PRAYER INTENTION For our Parishioners READINGS FOR NEXT SUNDAY Jeremiah 33: Thessalonians 3:12-4:2 Luke 1:26-38 Christ the King What does it mean to say Christ is King? Do we give him our Sundays only, or the whole week? Set aside ten minutes for God. Offer Him the events of your day and say, Yours will be done. No servant can serve two masters. He will either hate one and love the other, or be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and [the world] (Luke 16:13). Growing in Faith Page Two

From the Desk of Fr. John I hope that everyone had a good Thanksgiving Day and that you were able to spend time with family and friends around some good food.

3 From the Desk of Fr. John I hope that everyone had a good Thanksgiving Day and that you were able to spend time with family and friends around some good food. I want to also thank all the First and Third Graders of the Religious Ed Program who participated in our grade level Mass last weekend. It is always great to be with you. Next weekend, we begin the Season of Advent as we prepare for Christmas. While this is an extraordinarily busy time for us, I encourage all to also take time to prepare spiritually. In all, may the preparations and activities we do give honor and praise to the Son who is born in Bethlehem. Also, next Sunday, we will welcome the Adult Candidates of the RCIA, as we recognize and celebrate their journey towards the reception of the Sacraments at Easter in We will conduct a special ceremony for them at the 12 Noon Mass after the homily. Please keep our candidates in your daily prayers. Lastly, in August of 2019 I will complete my first term of six years here at Holy Spirit (that was quick!!!). In keeping with Archdiocesan policy, an evaluation of the parish will be conducted. Parishioners and staff who wish to do so may write letters with their own comments about our parish and the pastoral leadership of the parish. Please address your letters to: The Office of Priest Personnel, Archdiocese of New York 1011 First Avenue New York, New York Letters should be received no later than December 31, God Bless Fr. John There are still a few spaces left for our Youth Group trip to the City. We will celebrate Mass at St. Patrick s Cathedral, tour Rockefeller Center and enjoy Lunch at Carmine s Italian Restaurant. Join us for Christmas in the City on Sunday, December 9 th. Departure is from Cortlandt Train Station at 7:15am. Reservation forms are available in the Church and at the Rectory Office and also follows in this bulletin. Space is limited so get your reservation in as soon as possible. We remind everyone, that if you have not done so already, to please make your pledge this week. We are attempting to finish the major portion of our campaign before we get to close to the Christmas Season. We need everyone to participate if we are to reach our goal. 4 Giving Tree The stars with gift requests from the less fortunate in our community are on the Giving Tree! Please be sure to leave your name and phone number on the sign out sheets for the stars you take. All the families and individuals whose names are on the tree are referred to our Parish by The Fran Boylan (Holy Spirit) Food Pantry, Social Services and Hudson River Health Care and are not being assisted by any other group. This is a wonderful tradition for our Parish. Please participate and make a difference in their lives. You can call the Food Pantry at (914) or drop it off at the Rectory Office between 9am and 4pm, Monday thru Friday. WE NEED YOUR HELP Did you know that once a week a parishioner takes care of the linens that we use on our Altar? We would love to have a few more people help out. If you can launder and press the Altar Linens once every two months please call the Rectory Office. Thank you so much for your help. Giving thanks for God s bounty Last week we gathered with friends or family to give thanks for all the blessings we have received throughout the year. Yet the gifts don t just come once a year, so try these tips for living gratitude all year: Say it out loud. Saying the words out loud will keep you from taking your blessings for granted. Let words of gratitude be the first ones you speak in the morning and the last ones on your lips at night. Avoid complaining. How can we be thankful and still gripe when things don t go our way? When you find yourself feeling stressed or depressed, stop and list five blessings instead. Don t shop or buy. Try putting off what you don t absolutely need. Instead, clean out a closet, drawer, or storage area you have been ignoring and rediscover the good things you already have. Live thankfully. Each day, look for small blessings and pleasures. Noticing them will help you remember that God makes all things well and deserves our thanks. Growing in Faith Page Four
