2 FROM THE PASTOR S DESK All es this weekend will celebrate the Feast of St. Clare..... A Prayer to St. Clare of Assisi, for Intercession August 11th God of mercy, You inspired Saint Clare with the love of poverty. By the help of her prayers may we follow Christ in poverty of spirit and come to the joyful vision of Your glory in the Kingdom of heaven. We ask this through Our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, Who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen. A Prayer to St. Clare of Assisi, for Healing O Blessed Saint Clare, your life shines like a beacon and cast its light down the ages of the Church to guide the way of Christ. Look with compassion on the poor and humble who call on you for help. As you bow before your Eucharistic Lord in Heaven, speak to Him of my afflicted body and my broken spirit. Ask Him to heal me and to wash away my sins in His precious Blood. Great Servant of Christ, remember the needs of my family and all those I pray for. Defend us from everything that would threaten our Holy Catholic faith. Hear the cry of the poor and make it a song of intercession, rising from your poor heart to the Eucharistic Heart of Jesus, our Healer, Our Savior, and our Lord. Amen. GOSPEL MEDITATION - ENCOURAGE DEEPER UNDERSTANDING OF SCRIPTURE Have you ever approached a hushed group and were certain they were talking about you? It's an uncomfortable feeling to catch people murmuring about what you did, said, or didn't do. It breeds division and exclusion. In today's Gospel, Jesus invites us to just the opposite. The reading opens with the crowds "murmuring" their doubts about Jesus after he has proclaimed himself the Bread of Life. "Is this not Jesus, the son of Joseph? how can he say 'I have come down from heaven'?" In his response, Jesus brings up the Israelites and the manna God brought them in the desert. If you turn back to the story in Exodus, you'll see another similar word: murmuring. As the going got tough, the Israelites doubted Moses and God's plan to protect and care for them as a chosen people. Here, Jesus proposes a difficult theological concept. Jesus himself is "the living bread" and "flesh for the life of the world." This is not an exclusive concept. "Everyone who listens to my Father and learns from him comes to me." Why? Because "the Father who sent me draw[s] him." The next time you're at, take a few moments to watch the communion line. Young and old, families and singles, diverse races and cultures and stories? we are all drawn to the Eucharistic table. Catholic doctrine may require faith, but it is a faith possible for anyone who seeks truth. Christianity does not hide behind locked doors in an exclusive clubhouse, whispering behind the backs of nonbelievers. Jesus compels us to share the love of God the Father for his children, that we one day be joined with Him and "live forever." 2 Welcome to St. Clare Catholic Church

3 PARISH NEWS & ANNOUNCEMENTS Latin Schedule Change The Latin has been changed to the First Friday of each month beginning September 7th at. The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Holy Day of Obligation Wednesday, August 15th es: & 7:00 pm We have special pricing! BINGO NIGHT TUESDAY, August 14th Doors open at 5:00 pm Bingo starts 7:00 pm (KC Hall) The Bingo Buy-In is a 9-On for $15.00 Additional 9-On s are $10.00 each Additional 6-On s are $5.00 each (must purchase one 9-On first) The Cover-All 50/50 Sheet is $2.00 each See You There. A great night of fun! Picnic Update We are in the count-down week for our Picnic! Thank you to everyone who has volunteered to work and those that have already starting prepping for the picnic. This past week the basket stand volunteers were working hard on preparing baskets. Their goal is 130 baskets not sure how many were made but they are sure to please. While at the picnic, take a moment or two and stop by the stand. The baskets they put together are amazing. Diane Obermark, Helen Frick, Ashley Gibson, Allison Juergens, Rita Davis, and Jenny Charboneau are part of this team that just makes it happen! A lot of work goes into preparing for the picnic. Special thanks goes to Karen Myers and Tammy Alsop for helping with the calls for desserts and coleslaw dressing. If you didn t get a call, we can still use your donations. The coleslaw recipe is in back of church and produces a quart jar of dressing. The desserts are also a wonderful end to a great dinner of chicken and beef. Please make sure your dessert donations don t need refrigeration. And, we thank the Brueggemann families and the Collins families for volunteering (AGAIN) to prepare the beef and fry the chicken. We always have people in line waiting for this great meal. The Hagedorns are again taking on the sandwich stand. This includes ordering their meat/fish, cleaning up the stand, and then staffing it all day. And,... If you haven t had one of the fish sandwiches you are missing a treat! A special thank you to Jim Ellert who always helps by ordering the huge amounts of food and paper products needed plus takes the evening shift in the kitchen. The morning shift is under the supervision of Sherry Reed and her family/friends. This shift gets us off to a great start and lunch time! The fancy stand will be ready and stocked. The Hecks and Cikovics work all throughout the year to have items for you to purchase. Dave Heck makes sure the grounds including the fancy stand is ready to go! He has made improvements to the building/grounds by adding concrete all around the building. We can all remember when it rained beforehand and how much of a mess it would produce. Thank you Dave! Bingo will be held in front of school as always. It takes many workers to help with this very popular event. We are already getting calls about it. Thank you to John & Jackie Daugherty for taking care of this event each year. They could probably write a book about the things that happen at bingo! A best seller for sure. These are just some of the awesome volunteers who help make our picnic. Thank you to everyone who helps! It wouldn t happen without you! If you can help, please just give us a call at parish office at It is not too late! Don t forget to return your raffle tickets and maybe get your friends and neighbors to take a chance. LIVE THE LITURGY - INSPIRATION FOR THE WEEK Life can be confusing, and the demands and challenges of everyday life can easily cloud our vision. We can become tired. Because of all of the energy needed to manage our day-to-day routines, our spiritual lives can get neglected. Anger, apathy, bitterness, and competition readily distort our relationships with one another and with God. We are asked to imitate God and to put love, compassion, kindness, forgiveness, and gentleness over all things. We need to develop a strong life of prayer in order to bring balance to our lives and to realize who we really are.
