The parish office schedules presiders, musicians, and servers in consultation with family members. RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS (RCIA) Do you want to better understand the Catholic Church? Do you wonder what your Catholic spouse believes and why? Have you ever thought about entering the Catholic Church? Have you been baptized but have not yet received the Sacraments of Eucharist and Confirmation? If you answered yes to any of these, we hope you ll consider the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA). Our RCIA program offers the opportunity to learn about the Church s beliefs, Biblical foundations, and beauty as well as her 2000-year-old history, traditions, and practices. Our classes focus on the teaching of the Church and the experience of being Catholic. They will prepare you to enter the Church at Easter, when we celebrate the sacraments of Baptism, First Communion, and Confirmation. 4 HOLY TRINITY CATHOLIC CHURCH December 16, 2018 Advent A good, pious way to help us in our Advent preparation has been the use of the Advent wreath. (Interestingly, the use of the Advent wreath was borrowed from the German Lutherans in the early 1500s.) The wreath is a circle, which has no beginning or end: So we call to mind how our lives, here and now, participate in the eternity of God s plan of salvation and how we hope to share eternal life in the Kingdom of Heaven. The wreath is made of fresh plant material, because Christ came to give us new life through His passion, death, and resurrection. Three candles are purple, symbolizing penance, preparation, and sacrifice; the pink candle symbolizes the same but highlights the third Sunday of Advent, Gaudete Sunday, when we rejoice because our preparation is now half-way finished. The light represents Christ, who entered this world to scatter the darkness of evil and show us the way of righteousness. The progression of lighting candles shows our increasing readiness to meet our Lord. Each family ought to have an Advent wreath, light it at dinner time, and say the special prayers. This tradition will help each family keep its focus on the true meaning of Christmas. In all, during Advent we strive to fulfill the opening prayer for the Mass of the First Sunday of Advent: Father in Heaven,... increase our longing for Christ our Savior and give us the strength to grow in love, that the dawn of His coming may find us rejoicing in His presence and welcoming the light of His truth. Altar Linen Ministry Each time our priests celebrate Mass, they use a number of different linens purificators that are used to wipe the chalices holding the Precious Blood and corporals where the sacred vessels containing the Body and Blood of the Lord are placed. We have a very devoted volunteer who works each week to make sure that all the linens used in the liturgy are carefully and reverently cleaned and ready to be used at the next Mass. However, she would like some help. This is a humble, behind-the-scenes ministry where you will receive many graces for your service. Please consider donating your time and talent for this ministry.
