4 HOLY TRINITY CATHOLIC CHURCH June 23, 2013 Twelfth Sunday in Ordinary Time TAKE UP THE CROSS DAILY The great fifty-day celebration of Easter has concluded, as have the feasts honoring the Holy Trinity and the Body and Blood of Christ. We now stand at the beginning of a long stretch of Ordinary Time that will bring us to late November. Saint Paul tells us today that those who are baptized "have clothed yourselves with Christ" (Galatians 3:27). This scripture is echoed in the Church's baptism ritual, when we sing, "You have put on Christ, in Him you have been baptized." This message is inspiring and sobering at the same time, for in today's Gospel, we get to the heart of what it means to be clothed in Christ. The Lord tells us, "If anyone wishes to come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow Me" (Luke 9:23). For the next twenty-two weeks we are called to take up the cross and, with Saint Luke as our guide, follow in the footsteps of Christ. To be clothed in Christ means that we become Christ for one another. It also means that we heed the call issued forth from Christ in today's Gospel to take up the cross daily and follow Him. It also means that we are clothed with another manifestation of Christ in our Christian experience, namely, we become part of this community that is the body of Christ. One consolation about being a Christian is that we never take up our crosses alone. We always have the support and love of the body of Christ. As the long stretch of Ordinary Time opens before us, let us pledge to support one another as we take up our crosses daily and follow in the footsteps of Christ, in Whom we have been baptized. 5 Leave Call Director of Parish Legacy Initiative (719) Other Bequest Options: IRAs and Insurance Policies A retirement asset like an IRA or 401(k) makes an excellent bequest to charity. If your IRA were given to your family, much of the value would be depleted through estate and income taxes. By designating us as the beneficiary of part or all of your IRA, the full value of your gift is transferred to us tax free at your death and your estate receives a charitable deduction. Similarly, if your insurance policy is gifted to us at your death, your estate avoids paying tax on the asset value and receives a charitable deduction. To make a bequest of your IRA, other retirement account or life insurance policy, obtain a beneficiary designation form from your plan custodian or insurance company and designate us as beneficiary. For more information on the benefits of making a charitable bequest or for sample bequest language to complete your charitable plan, please visit our website or call us today. We all desire significance to lead happy and fulfilled lives surrounded by family and friends. For many of us, there is a compelling need to make a difference that leads us to ponder our legacy. What kind of legacy will you leave? A bequest is perhaps the easiest and most tangible way to leave a lasting impact on the people and organizations that mean the most to you. A Bequest is One of the Easiest Gifts to Make With the help of an advisor, you can include language in your will or trust specifying a gift to be made to family, friends or charity as part of your estate plan. A bequest may be made in several ways: Gift of a dollar amount Gift of a specific asset Gift of a percentage of your estate Gift of the residue of your estate The Benefits of Making a Charitable Bequest One benefit of a charitable bequest is that it enables you to further our work long after you are gone. Better yet, a charitable bequest can help you save estate taxes by providing your estate with a charitable deduction for the value of the gift. With careful planning, your family can also avoid paying income taxes on the assets they receive from your estate.

6 HOLY TRINITY CATHOLIC CHURCH June 23, 2013 PEACH AND PEAR SALE Council #582 Knights of Columbus for Holy Trinity Parish will once again sell peaches and pears this summer. Due to severe weather and late frosts half of the peach crop was lost. The surviving crop looks good but is the SURVIVING CROP. As a result, one half of last year s peach sales will be allocated to each council for this year. We regret this inconvenience, but there will not be enough peaches to go around. Therefore, we must initiate a firstcome, first-serve and limit one box per customer policy this year. Pears look good and there will no be restrictions on pears this year. Prices are as follows: 18 lbs. peaches-$31; 10 lbs. peaches-$20; 20 lb. pears-$30; 10 lb. pears $19. Our Knights will start taking order next weekend (June 29/30) and each weekend thereafter until our quota of 601 lb. peaches is reached. Thank you for your support. Reflections on the Apostles Creed I believe in...one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation He came down from heaven, and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake He was crucified under Pontius Pilate, He suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. The Paschal Mystery the crucifixion, death and resurrection of Jesus is at the center of our faith. We believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the only Son of God. He is the salvation of the world, now and forever. Post Abortion Healing Retreat If you are struggling from having had an abortion, experience the healing presence and love of Jesus Christ on a Rachel s Vineyard Weekend Retreat. Rachel s Vineyard retreats address the soul wounds that run deep in many women and men who have had an abortion and in those who have helped another have an abortion. The retreat is open to individuals, couples, and grandparents. The retreat experience combines Scriptural exercises, discussions and sharing, the Sacrament of Reconciliation with a compassionate priest, a Memorial service, and a Mass of the Resurrection. Come and experience God s tender, healing mercy in this Catholic, scripturally based program suitable for all Christian denominations. Memories of condemnation, abandonment, pain, and confusion are handled with care and replaced by reconciliation. The retreat offers a beautiful opportunity to experience God s unconditional love, forgiveness, compassion, and His peace with others who are also in need of healing. A priest and a licensed counselor are in attendance throughout the weekend. Participation is completely confidential. The next retreat is July For more information call or Lori lorgreg@msn.com or Amee Astadler7@msn.com. For an overview of the retreat and testimonies of past retreat participants, see the National Rachel s Vineyard website at Recommended reading: Forbidden Grief by Theresa Burke Redeeming a Father's Heart: Men Share Powerful Stories of Abortion Loss and Recovery by Kevin Burke Don t struggle alone. Come and be with others who have known and experienced the same soul wound and have found forgiveness and peace. "Blessed are those that mourn for they shall be comforted." Matthew 5:4
