2 FROM THE PASTOR S DESK A Joyous and Blessed Easter to you all! Today we celebrate what it means to be a Christian, we rejoice because Our Dear Lord has kept His promise and has risen from the dead. This is the high point of the Church year and so our festivity rightly overflows our celebrations in Church and flows into our homes and the hearts of our family and friends. The church gave us forty days to fast but now she gives us fifty days to celebrate. The Easter Season is a glorious time to revel in God s goodness to us; and as we contemplate everything coming to new life in Spring, let us also contemplate our soul s coming to new life in the risen Christ. Have a wonderful Easter Day and a wonderful Easter Season! God is so good to us, Alleluia! Fr. Kunz P.S. A big THANK YOU! to everyone who sacrificed to make the ceremonies of Holy Week and Easter so beautiful, especially our Altar Servers, the Altar Sodality who cleaned church, everyone who donated for the Easter flowers and in a particular way to Carol our Organist and the members of the Choir! They put in serious effort and time to preparing the music and I think they did an outstanding job! Well done! GOSPEL MEDITATION - ENCOURAGE DEEPER UNDERSTANDING OF SCRIPTURE The first light of Easter dawn had begun to creep over the horizon. The steadfast women from Friday's gory events are returning again to the body of their Lord. "Who will roll back the stone for us from the entrance to the tomb?" How quickly we return to mundane concerns and how thoroughly God wants to surprise us! Imagine the utter shock upon seeing the stone rolled away, the tomb empty, and a stranger clothed in light proclaiming the impossible. "You seek Jesus of Nazareth, the crucified. He has been raised; he is not here." He is risen indeed and the world will never be the same. We know from other Gospel passages that Mary Magdalene made haste to the disciples t proclaim the Good News. We know that Peter and John rushed to the tomb to see for themselves. We know that the wonder and awe of the Resurrection permeated the lives of the apostles until their own dying day. Can we comprehend the utterly world-changing nature of this surprise? The historical reanimation of a dead man is of no real value to us. But we know that Easter Sunday is so much more. By the Resurrection of Jesus, life has triumphed over death for us all. The gates of heaven are opened and the treasury of graces is poured out upon the here and now. This Resurrection Day, let us draw near, amazed yet unafraid, to the risen Christ. Let us recall the words of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, "Jesus is not a character from the past. He lives, and he walks before us as one who is alive, he calls us to follow him, the living one, and in this way to discover for ourselves the path of life" (Easter Vigil, April 15, 2006). EASTER PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING Good and gracious heavenly Father, we come before you on this Easter Sunday with full and grateful hearts for the gift of the Paschal Mystery that you showed us in the life, death, and resurrection of your Son, our brother by adoption, Jesus Christ. Bless us and all those who profess belief in your saving love. Bless also those who have yet to profess belief in you. You are God for all. We ask all this in Christ's name. Amen.

6 WE PRAY FOR OUR LOVED ONES May God Provide Health and Comfort to: April Anna Dueker, Sharon Wilson, Velma Papin, Sharon Schuermann, Wendy Peters, John Vogelgesang, Lori Mayer and Sandy Stecher. March Janet Lindemann, Kitren Canida, Joann Haynes, Josh Garrett, and John Evans. February Joseph Dubbs, Claude Friend, Gordon Friend, Sharon Havin, Mary Jane Miller, and Carolyn Williams. EVERYDAY STEWARDSHIP - RECOGNIZE GOD IN YOUR ORDINARY MOMENTS When I was younger and growing up in Alexandria, VA, I remember one year it actually snowed on Easter. It was crazy to see it that late in the year. We got up and dressed in our best spring clothes so we could venture into the snow on our way to Easter. I remember thinking that the day did not feel much like Easter. It was hard to really get into the mood of God making all things new on a day so cold and full of flurries. If I am honest, I think we rushed home after just so we could get on warm pajamas and just watch TV for the rest of the day, snuggled up on the couch with blankets. It might as well have been a Sunday in January. This year the odds are against it snowing on Easter where I live here in North Carolina. However, for far too many it might as well snow. To them, Easter has nothing to do with the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, new life, or anything of the sort. It is just another Sunday. Some of them don't care and never think of Jesus or God on any Sunday of the year. But for others, it will not feel like Easter because they have been forgotten. On this day they will sit at home, just like they sit every single day of their lives. They might be poor, elderly, disabled, or simply alone. On this day, there is no resurrection celebration because they have no real experience of the joy of life. This is where good Everyday Stewards can make a difference. In the midst of buying candy and decorating eggs for baskets and buying new clothes to wear to Easter, find someone who needs to experience the power of Easter. Don't tell them Jesus rose from them, but show them. Instead of the cold of isolation, bring to them the warmth of new life. PLEASE PRAY FOR OUR MILITARY MEMBERS Please remember in your prayers the following military personnel: SGT Drew Alsop US Army, Erin Arent US Navy, Jeff Arent U.S. Marines, Jason Burton US Navy, PFC Timothy Colton US Army Scott Daugherty, Coty DeClue USAF, LT COL Daniel Dubbs US Marines, SGT Cameron Earley US Army, SGT Tyler Earley US Army, PFC Cory Matthew Ershen US Army, Clay Fisher US Marines, Cory Gargus US Marines, SPC Tyler Grogan US Army, Matthew Martin US Navy, Logan Moore USAF, Monty Perkins, And Andrew Snodgrass US Navy. Think of what is above, not of what is on earth. - COLOSSIANS 3:2 On this day we thank God for His Son, Jesus, who died and rose for us. We celebrate and sing Alleluia. Let s try to keep the joy of this Easter season in our hearts throughout the year! Pray daily and listen for how He is calling each of us to joyfully use our gifts to fulfill His salvation plan. -Tracy Earl Welliver, MTS 6 Welcome to St. Clare Catholic Church
