Do you wonder what your Catholic spouse believes and why? Have you ever thought about entering the Catholic Church? Have you been baptized but have not yet received the Sacraments of Eucharist and Confirmation? If you answered yes to any of these, we hope you ll consider the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA). Our RCIA program offers the opportunity to learn about the Church s beliefs, Biblical foundations, and beauty as well as her 2000-year-old history, traditions, and practices. Our classes focus on the teaching of the Church and the experience of being Catholic. They will prepare you to enter the Church at Easter, when we celebrate the sacraments of Baptism, First Communion, and Confirmation. Please join our RCIA process, to ask your questions, get answers, and share your own insights and faith story. YOU HAVE NOTHING TO LOSE AND ETERNITY TO GAIN! For more information, please contact us at (719) , Ext. 0 or rcia@holytrinitycos.org. New Parishioners Not a parishioner of Holy Trinity? There are many reasons to become a registered member: religious education classes, opportunities for Christian service in the community, letters of recommendation to serve as godparents and sponsors for newcomers to the faith, pre-printed tithing envelopes (if desired), an annual report of your charitable offerings and a subscription to the Colorado Catholic Herald. Registration forms are available in the foyers or online

4 HOLY TRINITY CATHOLIC CHURCH December 30, 2018 Christmastime For most, Christmas is over by December 26 and life has resumed its normal activities. The Church, on the other hand, observes an Octave of Christmas until January 1 (after the Jewish practice of an 8 day celebration) and an extended Christmastime until January 6, the Feast of the Epiphany. (It is now celebrated on the Sunday between January 2 and January 8). The popular Christmas song, "The Twelve Days of Christmas," is rooted in the festive celebration of Christmastime. It is a celebration of the Catholic faith, from a time in England and Ireland when Catholics had to disguise their Catholic beliefs. During Christmastime, there are feasts of three martyrs: St. Stephen on December 26, who represents those who went to their death willingly; St. John the Evangelist on December 27 who represents those who were willing to die but were not put to death, and the Holy Innocents on December 28, representing those who were put to death without their choice, recalling the events surrounding the birth of Christ. On the Sunday between Christmas and January 1, the Church celebrates the Holy Family. This feast is especially important today as many families today face struggles and challenges in living their Faith. Volunteers Needed We are very grateful to the many parishioners who volunteer to serve in our various parish organizations and ministries. Contributions of your time and talent provide a wonderful example of responding to God s love as you give of self. Currently we need additional help with the following ministries: One or two volunteers for the coffee and donut ministry just two Sundays a month after the 10:45 am Mass. Donuts provided. One or two volunteers to help clean and iron the various altar linens used at Mass each week. Instruction provided. Please call the parish office at x0 to help with either of these ministries Holy Day of Obligation MARY, MOTHER OF GOD Tuesday, January 1, at 12:00 noon Special Religious Ed Event Discover the miraculous history and events surrounding the apparition of Our Lady of Guadalupe, including the supernatural history leading up to the apparition as well as the mysterious image left on the tilma of Juan Diego, at a special Holy Trinity Religious Education event at 9:15 am on January 6, 2019, in the RE classroom. All who attend will learn how the Blessed Virgin Mary is active even today in the New Evangelization, and how we may help her in her endeavor to bring souls to her Son, Jesus. All are welcome! SOCKS SUPPORT OUR COMMUNITY KITCHEN WITH SOCK DONATIONS During Advent we will be collecting brand new white socks for the homeless in our area. All sizes for men, women or children are needed. They may be dropped in the homeless outreach bin in the north foyer. Thank you for your generous support. 5 HOLY TRINITY CATHOLIC CHURCH December 30, 2018 More & Fisher Society Is capitalism anti-catholic? Join our conversation as we evaluate capitalism in the light of Catholic thought at the next meeting of the Sts. More & Fisher Society, Thursday, January 3, at 6:30 pm in the Hope House. Stewardship It may seem strange to list forgiving as a trait of a good steward, but actually it is the essential gift to offer. Forgiveness is that rare gift that not only blesses the recipient, but perhaps even more so, the donor the one who forgives. A good steward does not only hand over things, but more importantly, surrenders his heart and will as well. Forgiving our enemies may be the best indicator of a faithful follower of Christ. The Heart that Gives: Seven Traits of Joyful Stewardship By Fr. Thomas J. Connery, page 25 Secular Order of Discalced Carmelites The Community of the Teresian Carmel and the Little Way secular Order of Discalced Carmelites in Colorado Springs is accepting aspirants at the January 26, 2019, monthly meeting. Please help us feed the poor by donating the following item of the week: peanut butter Adult Faith Formation How to Respond to Tough Questions We Catholics Get In our first three Apologetics classes, we shared responses to questions we Catholics have gotten ever since the Reformation. We then suggested good approaches to use with Mormon and Jehovah Witness missionaries. In our January 6th class, we ll look at current topics: The Bible s reliability and the role of the Church; the facts about various scandals (Crusades, Inquisition, etc.); the importance of objective truth; the war between reason and faith; the widespread promotion of homosexuality and transgenderism. RETURN: How to Draw Loved Ones Back to the Church Almost all of us have family members or friends who have left the Church or totally lost their faith. But knowing Jesus delayed His Passion until He had founded His Church and knowing He set it up as the safest, surest way to reach our heavenly destination we need to help bring all those we care about back home! On January 13th, we ll begin our series RETURN: How to Draw Loved Ones Back to the Church. Classes will first focus on many myths about fallen-away Catholics and the mistakes we often make regarding them. They will then equip us to plant the seeds, start the conversation, advance the dialogue, and close the loop with loved ones who have left. Date Topic Jan 6 Apologetics: Topics of our Time Jan 13 Return 1: Introduction Jan 20 Return 2: The Basics Jan 27 Return 3: Getting Started Feb 3 Return 4: Taking the Next Steps Feb 10 Return 5: Personal Objections Join us Sundays at 9:15 AM in the Hope House. For more information about these and future Adult Faith Formation topics, contact Phil & Connie Pratt at
