2 IN SP IRATION In tro spective Page 2 FROM THE PASTOR The Lord has set before SPBC an open door that no one can shut (Revela on 3:8). The ques on that clamors for an answer is: What does this really mean for us? Consider for a moment the place in which God has situated this church plant. More than 47,000 cars pass this building each day. Many people who have visited our services said that they came because of the digital sign. Others have pointed to the website as the one thing that led them to the church. S ll others admit that friends brought them to the church service that day. The open door that stands before the church is the opportuni es that God is bringing our way. We touch so many lives either through direct ministries or indirect ones. The groups that meet in our building get a taste of who we are by the people they meet while here. Every Sunday morning we have guests in our worship service, most are first me guests. One lady recently said that she was going to her church and could not get farther than this one. She stopped in to worship with us and received a blessing from the Holy Spirit. You are a messenger for Christ wherever you go, whatever you do and with whomever you meet (either by appointment or at random). The mandate for the church is the Great Commission (Ma hew 28:18 20) and its impetus is the Great Commandment (Ma hew 22:37 39). Each of us are representa ves of the church because we make up this local body. The Lord uses us to share His love with others; o en mes without us knowing of their need for an act of kindness, gentleness, encouragement or compassion. How people view us is how they see the church. Be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your toil is not in vain in the Lord (1 Corinthians 15:58). Pig Pickin Labor Day Picnic Join us for the annual Pig Pickin fellowship dinner at the church on September 1st. The fun starts at 4:30 with inflatables for the kids and games for everyone. Dinner will begin at 5:30. The church will provide BBQ, hot dogs, baked beans, coleslaw and drinks. Please bring a dessert to share.

For He spoke, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood firm. Psalm 33:8 9 How many mes recently have you seen ads for Back to School specials? Did you take advantage of the tax free shopping? Have you spent me, energy and money preparing for those going to school? Probably so, and for very good reasons! We believe learning to read helps We believe reading God s Word helps The thought that we could have been born in any other country gives us reason to be thankful we live in America. Yet, we realize freedom in America isn t free, but is always accompanied with responsibility. Would you pray for: Families as they adjust to demanding schedules and expenses Safety for students going to/from school and for safety throughout the school environment Teachers to show understanding and compassion. Ask God to provide guidance in person Wisdom for administrators/leaders concerning personnel ma ers, decision making and integrity with financial priori es? Our challenge is to pray regularly for those involved in educa on at home, church, and school/community/business loca ons. Make a prayer list, call them by name, and believe that prayer works. The educa onal goals are ongoing, long reaching and o en shared in abbreviated messages along the highway such as: I Pod, I Pad, I Pray or Wag more, bark less We believe prac cing good behavior helps, al rela onships that build up rather than The Prayer Team In Depth By now, many of you may have learned the Leadership Team has shuffled its officers. 7 Page 7 2 CORINTHIANS 8:7 Cover to Cover CHURCH STAFF Dr. Alvin Southerland Senior Pastor al@sandyplains.org As we approach the month of September, it marks the me that we started to read our Bibles cover tocover in twelve months. Hopefully, many of you accepted the opportunity to read God s Word whether it was the first me or mul ple mes for you. If you read the Bible, I know you have been blessed and you have drawn closer to God! Please let the church office know by the end of September 2013 if you have finished your reading of the Bible so we may take note of this most important accomplishment. Needless to say, the most important thing is to read the Bible. The reading of it in twelve months is just a goal to help mo vate us. Many of you have read it in much shorter me, but the key is to read it coverto cover and honor God and show Him the love He deserves from us. 8 IN SP IRATION In tune Page 8 NEWS FROM THE WORSHIP PASTOR If you are interested in helping with our audio and visual ministry or would like to get involved with producing and edi ng the weekly video announcements On The Quarter, please see Bryan Paine. Help is much appreciated. A quick thought, And at the seventh me, when the priests had blown the trumpets, Joshua said to the people, Shout, for the LORD has given you the city." Joshua 6:16 ESV We have all heard the story of Joshua figh ng the Ba le of Jericho. If you grew up in the church, you might have even learned a song about it. It is a popular story that many are familiar with, but there is much to learn about the way God worked in this narra ve. Joshua was leading the Israelites into the promised land and it came me to take their first city. They arrived at Jericho only to face an extremely well for fied city. It didn t look good for the Israelites. God then told Joshua to march sounds crazy, but it wasn t, because God s plan was to get the glory in that ba le. A er the final shout and the taking of Jericho, there was only one person that could receive the glory, that was God. He does this in our lives as well. We might think we are up against an obstacle that cannot be moved, but we have a God who takes care of his people for his glory. David Pla in his book Radical says about this scripture: This is how God works. He puts his people in posi ons where they are desperate for his power, and then he shows his provision in ways that display his greatness. Are we allowing God to display his greatness in our lives today, allowing him to work in us to overcome our obstacles? Christmas Presenta on: The Christmas Choir will be presen ng, Searching for the King on Sunday morning, December 15th. This will be a very large produc on that will require many choir members, actors and actresses, audio/ visual team, children singers, stage crew, and many other miscellaneous helpers. Also, if you would like to be a part of the Christmas Choir, which is separate from the Worship Choir, then please contact me.
