2 The Light of St. John s February, 2017 Therefore, humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you. 1 Peter 5:6-7 All of us at various times in our lives struggle with worry. We worry over about our health, our finances, our family, cares of the past, and cares of the future. Worrying robs us of our peace, and it probably shortens our lives. And the things we usually worry about are things over which we have no control anyway or things that will never materialize. But it is probably natural for people to worry, especially when our focus is on our circumstances instead of God. God must have anticipated certain events in our lives would cause us to become worry-warts. So God continually reminds us in the Bible not to worry with passages such as, Fear not, for I am with thee. (Isaiah 41:10), and Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. (Philippians 4:6). When we worry, it is a sign that we are not fully trusting God to see us through our circumstances. The Apostle Peter s advice is to cast all our cares upon God, knowing that he cares for us. You and I don t have to carry the burden of our worries. We know that certain events in our lives may cause us anxiety, but we don t have to allow those anxieties to rob us of our joy. God is willing to release us from our cares, and take our concerns upon Himself. We often forget just how much God cares for us. When you go through a difficult time, it is nice to know that someone cares about what you are going through. When a friend comes to you and tells you they are praying for you, it helps to know you have a friend who cares. But what if that friend said, I have decided that you can give me that burden. I know how to fix it, and once you give it to me, I will go to work on it, and you can relax while I am working on it for you. That is the manner that God would like you to place your burdens on Him. When we cast our cares on God, we are acknowledging that it s His responsibility to care for us. We often forget that God is painting on a large canvas. He sees the big picture. We only see what s happening to us at the moment. We must always remember that God is completely sovereign, and He will not allow anything to happen to us that isn t first filtered through His divine screen of protection. It is really liberating to give a problem to God in our prayers, and to say God, I am turning this over to you. I trust you to work this out in your perfect timing, and I refuse to worry about it anymore. Remember that there is no problem you face that is too small to give to God. The Bible teaches that He knows about the little sparrow that falls to the ground, and how much more you are worth to God than the sparrow. (Matthew 10:29). When you find yourself worrying, turn that problem over to God. Cast your cares upon Him, and He will sustain you. Blessings, Pastor Terry

The Color Run will be held on Saturday, March 11th and will be the same as last year utilizing both the church and the fire department with runners/walkers going up and down FM 111. We will still be having the Kids' Zone and the Kids' 1-Mile Run. We will need volunteers to throw color at the runners, help with parking, work the Kids' Zone, registration table, and pass out water.
