10 John 6:47-58 (ESV) Jesus s Body and Blood 47 Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes has eternal life. 48 I am the bread of life. 49 Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died. 50 This is the bread that comes down from heaven, so that one may eat of it and not die. 51 I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. And the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh. 52 The Jews then disputed among themselves, saying, How can this man give us his flesh to eat? 53 So Jesus said to them, Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. 54 Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day. 55 For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. 56 Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him. 57 As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so whoever feeds on me, he also will live because of me. 58 This is the bread that came down from heaven, not like the bread the fathers ate, and died. Whoever feeds on this bread will live forever. 10

13 Hebrews 9:11-28 (ESV) 11 But when Christ appeared as a high priest of the good things that have come, then through the greater and more perfect tent (not made with hands, that is, not of this creation) 12 he entered once for all into the holy places, not by means of the blood of goats and calves but by means of his own blood, thus securing an eternal redemption. 13 For if the blood of goats and bulls, and the sprinkling of defiled persons with the ashes of a heifer, sanctify for the purification of the flesh, 14 how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, purify our conscience from dead works to serve the living God. 15 Therefore he is the mediator of a new covenant, so that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance, since a death has occurred that redeems them from the transgressions committed under the first covenant. 16 For where a will is involved, the death of the one who made it must be established. 17 For a will takes effect only at death, since it is not in force as long as the one who made it is alive. 18 Therefore not even the first 19 covenant was inaugurated without blood. For when every commandment of the law had been declared by Moses to all the people, he took the blood of calves and goats, with water and scarlet wool and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book itself and all the people, 20 saying, This is the blood of the covenant that God commanded for you. 21 And in the same way he sprinkled with the blood both the tent and all the vessels used in worship. 22 Indeed, under the law almost everything is purified with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins. 23 Thus it was necessary for the copies of the heavenly things to be purified with these rites, but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these. 24 For Christ has entered, not into holy places made with hands, which are copies of the true things, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God on our behalf. 25 Nor was it to offer himself repeatedly, as the high priest enters the holy places every year with blood not his own, 26 for then he would have had to suffer repeatedly since the foundation of the world. But as it is, he has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself. 27 And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment, 28 so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him

18 1925 Baptist Faith & Message It, Baptism, is prerequisite to the privileges of a church relation and to the Lord s Supper, in which the members of the church, by the use of bread and wine, commemorate the dying love of Christ and 2000 Baptist Faith and Message Statement Being a church ordinance, Baptist, it is prerequisite to the privileges of church membership and to the Lord s Supper. The Lord s Supper is a symbolic act of obedience whereby members of the church, through partaking of the bread and the fruit of the vine memorialize the death of the Redeemer and anticipate His second coming. The Standard Confession That it is the duty of such who are constituted as aforesaid, to continue steadfastly in Christs and the Apostles Doctrine, and assembling together, in fellowship, in breaking of bread, and prayer, Acts 2:42. 18

19 London Confession of Faith 1644 Baptism and the Lord s Supper are ordinances of positive, and sovereign institution; appointed by the Lord Jesus, the only Law-giver, to be continued in his Church to the end of the world. The Supper of the Lord Jesus, was instituted by him, the same night wherein he was betrayed, to be observed in his Churches unto the end of the world, for the perpetual remembrance, and showing forth the sacrifice in his death confirmation of the faith of believers in all the benefits thereof, their spiritual nourishment, and growth in him, their further engagement in, and to, all duties which they owe unto him; and to be a bond and pledge of their communion with him, and with each other. In this ordinance, Christ is not offered up to his Father nor any real sacrifice made at all, for remission of sin of the quick or dead; but only a memorial of that one offering up of himself, by himself, upon the cross, once for all; and a spiritual oblation of all possible praise unto God for the same; so that the Popish sacrifice of the Mass (as they call it) is most abominable, injurious to Christs own only sacrifice, the alone propitiation for all the sins of the Elect. The New Hampshire Confession That baptism is prerequisite to the privileges of a Church relation; and to the Lord s Supper, in which the members of the church, by the sacred use of bread and wine, are to commemorate together the dying love of Christ; preceded always by solemn self-examination. 19

23 Global Today we will pray for Germany. Population: 82,056, % Christian 2.1% Evangelical 4.40% Muslim People Groups Unreached Pastoral Prayer The decline of Christianity in Germany continues into the 21st century. West Germany was 97% Christian in 1960, but Germany is now 63% Christian, and that percentage decreases every year. Most people do not see the Church as relevant to society or their lives. In fact, church attendance is low across all denominations which has caused some churches to close their doors. The need for evangelization is recognized but without a return to genuine faith in God, new concepts and programs will never replace the need for renewal. Local Church We will also pray for Lanier Baptist Church and their Pastor, Mike Ferguson. (4851 Lanier Dr., Baton Rouge, LA 70812) ( LanierBC@cox.net) Woodlawn Baptist Church For matters related to our own local body, see weekly prayer guide distributed via during the week. 23

24 Offering It is more blessed to give than to receive (Acts 20:35). One of the greatest joys for Christians is being able to give cheerfully, generously, and sacrificially. There is tremendous satisfaction that comes from seeing the fruits of our labor multiplied many times over in the lives of others. Money is a powerful thing, and when we use it well, it has potential to do incredible good. We hope that we re able to excel in the grace of giving. And so having been found faithful with little, God will be pleased to entrust us with more.
