2 PASTORS ARTICLE 5 But the angel said to the women, Do not be afraid; I know that you are looking for Jesus who was crucified. 6 He is not here; for he has been raised, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay. Matthew 28:5-6 This Lenten season we have heard stories from various Biblical Women of the promise: Eve, Sarah, Rebekah, Rahab and Mary. Each week one of our truly gifted women of Advent shared their gift of portraying these women through powerful monologues. Thank you to Diana Perry, Lynn Reed, Jackie Voss, Ingrid Zamecnik, and Samantha Jimenez. Each portrayal was deeply moving and helped us see that God has made, and continues to make, promises to each of God s faithful followers. The ultimate promises from God will be seen in the weeks to come when we gather together for Holy Week beginning with Palm Sunday, April 9th. During this week we will have opportunities to gather together for worship. On Palm Sunday we will process in the sanctuary together waving our Palms and then hear a dramatic passion reading of the Gospel. April 13 th at 7pm is Maundy Thursday where we experience the institution of Holy Communion and the act of service through a time of foot washing. Then on April 14 th at 7pm we have a Tenebrae Good Friday service where you are invited to bring your Lenten nails and participate in the service with the nailing of the cross. We will hear again Jesus seven last words as he breathed his last on the cross for all the world. Then at our normal worship time, Sunday April 16 th at 9:30am, we will gather together to celebrate the glorious resurrection of our Lord on Easter Sunday. After service we will have an Easter Feaster breakfast with all the fixings and the children will have an opportunity to have an Easter Egg Hunt. Easter Sunday is the climax of our Christian faith where we hear the ultimate promise that because Jesus lives, we shall live also. Thanks be to God! We are people of the promise. We are promised that we are not alone. We are promised that God is with us. We are promised that death is not the end. We are promised that we are children of God. We are promised that because of Jesus Christ, we have eternal life through our Lord. What a moving Lenten season this has been and we look forward to joining together as people of the promise. Come and See, Come and Experience, Come and Worship our Risen Lord. Christ has risen! He Has Risen Indeed! Alleluia! In Christ s Love, Pastor Jason and Pastor Andrea

6 SUMMER CAMP We have two summer camp opportunities for youth grades The first opportunity is for elementary age youth. For the first time, camp Lutheranch, is opening up for a groundbreakers camp. These youth that attend, will be the first group to have a camp experience at Lutheranch. Here is some information about the camp: June 18-23, 2017 Groundbreakers (completed grades 1-5) Cost: $ (Includes all meals, housing, and activities) Caring, college-age counselors share faith and fun and keep kids safe! Campers will be grouped by age for activities: Enjoy games, songs, skits, campfires, and meaningful worship Swim and enjoy water activities in Lake Stender Enjoy team-building and cabin bonding on our Group Interaction Course All this and more during the very first summer of programming at Lutheranch You can begin to register your youth online at: novusway.campbrainregistration.com/ The second opportunity for camp this summer is Affirm for 6-12 th graders. Affirm is a Summer Youth Event of the ELCA Southeastern Synod. Affirm nurtures faith, equips youth leaders for today and tomorrow, and trains youth in discipleship skills. Affirm is for grades 6th-12 as well as trains college freshman and sophomores for youth ministry in a unit called YAYMI. Affirm is based on 10 different age appropriate leadership and discipleship units. Each of these units are staffed by small group leaders and a pair of unit directors. Cost is $425 per person for food, housing, and programming. You can begin to register your youth online at: Our hope is to have all youth registered by April 15 th. The costs for the events will be offset through fundraising and money already raised in the youth fund. We hope you will consider attending one of these life changing, faith enriching opportunities.

10 Advocacy and Earth Day with Kids The Advocacy Ministry is inviting kids and adults to come work on some projects in honor of Earth Day. We will meet from noon to about 2 and lunch will be provided. We will have some gardening projects that can be done and taken home and will be building the Little Free Pantry. Check out the article about the Little Free Pantry below. We will have a sign-up sheet at sign-up central so we can be sure to have enough supplies. All our welcome so bring a friend! Little Free Pantry Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God. Hebrews 13:16 At Advent, we live out this call in many of our service ministry efforts; GAP Ministries, the Angel Trees, and the Holiday food baskets readily come to mind. The Advocacy Ministry along with the Service Ministry is sponsoring another outreach to the needy strangers, a Little Free Pantry. This was described in an article in a recent issue of "Living Lutheran", The concept came from a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Fayetteville, Arkansas, who modified the concept of the Little Free Libraries to make an accessible-to-all pantry based on "Take one if you need, leave one if you can". Advent will build the pantry on Saturday, April 22, as part of the Advocacy meeting on Earth Day as one of the projects with the kids. As such, we will incorporate as much re-used or scrap material as we can. We will complete (hopefully) the pantry on Sunday after the Sunday School hour and stock it once the paint is dry. We ask that the congregation keep an eye on the pantry out near the front door, and bring in items to help keep it stocked.

11 Advent Book Club The Idiot Girls Action Adventure Club by Laurie Notaro is the book of the month for April. Meeting: Monday, April 24th at 7:30pm Hostess: Gayle Ricklefs Discussion Leader: Ingrid Zamecnik Can you knit or crochet? Can you make fleece hats Would you be interested in making hats for the homeless at Gap? Each year, homemade caps are given to the homeless in November at GAP. We can have many caps ready if we start early and work all year. Work at your own pace! Teach someone else how to knit or crochet! Make it a summer project with your family! If you would like more information, please see Nancy Tokarska. If you would like to donate yarn for this project, please leave on the Service Ministry table in the hallway across from the Adult Sunday School classroom. If you need yarn, please see Jackie Voss or Nancy Tokarska. Thank you!

12 Food Pantry Request for March The requested item of the month for the GAP Food Pantry is single serving fruit packs. They can help balance a diet when you are stretching pennies, do not need refrigeration and are portable. Best of all, they taste great! Don t forget to bring your clean, used bags from the grocery store for the Food Pantry. They can be left in the large labeled box at the Service Ministry table. If you are would like to make a cash donation for the food item of the month, please see Jackie Voss or the Pastors. Thank you for your continued support! Other GAP Needs Remember that we always accept donations of Bibles (especially Spanish), eyeglasses and small toiletries (as provided at hotels) that can be bagged for the homeless. We also are accepting donations of large size clothing for men and women who are homeless. Needed items are shirts, pants, slacks, shoes and coats. At this time, we are only accepting adult sizes. These items can be left on the Service Ministry Table. Thank you to Ms Heather and Ms Angie s Sunday School Class for bagging toiletries as a Service Project. We were able to fill two boxes for GAP with assorted toiletries at the Service Ministry workday. Also many thanks to Kenny Odeen for transporting the completed project to GAP!

13 Advent Children s Service Project All children 13 years old and younger are invited to attend the Advent Children s Service Project. This project is a little different. In addition to serving, we also need to Recognize and Thank others for their service. In preparation for our special project, we will have some special guests who will talk about how they have served. After refreshments, we will work on our surprise project! When: April 29th from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM Where: Advent Lutheran Church Sponsored by: Service Ministry of Advent Lutheran Church Please don t miss this special event! It is something we haven t done before! Don t get left out! Look for a special way to honor your mother or a special woman in your life! The Service Ministry Mothers Day Project is coming!
