2 A WORD FROM OUR PASTOR Should you invite people to church or Jesus? First, invite people to Jesus. Inviting people to church is secondary to inviting them to Jesus. The statistics say that 95% of people come to faith in Christ through a personal invitation, and only 5% come to faith in Christ through a mass invitation. These stats shouldn't be surprising since Jesus commanded every believer to "Go" share the message of the gospel (Matt. 28:18-20). Second, keep inviting people to church. Many have assumed inviting non-christians to church doesn't work anymore. Since we are giving out stats, here is one more: 63% of Americans say they are "very willing to somewhat willing" to accept an invitation to attend church from a family member. We must be honest; the Bible describes the primary function of the church gatherings as an opportunity to preach the gospel to believers. For instance, Paul writes letters to the churches among the Gentiles (Corinthians, Ephesians, Philippians, etc), and each letter was written to "the saints" Christians. So, church is not primarily an evangelistic tool. However, the Bible does tell us to invite people far from God to church, so they may see the worship of God by the people of God. And this may be more effective than you think. People in the U.S. are skeptical of institutions especially religious ones. Ed Stetzer wrote: "In our post-christian nation, people who are skeptical of the faith are often attracted to the Christian community before they are attracted to the Christian message." So, a simple church invitation is still very effective in helping people come to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior (Romans 10:9-13) Pastor Mitch

Whoever abides in Me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing. John 15:5 ESV God s Word is powerfully clear as it wisely instructs us to stay connected to HIM. We nurture our dependence on God each day as we make time to renew our mind through prayer and by reading God s letters to us. Failure to realize our dependence on Christ (our Vine) causes us to be busy doing things our way first; then, after we hit trouble, go to God in prayer. Ronnie Floyd in How to Pray states that, prayerlessness occurs when you depend on yourself and prayer occurs when you depend on God. Knowing that James 5:16 tells us that our prayer can be both powerful and effective makes it worth pursuing daily. Therefore, keep reading HIS Word, and praying. With these, you are feeding the branch and fruit will occur just as HE said in the Word. Please consider inviting another to pray with you for the upcoming Vacation Bible School at WBC June Select a schedule you both can meet on the phone or even in person and have a brief time of prayer together for the children (and their families!) and the volunteers involved through this outreach. Be prepared to receive a blessing as well as be a blessing to others! As we continue praying for others, please remember to pray for our Belize Mission Team. Prayers for individuals and for the group are both very important. Also, pray for people in Belize the mission team will seek to impact for Christ. God will do amazingly more than we can even ask or imagine as we continue to show our dependence on HIM for this effort through our ongoing prayers. 10 MISSIONS Monkey River Town, Belize Tuesday, August 14 Tuesday, August 21 Power Tools on Mission Do you have power tools such as a circular saw, reciprocating saw or power drills that are serviceable but going unused? Would you consider donating it to the cause of missions in Belize? The Monkey River Town Mission team from Woodlawn plans to build a community park swing set/climbing structure when we go there in August. We plan to take power tools for the project and leave those with the local coordinator for use on future projects. If you have power tools you d like to donate, please contact Don Trapp or take them to the church office. Since there are weight limits on our baggage, it is possible that all donations cannot be taken. Therefore, if your tool can t be taken and you d like to have it returned, please put your name on the tool and it will be returned. Thank you for your help in this ministry effort.
