1 News from the CAL-SW Saints February 22, 2019 Dear Southwest Family, Here we are at the end of winter and spring is right around the corner. Please read your teacher's newsletter each week. This ATA also has much of the same information, but please read carefully and note what is around the corner. A memory and hopefully some encouragement to you, dear parents. Seasons always make me think of how they are symbolic of our life stages: birth, growth, maturity, and completion. I remember one evening in January Dad was battling cancer and we did not know what each day would hold. I remember driving home after midnight one evening with Mom and it was snowing. I was praying silently to God. It was so hard to watch Dad physically become weaker, smaller, and not the strong man I remember. As I was praying, I remember God impressing on my heart that his spring was coming. He was in his final months here on earth. My dad trusted in the Lord. We all knew that. That same year on the day before Easter Dad was released once again from the hospital. I went into my parents bedroom and sat with him. He told me he wanted to go home. Dad also suffered from dementia, and so I told him he was home, not in the hospital. He looked at me and said, "No, I want to go home with Jesus. I want you to pray for that now." Oh my, can I just say that washed over me in many ways! First, he knew where he wanted to be. Second, I had never prayed out loud in front of my dad. He always led the family in prayer. Finally, I didn t know if I could pray what he requested. God is so good! That prior summer, I had been in a Bible study that challenged us to memorize Psalm 139. The Holy Spirit brought those truths and promises of God to my mind, mouth, and heart. I still remember thanking God for bringing His word to light, mind, and to this moment. My prayer was similar to this, "Father, I thank you that you are our Father. Thank you for making James William Whitehouse my dad. You know him best. You made him, and now he would like to come home. You have ordained his days, so when You are ready to bring home to Your presence, he is ready. We are so thankful you never leave us and there is nowhere we can go from your presence. So we release Dad to You, Father. Thank you for giving him to us. Thank you for letting him fight this battle of cancer, and now he is ready for his eternal healing. Amen." continued in next column Dad didn't go home that day or week it was 2 months later. That Easter was so different. God reminded me how invaluable His written word (the Bible) and His Living Word (Jesus) were to me in this season. There were days I was so tired, weak, worn, sleepless, and I didn't always know what to say to Mom or my siblings. However, God was there every single moment. Verses 17 and 18 in Psalm 139 promises His children, "How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them! Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand, When I awake, I am still with you!" I miss my earthly father, but he is wide awake in God's presence. How thankful I am that he is there. My hope rests in a reunion one day, but oh to see God face to face! That will be spring, dear one! That will be light, beauty, peace, love, and every good and perfect gift we can imagine! So parents, rest in His word. I challenge you to be in it, walk it, talk it, and model what a child of God lives when in faithful fellowship with Him. Spring is coming! Serving HIM, Mrs. Carson PTO MOTHER/SON NIGHT OF FUN Monday, March 25 at Malibu Jack s Sycamore Station Place All CAL-SW moms and sons are invited to join us at Malibu Jack s on Monday, March 25 from 6:15 PM to 8:30 PM. Dinner will be served at 6:15 PM and play time will be from 7:00-8:30 PM. Fliers will be sent home next week. Reservation forms and payments need to be returned by March 11. The cost will be $15 per person and includes unlimited mini-golf, gokarts, and laser tag.

2 CHANGE FOR CHRIST WEEK During Change for Christ Week (March 18-22), students and staff will get to participate in themed dress days for a donation of $1 per day. All of the funds that we raise will go towards the Jackson family as they serve God as missionaries in Southeast Asia. Mrs. Jackson is one of our former teachers! We have had Change for Christ Week for the last seven years to give to the work of the Jackson family and our students and families have given over $17,000 towards their ministry! All dress needs to be appropriate. Mickey Mouse Monday on March 18 (wear your favorite Disney shirt/outfit) Twinsies Tuesday on March 19 (dress like someone else friend, teacher, famous person) Wacky Wednesday on March 20 (crazy hair and crazy clothes) Throwback Thursday on March 21 (dress for another decade) Feel at Home Friday on March 22 (pajamas, sweats, comfy clothes) MATH OLYMPICS AND MATH MADNESS ACSI Math Olympics is Tuesday, March 5. Students will take a series of tests in computation and reasoning skills. Please pray for the following students as they compete for our school: Matthew Morgan, Olivia Burnett, Brayden Vititoe, Alex Campbell, Bella Crowe, Ezra Vann, Brady Carson, Olivia Pratt, Perry Byers, Allie Glover, Macie Starnes, Zion Cox, Kaleb Clark, Olivia Alberhasky, Emma Ross, Kelton Pratt, Jaxon Sedoris, Kate Hunter, Gary Haley, Ashleigh Dowell, Jonah Whitehead, Anabel Darrull, Devin Killion, Landon Stillwell, Nicholas Clark, Mason Miles, Matthew Carter, Matthew Kelly, Caroline Evans, Evan Blandford, Noah Burnett, Riley Hall, Raegan Glover, Rachael Herndon, and Raegan Hodge. The middle school students will be competing in the 11th Annual Math Madness Competition in our gym on Friday, March 8. Students will be teaming up with other grade levels in middle school to answer math problems and shoot basketball. The math scores will be added to the basketball scores and all teams are placed into a sweet 16 bracket. Teams continue in the competition until only one team is left standing. Watch for the winners' names in the next ATA. SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR MARCH 4-8 YEARBOOK ORDERS Last year, most of our students purchased a yearbook and came to the end-of-the-year signing parties. We all had a great time reminiscing about the year, eating yummy treats and signing each other s yearbooks. Now is the time to ensure you get to be a part of the fun at this year s yearbook signing party! Don t wait because we sold out last year! To buy a yearbook, simply go to and choose Buy a Yearbook. Then enter Christian Academy of Louisville Southwest and follow the remaining prompts to order. The cost is $32.25 and is paid online. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Hancher at ahancher@caschools.us. DEVELOPMENT NEWS The 2019 Gala is coming soon - do you have your tickets? The event includes a live and silent auction and features speaker Bob Goff. Please remember the Gala raises money for ALL of our campuses and this year will help with capital campaign needs that we have at each campus. The dollars we raise come back to support projects here at Southwest. We are looking forward to seeing everyone on Friday, March 1 at 6:30 PM at the Omni Louisville Hotel. We are collecting items for the Food Pantry at Beechland Baptist Church for our Quarter 3 service project. Last year, we collected 416 food items for their food pantry! You may begin sending items in to your child s classroom now. The cutoff date is Thursday, March 7. All PK4-8th Grade students will be attending the matinee performance with their class on Thursday. Please contact Mrs. Stivers at if you have any questions. Tickets are also available for purchase at the door - Thursday matinee will be $8/person and the Friday evening performance will be $10/adults and $8/students.
