1 Church of the Holy Spirit 1969 Crompond Road, Cortlandt Manor, NY OUR PARISH MISSION STATEMENT Holy Spirit is a Eucharistic Community, formed by and in the Holy Spirit, to enable our Community to come closer to God and to each other. MASS Saturday: 5:00pm Sunday: 8:00am, 10:00am, 12:00noon Weekdays (Monday - Saturday): 9:00am PENANCE Saturday: 4:00 pm And by Appointment BAPTISM Baptisms are scheduled for 1:30pm on specific Sundays. Catechesis for parents is required. Please call the Parish Office to register for Catechesis. Baptisms may only be scheduled after attending Catechesis. MARRIAGE You must meet with a priest at least one year beforehand to schedule the date and time of your wedding. The wedding date is finalized only by meeting with the priest. SACRAMENT OF THE SICK Those who are sick, homebound, or in the hospital are a vital part of our Parish family. 3 From Fr. John I got to spend a wonderful Sunday last week in the city with 24 of our young people and 12 adults. Our day began with a visit to the Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center. We then went to celebrate Mass at St. Patrick s Cathedral. The celebrant was Cardinal Dolan who personally greeted our group as he began Mass and announced our presence to the congregation during the homily. Most special was that two of our young people got to bring up the gifts. I thank the Cardinal and the Cathedral Staff for their gracious welcome. After lunch at the Hard Rock Café, we spent the afternoon walking and shopping around the city. Thanks to all who participated. It was great to be with you I would like to remind everyone that this year, Reconciliation Monday is on Monday, December 18 th in the Church from 4-8pm. The priests of the parish will be available during these hours for the Sacrament of Reconciliation. You are invited to stop by the Church and receive the Sacrament. When John the Baptist speaks of preparing a highway for our God he is referring to the road that leads to our soul. By receiving the Sacrament, we allow Jesus clear passage into our lives. It is one of the best gifts we can give ourselves this Christmas. We encourage everyone to join us. Recently, we updated our website and we invite everyone to take a look around. The website address remains the same and is holyspirit-cortlandtmanor.org. While we continue to work on it, the basics are all up and running, including a digital version of our weekly bulletin, links to sites of interest, and the daily readings for Mass. Eventually, the website will include links to social media where you can like us on Facebook and/or follow us on Twitter. Incredibly the Christmas Season begins next Sunday night, Christmas Eve with Masses at 4pm, 6pm and 12 Midnight. Of course, we have all the usual Masses on Sunday morning at 8am, 10am and 12Noon. Below I share with you a simple prayer for the Season. God Bless Fr. John An Advent Prayer In this Advent of expectation draw us together in unity, that our praise and worship might echo in these walls and also through our lives. In this Advent of expectation draw us together in mission, that the hope within might be the song we sing, and the melody of our lives. Christmas cards with intention envelopes will be available this weekend and next. Fill out the Christmas Spiritual Bouquet envelope and return it with your stipend (offering) enclosed. You may place it in the collection basket or drop it at the Parish Office. All Christmas Masses will be offered for these intentions. Holiday advice The holiday season is an exciting time but it can also be a time when money worries, family worries, and every kind of worry intrudes. Instead, try to follow this advice from St. Paul, Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is gracious, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things, (Philippians 4:8). Growing in Faith SENIOR GATHERING And a good time was had by all!! A Christmas gathering was held on Friday, December 8 th in the Parish Activity Center. Holiday pastries, mulled cider, coffee and tea were enjoyed. A Charlie Brown tree was transformed into a beautiful tree of donated mittens, gloves hats and scarves by the seniors. All was given to the Giving Tree to be distributed to needy families in our area. Holiday donated crafts were raffled off. Thanks to all who joined us and donated something warm for our tree. Our next meeting will be Friday, January 8 th in the Parish Activity Center. Birthright of Peekskill is now open every morning, plus Tuesday evenings and Thursday afternoons!
