1 Church of the Holy Spirit 1969 Crompond Road, Cortlandt Manor, NY OUR PARISH MISSION STATEMENT Holy Spirit is a Eucharistic Community, formed by and in the Holy Spirit, to enable our Community to come closer to God and to each other. MASS Saturday: 5:00pm Sunday: 8:00am, 10:00am, 12:00noon Weekdays (Monday - Saturday): 9:00am PENANCE Saturday: 4:00 - And by Appointment BAPTISM Baptisms are scheduled for 1:30pm on specific Sundays. Catechesis for parents is required. Please call the Parish Office to register for Catechesis. Baptisms may only be scheduled after attending Catechesis. MARRIAGE You must meet with a priest at least one year beforehand to schedule the date and time of your wedding. The wedding date is finalized only by meeting with the priest. SACRAMENT OF THE SICK Those who are sick, homebound, or in the hospital are a vital part of our Parish family. 3 From Fr. John A Week of Celebrating our Faith and Parish - I thank Fr. Jack Rathschmidt for a great Parish Mission this past week. He inspired each of us with his prayer, insight, and humor. May the Lord continue to bless his ministry. Congratulations to our Candidates for Confirmation 2018 who are receiving the Sacrament this weekend at 2 Masses. We thank Bishop Gerald Walsh for conferring the Sacrament. It is always great to have him among us. This weekend we celebrate the Feast of our Parish with Pentecost Sunday. We will gather at the 12 Noon Mass for a special celebration. On hand will be some of the founding members of our parish, along with the entire choir. Following the Mass, the Knights of Columbus and the Columbiettes will host an outdoor family barbecue. I thank them and our Jubilee Committee volunteers for all their hard work in planning this event. Congratulations to all of you for the warm and welcoming parish we have. 4 The book for 2019 Mass Intentions is now open There is a maximum of five weekend Masses per person. Additional Masses may be scheduled after June 1 st. s, written and telephone requests will be accepted after June 1 st. Mass Intentions are scheduled on a first come, first served basis. The donation for each Mass Intention, both announced and unannounced will be $15. You may also donate the Bread and Wine in memory of a loved one for a week s time for $25. WEDDING ANNIVERSARY MASS Is your child entering first grade in September? Did you know that Religious Education starts in first grade and continues through eighth grade with students attending every year? Do you have an older child who has not recently or ever attended Relgious Education? Please call Elizabeth Kogler in the Religious Ed Office at to find out about registering your child for September Registration forms for families currently enrolled in the Program have been mailed out. You can also go to our website at holyspirit-cortlandtmanor.org and click on Religious Education to get your registration form. Vacation Bible School Couples celebrating their 25 th or 50 th Wedding Anniversary anytime during 2018 are invited to renew their vows and receive the Cardinal s award on Sunday, June 10 th at the 10am Mass here at Holy Spirit Church. Please call the Parish Office to let us know if you will be participating in the celebration. Thank you and congratulations! Love at home God has created us so we do small things with great love. I believe in that great love that comes, or should come from our heart, should start at home: with my family, my neighbors across the street, those right next door. 5 The time is rapidly approaching for our next Midnight Run on Friday, June 29 th. As you know, this is our Parish s way of bringing food, clothing, personal hygiene items and prayer to homeless people living on the streets of New York City. For those willing to donate specifically needed items or make a monetary gift (personal check made payable to Holy Spirit Church with Midnight Run in the memo section or cash in an envelope indicating your name and Midnight Run donation), we have simplified the process. You can go directly to the Parish website, ( click on the Midnight Run symbol, and directly link to Signup.com where you can view the list of items needed and make your selection(s). All donated items will be collected before the Masses on the weekend prior to the run, June 23 rd and 24 th. 6 Twenty members gathered on Friday to spend time together and meet Srs. Lyssamma and Anne James from the Franciscan convent in Peekskill. The Sisters and two Lay Associates, Gloria Giunta and Marie Carlucci, spoke about the community's history here and encouraged everyone to "come and see" what it means to be a lay Associate. The presentation was warmly received. Our next meeting will be held on Friday, June 8th from in the Parish Activity Center. Please join us for light refreshments and fellowship. If you would like prayers for someone who is ill or recently deceased, please call the Parish Office. The ill are prayed for during the weekend Masses for two weeks (their name will be announced during Mass). After that, names remain on the prayer list in our bulletin for four weeks. The recently deceased are prayed for during the weekend Masses and added to the list in our bulletin for an additional week. The value of the month for May is WORK! As our students head toward the finish line of another academic year, our teachers, principals and staff are hard at work, modeling the behavior and skills needed for success. Throughout the month, we are celebrating Mary, the Mother of Jesus with May Crownings, prayer services, and Marian Hymns. Our second graders are preparing for and receiving their First Holy Communions. It is truly a great month to be a student in a Catholic School! Our Catholic schools are currently accepting applications for the school year for new students entering grades PK3 through 8th. Financial assistance applications are also being accepted and awards will be made to eligible students entering grades K-8, on a first-come, first-served basis, as funds are available.
