Visit Thank you for your generosity! RESPECT LIFE SOCIETY Spiritual Adoption Most people cannot travel to Washington for the March for Life on Jan. 22 nd. There are things that can be done to remember the unborn. We can pray for them and one specific way would be to use the Spiritual Adoption prayer that Bishop Fulton J. Sheen used. Jesus, Mary and Joseph, I love you very much. I beg you to spare the life of the unborn child that I have spiritually adopted who is in danger of abortion. This prayer should be said for the nine months that a child is in the womb. At the beginning of Mass, we are offered the opportunity to ask God for forgiveness for any sins we may have committed since we were last at Mass. Although this rite does not replace the Sacrament of Reconciliation, it is a good practice to ask God for forgiveness before we prepare to receive both His Word and His Body. There are a few ways that the Penitential Act is said: first is through the Confiteor, the prayer that begins with I confess to Almighty God. The priest may decide to instead (or additionally) say or sing the Kyrie ( Lord have mercy, Christ have mercy, Lord have mercy formula). An additional option is the following dialogue: Priest: Have mercy on us, O Lord. People: For we have sinned against you. Priest: Show us, O Lord, your mercy. People: And grant us your salvation. The act always concludes with the priest formally blessing these prayers with May Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins, and bring us to everlasting life and the congregation responds Amen. * * * In our weekly Did you know? section, we ll try to explain mysteries of the Mass and other parts of the Catholic faith. 4 St. Anthony, Abbot ANTHONY was born in the year 251 in Egypt. Our Lord spoke to him saying: "If thou wilt be perfect, go, sell, what thou hast, and give to the poor. He gave away all he had tried and stated learning how to live a holy life. He lived in the desert, where he lived the life of a hermit for many years. He devoted himself to prayer and penance. For more than twenty years Anthony was tempted by the devil, but he overcame temptation by prayer and sacrifice. Many people flocked to him for advice. He consented to guide them in holiness. He started the first monastery, so people call him the father of monastic life and the patriarch of monks. His miracles drew so many people so he left and went into the desert again, where he lived by hard work and prayer. In 305, Anthony founded a religious community of hermits who lived in separate cells. He died in 356 at the age of one hundred and five. 8 NOTICIAS DE NUESTRA PARROQUIA Lunes, 23 de enero: Día de Penitencia y Oración El 22 de enero del 1973 es una fecha notoria de la Corte Suprema de los Estados Unidos por su fallo, Roe v. Wade, que inventó el derecho del aborto legal. La decisión facilitó la matanza de 59 millones de niños en EE.UU. (aprox.) por abortos químicos y quirúrgicos, ni hablar del duelo de tantas madres (y padres también) y la perversión de la medicina y ciencia. El aborto legal anima una <<cultura de la muerte>> (San Juan Pablo II) que cita a la muerte como solución a tantos problemas, sea por el aborto, la tortura, culto de la Santa Muerte, explotación de embrioncitos, eutanasia, descuido de los pobres y débiles, la guerra injusta y <<diversiones>> como juegos de videos violentos y sangrientos (vb. Assassin s Creed, Grand Theft Auto ). La serie de videos mostrando el comercio de Planned Parenthood de órganos y partes de bebes abortados (por esa misma empresa multimillonaria) brinda otra dimensión imaginable quizás hace décadas por escritores de novelas, películas o programas de ficción científica o de horror. Puesto que caiga el 22 de enero en un domingo, los obispos de EE.UU. nos piden observar el lunes, 23 de enero como Día de Penitencia y Oración para ofrecer expiación a Dios, el Juez Supremo de naciones además de personas, y para orar por la restauración de garantías legales del derecho de vida. Observemos el día cuaresmalmente, de rezar más (con tema de pro-vida) y sacrificar (vb., telenovelas, carne, juegos de video). Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, patrona del movimiento pro-vida, ruega por nosotros!
