1 Do you need a Sacrament? Confirmation? First Communion? Do you want to become Catholic or be married in the Church? Programs begin Fall Sign-up Now! Saint Mary s provides a variety of programs to help you fully enter the Catholic Church. If you need one sacrament or several, please call our parish offices at to assist you on your journey! We have both adult and children s programs to meet your needs! Frequently Asked Questions I would like to join the Catholic Church. I think I was baptized, but am not sure. What kind of information do I need? If your church kept records, you ll need to obtain a copy of your baptismal record a certificate or a letter from the pastor there. Because locating records can be difficult or time-consuming, you should try to obtain these records as early in the process as possible. If your church or did not keep records or no longer exists, we can make other arrangements. I ve been divorced but am not remarried. Can I become Catholic? Absolutely. I ve been divorced and am remarried, and my spouse is divorced and remarried. Can I become Catholic? Yes! Please contact the parish for information on how to proceed. When do you meet? Saint Mary s is flexible to meet the needs of our parishioners. As a general practice, unbaptized attend the beginning of the Noon Mass on Sunday and then are dismissed immediately after the homily. Baptized attend Tuesday evening sessions from 7:00pm to 8:30pm twice a month. Children may meet during religious education classes! My schedule doesn t permit me to attend your sessions. What should I do? There are a couple of options. We will be able to work it out! How old should a person be to attend RCIA? Technically, old enough to understand what is being taught. For children of catechetical age (ages 7 to 14), we can provide catechists for their grade level. Depending on their level of maturity and interests, older teens (age 15 or above) would join the adult group. Follow the Spirit! Contact us to help you build your relationship with God!

3 Religious Education Program A few updates and reminders as we wind down the year: Registration forms will not be handed out at the final class. We will update you on the process for registering for classes for in the next week. We will be sending an home and posting the information here and in the bulletin. Formal Religious Education should begin in Grade 1 and continue through Confirmation in Grade 9. Faith formation deepens each year, so that by the time our students are preparing for Confirmation, they will have gained the knowledge needed for them to live as true disciples of Christ. We are looking for volunteers for next year Being a catechist gives you the opportunity to deepen your own faith and live out your call to share the good news of Jesus with the children of our parish. If you are nervous about doing it alone ask a friend and you can teach together as a team! First Holy Communions: Here at St. Mary's, we have so many wonderful reasons to be joyful as we celebrate the reception of First Holy Communion with 82 of our young people. For the next three weekends, we will share in the celebration of these boys and girls coming to the table of the Lord's Supper for the first time to receive Jesus' Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity. As we watch these young people, filled with joy and excitement for their First Holy Communion, we welcome them to the table of the Lord s Supper. They have heard the voice of Jesus, the Good Shepherd calling them to this table so that they can be nourished by His Body and Blood. Let us pray for them and their families, that they may always follow Jesus, the Good Shepherd. 5 I continue my focus on the Acts of the Apostles. You can find my previous article by going to and clicking on the link titled liturgical notes. Today's reading begins with the same verse as last week's reading (Acts 2:14a). It recounts the second half of Peter's discourse on the day of Pentecost. This use of a speech as a means of conveying a theological perspective is a technique used continuously by the writer the books of Luke and Acts. It is also helpful to remember to whom Peter is speaking. He is not speaking to a church which knows and believes in the story of Christ s death and resurrection. He speaking to a group of Jews in Jerusalem. These are probably some of the same people who shouted "Hosanna" when Jesus entered the city and "Crucify Him" when he was taken before Pilate. Even those who did not turn on Jesus were probably dazed and confused after the events that had taken place over the previous 2 months. I heard this described by Fr. Jim Chern as he describes the two travelers on the road to Emmaus who meet Jesus in their depression - on their roads of sadness, in the midst of their confusion. You can find this excellent homily at Blessed to be serving at St. Mary s P.S.: Please consider being part of our social concerns ministry as we begin the process of working with the archdiocese to help resettle a refugee family to NJ.
