question, please use one of the prayer cards in the pew rack to contact our pastors. Our church elders are also available to speak with you. An elder and his wife will be standing next to the pastor following the service to talk or pray with you. Children s Check-in We are committed to the highest level of protection possible for the children placed in our care on Sundays and at all church events. For this reason, we require parents of newborns through fifth grade children to check in their children before they go to the nursery, Sunday School, Catechism, Children s Church, or any other children s activity. Kiosks are available in the Narthex and in the Children s Lobby. The process is quick and easy, and volunteers are available to assist you. Children s Worship We offer a specially designed program for children in pre-k through fourth grade during the morning services. Leaders will escort children from the sanctuary to their classrooms during the hymn of preparation. Parents are welcome to accompany them to observe where to pick them up after the service. Children in pre-k through second grade remain in their classrooms until they are picked up by a parent. Nursery Nurseries are provided for infants and toddlers during the worship services and Sunday School. We provide a Mother/Infant Room (#160) located in the Ebenezer Building behind the sanctuary. The Telfair Room (#100) is designated as the Family Room. It is a great place for parents with restless children to be able to listen to the sermon and also train our youngest worshipers how to participate in the services. Both rooms are equipped with live video feed of the worship services. Ushers are available to direct you. Additional Seating Please see ushers for overflow seating. Flowers The sanctuary flowers are given today to the glory of God by Tricia and Robert Pollard and Sara and Andreas Lazari in honor of the children being baptized this morning, including their beloved grandson, George Andrew Lazari Jr. For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations. Psalm 100:5 As stewards of God s resources, we try not to print an excess of bulletins. We invite you to bring this bulletin with you when you return for the evening service.

Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, Let us draw near to God with sincere hearts in full assurance of faith. The Lord be with you. And with your spirit. Let us worship God! * Ushers may seat worshipers at this time. Indicates the congregation standing. 3

* The Hymn of Praise A Mighty Fortress Is Our God...Rutter (Sung by Choir and Congregation) A mighty fortress is our God, A bulwark never failing; Our helper he amid the flood Of mortal ills prevailing. For still our ancient foe Doth seek to work us woe; His craft and power are great; And armed with cruel hate, On earth is not his equal. (Choir Only) Did we in our own strength confide, Our striving would be losing; Were not the right man on our side, The man of God s own choosing. Dost ask who that may be? Christ Jesus it is he, Lord Sabaoth his name, From age to age the same, And he must win the battle. (Choir and Congregation) And though this world, with devils filled, Should threaten to undo us, We will not fear, for God hath willed His truth to triumph through us. The prince of darkness grim, We tremble not for him; His rage we can endure, For lo! his doom is sure; One little word shall fell him. That Word above all earthly pow rs, No thanks to them, abideth; The Spirit and the gifts are ours Through him who with us sideth. Let goods and kindred go, This mortal life also; The body they may kill: God s truth abideth still; His kingdom is forever. Words and melody: Martin Luther Harmonies: J.S. Bach Translated: F. H. Hodge Arranged:John Rutter 2000 Collegium Music Publications 4

The Personal Confession of Sin The Corporate Confession of Sin Father in Heaven, you are the covenant keeping God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and you are our God, too. Although we acknowledge your great faithfulness to us and to all the saints who have gone before us, we admit that we are often faithless. We doubt your wisdom, power, goodness, and love. We confess to you that although we are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses, we are weak-hearted and cowardly. We have not taken up our cross to follow you, but instead have chosen the way of ease, comfort, and security. According to your mercy, forgive our cold, apathetic, selfish hearts. Pour out your grace upon us that we might live lives worthy of the calling we have received. Teach us the joy of losing our lives for your gospel and work in us that apostolic mind that counts it a joy to suffer for your Name. Preserve us by your grace that we might endure to the end and join the heavenly throng in the eternal worship and enjoyment of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen. The Assurance of Pardoning Grace... Romans 4:25-5:2 Jesus was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification. Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. The Pastoral Prayer and The Lord s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen. Indicates the congregation standing. Please kneel if able to do so. 6

**The Offering The Offertory Now Thank We All Our God...arr. Rutter Now thank we all our God With heart and hands and voices Who wondrous things hath done In whom his world rejoices Who from our mother s arms Hath blessed us on our way With countless gifts of love And still is ours today O may this bounteous God Through all our life be near us With ever joyful hearts And blessed peace to cheer us And keep us in his grace And guide us when perplexed And free us from all ills In this world and the next All praise and thanks to God The Father now be given The Son, and him who reigns With them in highest heaven The One eternal God Whom heaven and earth adore For thus it was, is now And shall be evermore.
