2 Gree ngs in the light of the Star, leading us through the darkness into God s marvelous light! We are now entering into the center of living a life with Christ of Vibrant Faith, and it is an exci ng me. Congrega onal work will mostly be done by teams who volunteer for a one-event or one year commitment. Teams headed by one or a few volunteers We have a Mission Fair on January 22 a er 11:45 worship with sandwiches, a li le me for lively discussion, then booths, treats, sign-ups, and conversa ons. Pastor and staff will coordinate with the Teams, and assist where needed. We ll be working on Team guidelines or how-tos that will be simple and help your work. We ve already started with some Teams and they worked great! Reminder, that if you want to be on the main Vibrant Faith Team just tell Ted or Pastor. We ll help coordinate, spin-off some things, and look for holes in our missional work. One of the areas people are wan ng more opportunity in is adult Bible Study and faith growth. Let s see what we can come up with that really works for your schedule. Here is a quick challenge from Vibrant Faith: Toward a faith forming Culture How do we create an authen c culture of faith forma on? If you want to focus strictly on Chris an educa on, then the tradi onal gathered program approach is as good as any. But if you want to move beyond educa on to forma on that leads to transforma on then you ll need to move beyond faith forma on as a set of programs to create and nurture a whole culture an ecosystem of faith forma on. Jesus presented faith as a whole way of life. Educa on is just one piece in the complex puzzle of the lifelong journey of faith forma on. Head knowledge has to be integrated with heart rela onships and the hands on experience. Interes ng, no? It s very OK to think outside the box. An internet mee ng? That s what our global interfaith group does. Coffee shop mee ng? That s what our singles folks are thinking for TFH. Let s think about what would work for you We ll also be thinking, and especially praying, about where our heart and passion is as a congrega on over this next year, so we can build more on that. There is so much to play with, not as in me killers, but as in reflec on and prayer, and looking at things in new ways. How can we build discipleship lives in each other in all that we do and in how we do it? It s not about doing more, it s about doing what we do with greater soul depth. We want our lives to reflect this Gospel of Jesus that transforms all of life, touching us with God and Mercy, and Peace, and Eternity. What a great journey to be on together! A Twel h Night Madrigal Evening with the Greenleaf Singers - Friday, January 6 th, :30 PM The Greenleaf Singers is an exci ng vocal ensemble specializing in a cappella music of the Renaissance. Their repertoire includes folk songs from village fes vals, and love melodies from royal palaces. So, come sit back, relax and enjoy their wonderfully blended voices as they bring to life the works of the most gi ed composers of the 15 th thru 16 th Centuries as well as some cherished carols of the season in celebra on of Twel h Night. This is a fes val marking the coming of the Epiphany and concluding the Twelve Days of Christmas. It is defined by the Shorter Oxford English Dic onary as the evening of the fi h of January, preceding Twel h Day, the eve of the Epiphany, formerly the last day of the Christmas fes vi es and observed as a me of merrymaking. Tickets: $8 for adults, $4 for children, and $4 for Good Shepherd members (see Ted for coupon). Refreshments following. Bless you! Congrega onal Mee ng Sunday, March 5, 2017 a er late service: Agenda - Approval of 2017 Annual Budget Mark your calendars! The Central States Synod has designated the upcoming Epiphany Season as a Season of Global Awareness. In a resolution passed at the 2016 Central States Synod Assembly, the voting members of the Central State Synod said, Be it resolved that the Epiphany Season be designated as a Season of Global Awareness for all congregations within the Central States Synod and that the congregations intentionally lift up the church around the world through prayer, song, learning, and in any other way appropriate to the context of the congregation. But is also resolved that the congregations of the Central States Synod designate at least one Sunday during the Epiphany Season as a Sunday of Celebration for the Global Church. CHURCH CAMPOUT The annual church family campout will be held August 11-13, 2017 at Dam West Campground, Carlyle, IL. Reserva ons must be made by the first of February. Please let Kathy Carter know how many nights (and which nights) you want to camp. Please her or call her on her cell at 314/ with this informa on no later than Saturday, January 28, The camping fees are $18 per night (unless they change in 2017) plus a $10 reserva on fee to ensure ge ng the campsites we want (booking for more days and changing later). Kathy will let you know at a later date how much you owe, so you don t need to give her a check up front.

4 From the studio of Good Shepherd s Composer-in-Residence, Co-Minister of Music, and Vibrant Faith Ministry Development Director, Ted Jander Our second annual Reverse Christmas Caroling was a success. A goodly number of our members gathered in the Welcome Area as we sang favorite carols and partook of tasty cookies a erwards. Plus, a small crew headed out to the homes of several of our shut-ins to sing. All involved enjoyed these musical experiences of this fes ve season. Thank you to John and Judy Hayes for heading up the event! As we enter the season of Epiphany, I wanted to take this opportunity to thank all the of the instrumentalists, singers, Assis ng Ministers, Lectors, ushers, Altar Guild, Liturgical Arts Team, and anyone else who helped in making the Christmas Season and worship services possible. Thank you all so very much for your me & talents. Each of you is a true blessing to the vibrant missional life of Good Shepherd. We con nue our affirma ons this month with eleven examples involving gi s and cards: 1. Send someone a birthday card with three reasons why you appreciate him or her. 2. Send someone a card with a $5 gi card to celebrate the gi of friendship. 3. Send a card that lists five things you hope to do with that person in the coming year. 4. Write a handwri en note to a person, giving thanks to God for their friendship. 5. Send pictures to someone, remembering a shared experience. 6. Send someone a book you just read and invite them to read it. 7. Send someone a CD of your favorite music. 8. Drop off a loaf of freshly baked bread. 9. Make a dona on to a cause in honor of someone. 10. Send a movie gi cer ficate to a friend and suggest a date for seeing a movie together. 11. Send a person a prayer stone to carry as a reminder that you are praying for him or her throughout the day.

5 We had a great turn out for our annual Christmas party nearly 80. What a great, joyous evening it was, full of fun, conversa on, and laughs! Special thank you to my elf-helper Arlene Hunt and to Karen Sides for dona ng all the poinse as to adorn the party and as prizes. Their gi s to God. Thank you Karen Gehner for stepping up that night to help pull this off during my illness, great friend. To everyone in WOGS a big thank you! Last, my husband, Bill, for his pa ence, understanding, and wri ng my crazy script of 7 deadly sins. You always pull through cleaning and wri ng. Ha! Fun Cross+Genera onal Mission Fair Sunday, January 22. Starts at noon with a light sandwich lunch. Then we ll spend minutes discussing our Mission/Vision/Core Values, etc. Then we ll have a Mission Fair with booths, free treats, Teams sign-ups, etc. Mark your calendars and come. TRUSTEES The trustees are making available a program for all members called the traveling trustees. The purpose of this program is to assist members with small unskilled jobs. See the request form on the next page. We also are adding a recycling program for TV s if you have an old TV or monitor you need to recycle let us know by comple ng the request form. If you are able to bring the TV to church we will take to the re-cycle loca on and if the TV or monitor is too large or heavy for you we will pick up. The recycling cost is $15 per TV. Also if you have any paint or other type of hazardous material you can complete the form and we will contact you with a date for disposal. There is no charge for these services, but a dona on to the Church is appreciated. If you have any ques ons please feel free to contact a member of the trustees. More forms will be available on the KIOSK.
