Come Lord Jesus. - John Main, OSB Upcoming Events at St. John s Little is known about St. Matthew, except that he was the son of Alpheus, and he was likely born in Galilee. He worked as a tax collector, which was a hated profession during the time of Christ. According to the Gospel, Matthew was working at a collection booth in Capernaum when Christ came to him and asked, "Follow me." With this simple call, Matthew became a disciple of Christ. From Matthew we know of the many doings of Christ and the message Christ spread of salvation for all people who come to God through Him. The Gospel account of Matthew tells the same story as that found in the other three Gospels, so scholars are certain of its authenticity. His book is the first of the four Gospels in the New Testament. Matthew was a tax collector and is therefore the patron saint of bankers. Lori DiBiase - Coordinator of Religious Education Ida Pietrosanti & Liz Tota - Program Assistants FaithFormation@sjtemahopac.org Program Office Hours Monday-Tuesday 3-8pm, Wednesday-Thursday 3-6pm Saturday 8-10am or by appointment Monday-Thursday Our Faith Formation program is up and running and our hallways are alive once again with the many smiling faces of our children, parents, and our volunteers who are eager to bring the Word and teachings of God to life in the classroom! Today is also Catechetical Sunday where we recognize and commission our Volunteers and Staff to rededicate themselves to their beautiful ministry. Today at our 8:45am & 5:30pm Masses, we will enroll all of our Sacramental students into the start of their preparation programs, and also ask any of our volunteers stand and be recognized and blessed as they begin this fruitful year in the program. Here is an excerpt from the Archdiocese of New York about this special day: This year, the Church will celebrate Catechetical Sunday on September 17, The 2017 theme will be "Living as Missionary Disciples. Those who the Community has designated to serve as catechists will be called forth to be commissioned for their ministry. Catechetical Sunday is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the role that each person plays, by virtue of Baptism, in handing on the faith and being a witness to the Gospel. Catechetical Sunday is an opportunity for all to rededicate themselves to this mission as a community of faith. Please join us and keep in prayer all of our children, families, Catechists, Staff, and all of our other wonderful volunteers who help us every day spread the Word of God each week in the classroom.
