1 The Lord s Day March 6, 2016 Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice insofar as you share Christ's sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed. - 1 Peter 4:12-13 Prelude Welcome & Visitor Information Please sign and pass the Friendship Register Opening Music Brethren We Have Met to Worship -Mike Honeycutt, Molly Moore, Trent Thomas, & Kat Thomas *Call to Worship Psalm 95:2b-5 Let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise! For the Lord is a great God, and a great King above all gods. In his hand are the depths of the earth; the heights of the mountains are his also. The sea is his, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land. *Hymn of Approach In Christ Alone In Christ alone my hope is found; He is my light, my strength, my song; This cornerstone, this solid ground, Firm through the fiercest drought and storm. What heights of love, what depths of peace, When fears are stilled, when strivings cease! My comforter, my all in all Here in the love of Christ I stand. (Next Page)
2 In Christ alone, Who took on flesh, Fullness of God in helpless babe! This gift of love and righteousness, Scorned by the ones He came to save. Till on that cross as Jesus died, The wrath of God was satisfied; For ev'ry sin on Him was laid Here in the death of Christ I live. There in the ground His body lay, Light of the world by darkness slain; Then bursting forth in glorious day, Up from the grave He rose again! And as He stands in victory, Sin's curse has lost its grip on me; For I am His and He is mine Bought with the precious blood of Christ. No guilt in life, no fear in death This is the pow'r of Christ in me; From life's first cry to final breath, Jesus commands my destiny. No pow'r of hell, no scheme of man, Can ever pluck me from His hand; Till He returns or calls me home Here in the pow'r of Christ I'll stand. New Members Vows and Baptism Mark, Gwen, Kaitlyn, & Clay Lambert H.G. & Sharon Troutman Jean Workman Prayer of Adoration and Confession Assurance of Pardon (see 2 Timothy 1:13) Romans 8:1-2 There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death. *Affirmation of Faith Heidelberg Catechism Question 37 Q. In the Apostle s Creed, we say that Christ suffered. What do you understand by the word suffered? A. That during his whole life on earth, but especially at the end, Christ sustained in body and soul the anger of God against the sin of the whole human race. This he did in order that, by his suffering as the only atoning sacrifice, he might set us free, body and soul, from eternal condemnation, and gain for us God s grace, righteousness, and eternal life.

And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: for Thine is the Kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen. Why do we worship the way we do at Carolina? That's a great question! Each church is different in it's style, song selection, and order of service. At Carolina Presbyterian Church, our goal is to do everything in worship in a manner that glorifies God and edifies our congregation. The elders, in conjunction with the deacons and worship committee, have spent many months over the last year praying about what worship should look like at Carolina. Below is a philosophy of worship statement, formed by our church leaders. What you will find below shouldn't be new or shocking to anyone who's been here for a while: it's actually what we've already been doing for most of the last year. However, we thought it would be helpful to put into words what we are trying to accomplish, for the sake of good communication. As always, please come and talk with any church leader if you have questions about this. We are thrilled to join with you in the worship of our Lord together! Carolina PCA Philosophy of Worship: At Carolina Presbyterian Church, we desire to worship God in a manner that is both glorifying to God and edifying to our congregation. To glorify God, we seek to worship him with excellence, with an attitude of reverence (considering God s holiness) and celebration (considering God s grace), with a Christ-centered focus rooted in reformed theology and founded on the word of God. To edify our congregation, we seek to worship God with some stylistic variation that reflects some of the preferences of our multi-generational church and community. We seek to employ these different styles in a way that promotes love and unity within the same worship service. West Stanly Christian Ministries Food Pantry Donations of any non-perishable food items are appreciated. A donation box for the WSCM Food Pantry is located outside the church office.

Communion Sunday Sunday, March 13th Next week, March 13th we have the privilege of participating in the Lord s Supper at the close of the worship service. Jesus gave the Lord s Supper as a GIFT to the church: it is a way of REMEMBERING the amazing, sacrificial love of Christ and it s a way of EXPERIENCING Christ. We encourage you to look ahead to next week with excitement and reflection. Excitement: because the Lord s Supper truly is a gift to us it nourishes us spiritually, much as food nourishes the body physically. Reflection: because scripture encourages us to take the Lord s Supper seriously to meditate on the death of Christ and to confess our sins before the Lord. Benevolence Offering In association with the service of the Lord's Supper, we will receive a Benevolence offering at the end of next week's worship service. This will be for the sole purpose of giving relief to persons in financial crisis. The fund will be handled by the deacons. A Deacon will stand at each door and if you are desiring to respond to the Lord's Supper with an offering, you will simply drop yours in the plate. This isn't a replacement for your tithe of course, it is an additional voluntary offering. 268 Youth Lock In March 18, 7:30pm - March 19, 8:30am at Carolina Presbyterian Church Jr. High and Sr. High boys and girls You are INVITED.
