1 Church of the Holy Spirit 1969 Crompond Road, Cortlandt Manor, NY OUR PARISH MISSION STATEMENT Holy Spirit is a Eucharistic Community, formed by and in the Holy Spirit, to enable our Community to come closer to God and to each other. MASS Saturday: 5:00pm Sunday: 8:00am, 10:00am, 12:00noon Weekdays (Monday - Saturday): 9:00am PENANCE Saturday: 4:00 pm And by Appointment BAPTISM Baptisms are scheduled for 1:30pm on specific Sundays. Catechesis for parents is required. Please call the Parish Office to register for Catechesis. Baptisms may only be scheduled after attending Catechesis. MARRIAGE You must meet with a priest at least one year beforehand to schedule the date and time of your wedding. The wedding date is finalized only by meeting with the priest. SACRAMENT OF THE SICK Those who are sick, homebound, or in the hospital are a vital part of our Parish family. 3 From Fr. John We are holding our Annual Liturgical Ministries Day this weekend for all who assist us at Mass. This includes the Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist, Lectors, Ushers, Choir and the Altar Society. We gather annually as one group and to share ideas to help make our liturgies even more welcoming and reverent. I thank them all for their dedication to our Parish. I enjoy our annual meeting with all of you God Bless. Join us for The Annual Thanksgiving Family Mass on Tuesday evening, November 21st at 7:30pm in the Church. Each year we gather to give thanks to offer a prayer of gratitude for the blessings we receive from God s generous hand and to pray for our nation. I would like to encourage all families to join us for the Mass. Mark your calendar and plan to be with us on Saturday, December 2, 2017 for our Annual Christmas Luncheon which will take place at Cortlandt Colonial starting at 12Noon. A flyer with more details and reservation form is available at the doors of the church, our website and at the office. Our Website s New Look - I would like to call your attention to the new look of our website. We are now being hosted by the Archdiocese of New York. The address of the website is the same as before: holyspiritchurch-cortlandtmanor.org. The website will be a more diverse site with much more information on our parish, various links to sites of interest on the web and eventually a link to social media including Facebook and Twitter. The website went live this past Wednesday. Enjoy It is a noble tradition that we honor our Veterans on Veterans Day, November 11th, this year falling on this weekend. We thank them for all the sacrifices that they make to serve our nation and protect our freedoms. May God continue to bless them and their families for many years to come. Have a grace-filled week. 4 Advent Candles The four weeks of Advent give us a chance to reflect on ways we can change our heart to grow closer to God. We traditionally count down the weeks of waiting by lighting a candle on the Advent wreath. This year Advent begins on December 3. The Religious Education Program will be selling Advent candles after all Masses on November 18 and 19. Traditional Advent candles will be $5 per set. We will also have a limited number of brass Advent wreaths for $10 each and battery-operated Advent candles for $20 per set. Candles and wreaths can also be purchased during Religious Ed sessions. Coffee with the Coordinator Join our Religious Education Coordinator, Elizabeth Kogler, for a cup of coffee on Thursday morning, November 16, at 10 a.m. We ll talk about celebrating Advent in your home. In your 30s through 50s? You're invited to the Annual Advent Faith Sharing and Potluck! Hall of Saints At Confirmation, candidates look to the saints to be models for their own lives and ask the saints to pray for them. The candidates reflect on the meaning of their Baptismal name or choose the name of a saint who represents the type of Catholic they want to be. The name they choose is the name they will be anointed with by the bishop during the Confirmation Mass. Our candidates share the saint name they chose in a project of their choosing: power point presentation, essay, skit, or other creative way. Please visit the Hall of Saints in the Parish Activity Center during next week s Coffee Sunday. Fran Boylan-Holy Spirit Food Pantry If you qualify for a free turkey at one of the local supermarkets that you will not be using, please consider donating it to the Food Pantry. You can call the Food Pantry at (914) or drop it off at the Rectory Office between 9am and 4pm, Monday thru Friday. Come take part in a discussion that will deepen your experience of Christmas. With our Lord s guidance and your efforts, the Run was a great success and a true act of His love. 5 Giving Tree The stars with gift requests from the less fortunate in our community will be on the Giving Tree next weekend and waiting for you! Please be sure to leave your name and phone number on the sign out sheets for the stars you take. All the families and individuals whose names are on the tree are referred to our Parish by The Fran Boylan (Holy Spirit) Food Pantry, Social Services and Hudson River Health Care and are not being assisted by any other group. This is a wonderful tradition for our Parish. Please participate and make a difference in their lives. All gifts must be returned wrapped and with the star securely attached no later than 1:00 PM on Sunday December 3 rd.
