2 Page 2 FROM THE PASTOR Sun Mon Tue Wed Thu Fri Sat Shine on Sunny. Shine on! Nine years ago, we brought her home in a crate. We never imagined the home she would establish in our hearts. I am reminded of the words of Genesis this morning, God made the wild animals, each according to its kind. And it was so. God made the wild animals according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all the creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good. Then God said, Let us make human beings in our image (Genesis 1:25) On Thursday night, July 21, Sunny, our nine year old golden retriever laid her head down in Marsha s palm and went to sleep. And our hearts are broken.the creative hand of our Heavenly Father has gently touched every single animal! He is the God who makes the cat purr, the bird sing, the cow moo, the pig oink, the snake hisss.and yes, a lively golden smile from ear to ear for anyone who would take a moment to scratch her belly. The order of creation reminds us that the calicos and chimpanzees, the giraffes and the goldens were given life---just moments before man was given a breath of life. Is it any wonder why our pets seem so much like people to us? Should it surprise us when they hang their head when they are disciplined, or wag their tail when they are praised? Almost human. Almost. Thursday night we lost a member of our family. We will pour over pictures and video. We will decide what to do with her toys and her bowl. We will cherish the memories of play and fun. Yes, I will regret the days I told her to Go, play in traffic! For all of us who have welcomed animals into our home and our hearts.we will give thanks. Give thanks for the Lord of all creation who made each one according to it s kind.sunny, you were one of a kind. Unique. Loved. Celebrated. Precious. I m not surprised remember who made you! As my daughter, Jennifer says, Shine on, Sunny, Shine on. ` 1 2 Regular Sunday Services AM Worship & Holy Communion 9:45 AM Adult Education 10:30 AM Worship & Holy Communion 7 8 6:30pm Council 2:30am Service Board Meets Parrish Ed. & Fall Classes Begin 22 6:30 Parish Education :30pm Choir Practice Youth Catch the Spirit Dinner Pastor Matt in Chicago :30am Parish Ed Teachers Peace to you. For those who shared your stories, you made me feel that I was OK. For those who made food, you eased my concerns and welcomed my family. For those who helped with the memorial service, you listened to my heart. The sorrow would have been so much more difficult to bear without all of you. May God bless your service to Him. Page 9

5 Page 8 Service Board News CHURCH COUNCIL Advent s Servicer Board continues to collect different items in support of various organizations and ministries. These items include plastic grocery bags, eye glasses (to include reading glasses), food items for the GA food pantry (especially canned meats and women's feminine hygiene products), toiletries, popular paperback books, and winter coats. Anything you can help with is appreciated by the recipients. Donations can be placed on the Service Board table outside the adult Sunday school room or the wheel barrow in the Narthex. Our Lutheran ld Relief project for summer and fall 2011 is filled school bags. The complete list is posted on the collection boxes in the Narthex and Sunday school rooms. The back-to-school sales make this an affordable project to fill as many bags as we can collect. Please consider picking up a few extra items as you shop for your child. This year we will again sponsor an Angle Tree for children up to 12 years of age. This is a fun event and gives far more joy to the givers than words can describe. The registration begins in October, the tree goes up in November, ad the presents are distributed in December. Gap food pantry continues to operate in site of the heat and little or no air conditioning in the building. On an average your Service Board volunteers 50 hours a month. A special thank you to our faithful volunteers: Donna Meisner, Tracy Torrence, Gary Lawrence, Shirley man, Donna Carlson and Pastor Matt. A huge THAK YOU goes out to Zachary and Brittany Hubble who collected four big boxes of canned food. The shelves were stocked at the beginning of the morning and two hours later they were nearly empty. All our youth are wonderful and these two made a special effort to help others, truly demonstrating what Jesus would do to help the poor, needy and homeless.
