2 A WORD FROM OUR PASTOR Some friends of mine adopted a girl from overseas, who ate her food by surrounding her plate with one arm and working her fork in a shoveling motion with the other arm. Although she lived in a home where there was plenty of food and no one had ever tried to take anything from her while she was eating, she still kept the guarded posture she had learned from her time in the orphanage. Her parents have spent many hours teaching her that they care for her. Although her parents understood that she would change over time as she accepted her new reality, it still broke their hearts to see her struggling to overcome her past. When we mess up or sin there is a tendency to think we have let God down and the emotions he is experiencing is anger and disappointment. Really I think what God is experiencing is more akin to these parents with their adopted daughter, it breaks his heart to see his adopted children struggling to overcome their past. I say this because of Paul's encouragement in Romans 8:13, 15: "by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body... For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, 'Abba! Father!'" So God does not want us to continue to live as we once did before we were adopted. He is hoping we will embrace our new reality. If you have put your faith and trust in Jesus then you have become a son or daughter of God like Jesus. And God wants us to realize we don't have to live as if there is no one to care for us. We don't have to stay huddled over our food thinking that if I don't take care of myself no one else will either. No, now we can cry to him as "Abba, Father." We don't need to "fall back into fear." Our behavior can turn from fear to trust when we come to recognize our new reality, an adopted child with all the rights and privileges of the oldest Son. Pastor Mitch

Review the truths below and again be amazed at His power for that same God is at work today! May His Church continue boldly to PRAY and BELIEVE! The God who stopped the sun on high (Joshua 10:12-13) And sent the manna from the sky, (Exodus 16:4-5) Laid flat the walls of Jericho (Joshua 6:20) And put to flight old Israel s foe, (Joshua 10:8-10) Why can t He answer prayer today (Luke 1:37) And drive each stormy cloud away? (Matthew 14:31-32) Who turned the water into wine (John 2:3-11) And healed the helpless cripple s spine, (Luke 13:11-16) Commands the tempest, Peace, be still (Mark 4:39) And hungry multitudes does fill? (John 6:9-13) His power is just the same today (Hebrews 13:8) So why not labor, watch and pray? (Matthew 26:41) He conquered in the lions den (Daniel 6:16-23) He brought Lazarus back to life again. (John 11:38-45) He heard Elijah s cry for rain (1 Kings 18:42-45) And freed the sufferers from pain. (Matthew 8:16-18) If He could do these wonders then, (Exodus 14:21-31) Let s prove our mighty God again. (Malachi 3:10) Why can t God who raised the dead, (1 Kings 17:17-22) Gave little David Goliath s head, (1 Samuel 17:32-51) Cast out demons with a word, (Matthew 8:28-32) Yet see the fall of one wee bird, (Matthew 10:29) Do signs and miracles today (John 14:12) In that same good, old-fashioned way? (Acts 5:12-16) HE CAN! He s just the same today, (Ephesians 3:20) If we believe God when we pray. (Mark 11:23-24) The November Bible reading schedule is printed in this newsletter. 6 SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 11, 8:00AM In preparation for this Clean and Repair day, the Building & Grounds team conducted a walkthrough of our facilities and found many items ranging from basic cleaning up to more complex electrical issues needing to be addressed as we seek to upgrade and improve every aspect of the campus. There will be jobs for every person of student age and up, male and female. Would you please plan to be part of the Woodlawn Family Clean and Repair Work Day to help with these improvements? PS-If you are a program leader in a particular area where something needs attention, please contact Don Trapp at and advise him of the deficiency so it can be put on the list of work items.
