1 The Lord s Day February 4, 2018 Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice insofar as you share Christ's sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed. 1 Peter 4:12-13 Prelude Welcome & Visitor Information Opening Music Heaven Came Down - Choir *Call to Worship Psalm 96:1-2 Oh sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth! Sing to the Lord, bless his name; tell of his salvation from day to day. *Hymn of Approach No. 521 My Hope Is Built on Nothing Less Prayer of Adoration and Confession Assurance of Pardon Romans 5:1 Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. *Affirmation of Faith The Apostles Creed I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church*, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. *The universal church
2 *Hymn of Faith Blessed Be Your Name (Ushers come forward on last verse) Blessed be Your name in the land that is plentiful Where Your streams of abundance flow Blessed be Your name And blessed be Your name when I'm found in the desert place Though I walk through the wilderness Blessed be Your name Every blessing You pour out I'll turn back to praise And when the darkness closes in, Lord still I will say Blessed be Your name Blessed be Your glorious name Blessed be Your name when the sun's shining down on me When the world's "all as it should be" Blessed be Your name And blessed be Your name on the road marked with suffering Though there's pain in the offering Blessed be Your name Every blessing You pour out I'll turn back to praise And when the darkness closes in, Lord still I will say Blessed be Your name Blessed be Your glorious name You give and take away You give and take away My heart will choose to say Lord, blessed be Your name (2X) Blessed be Your name Blessed be Your glorious name(2x) Prayer of Dedication & Presentation of Our Tithes & Offerings Offertory Just a Little Talk with Jesus -Special Music Ensemble (Children ages 4 years to 2nd grade may be dismissed to Children s Church. All children will be escorted back to the sanctuary by their teachers at the end of the sermon.) *Doxology - No. 731 Praise God from whom all blessings flow; Praise Him, all creatures here below: Praise Him above, ye heav nly host: Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen. Pastoral Prayer & The Lord s Prayer Our Father, which art in heaven; Hallowed be Thy name. Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: for Thine is the Kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
3 Reading From the Old Testament Psalm 46:1-3 Pew Bible Page: 471 (OT) Reading From the New Testament Acts 6:8-15 Pew Bible Page: 914 (NT) Sermon *Hymn of Preparation All the poor and powerless And all the lost and lonely And all the thieves will come confess And know that You are holy And know that You are holy And all will sing out hallelujah And we will cry out hallelujah All the hearts who are content And all who feel unworthy And all who hurt with nothing left Will know that You are holy And all will sing out hallelujah And we will cry out hallelujah And all will sing out hallelujah And we will cry out hallelujah Service of the Lord s Table *Closing Hymn Success Through Suffering Through suffering, we reflect Christ. - Rev. David Yoran All The Poor And Powerless Because He Lives God sent His Son they called Him Jesus; He came to love, heal and forgive. He lived and died to buy my pardon; An empty grave is there to prove my Savior lives. Because He lives I can face tomorrow; Because He lives, all fear is gone. Because I know He holds the future, And life is worth the living just because He lives. How sweet to hold a newborn baby, And feel the pride and joy he gives; But greater still the calm assurance; This child can face uncertain days because He lives. Because He lives I can face tomorrow; Because He lives, all fear is gone. Because I know He holds the future, And life is worth the living just because He lives. And then one day I ll cross the river; I ll fight life s final war with pain. And then, as death gives way to victory, I ll see the lights of glory and I ll know He reigns. Because He lives I can face tomorrow; Because He lives, all fear is gone. Because I know He holds the future, And life is worth the living just because He lives. *Benediction *Threefold Amen *Postlude *The congregation stands Shout it Go on and scream it from the mountains Go on and tell it to the masses That He is God Shout it Go on and scream it from the mountains Go on and tell it to the masses That He is God And we will sing out hallelujah And we will cry out hallelujah We will sing out hallelujah And shout

5 Announcements Elders On Call for February 4th-10th Shane Everts & Gary Harwood Deacons On Call for February Brantley Whitley & Jonathan Hartsell Hearing Assistance Available If you need hearing assistance this morning please see one of our officers located at the back of the Sanctuary. Missionary of the Week: Roger & Laura Dye (Family Life Global) A lifetime of missionary work has prepared Roger Dye for this next phase of ministry as Assistant to the Director of Hispanic Ministries with Family Life Global. Through sixteen years of church planting with Mission to the World in Chile, God led the Dyes to pursue biblical marriage education for church leaders throughout Latin America. The Dyes have four children: Deanna (1993), Isaac (1995), Hudson (2000), and Suzy Grace (2003). They currently reside in Winnsboro, SC, ministering throughout Latin America as well as the Hispanic communities of NC, SC, GA, and TN. The desire of their heart is to train church leaders to develop local marriage ministries that will reverse the tsunami of marriage crises throughout Latin America. Why do we worship the way we do at Carolina? That's a great question! Each church is different in it's style, song selection, and order of service. At Carolina Presbyterian Church, our goal is to do everything in worship in a manner that glorifies God and edifies our congregation. Below is our worship philosophy which attempts to capture these key values. As always, please come and talk with any church leader if you have questions about this. We are thrilled to join with you in the worship of our Lord together! Carolina PCA Philosophy of Worship: At Carolina Presbyterian Church, we desire to worship God in a manner that is both glorifying to God and edifying to our congregation. To glorify God, we seek to worship him with excellence, with an attitude of reverence (considering God s holiness) and celebration (considering God s grace), with a Christcentered focus rooted in reformed theology and founded on the word of God. To edify our congregation, we seek to worship God with some stylistic variation that reflects some of the preferences of our multi-generational church and community. We seek to employ these different styles in a way that promotes love and unity within the same worship service. IMPORTANT NOTICE! Beginning today, February 4th, all church entrance doors will be locked at 10:45am, with exception of the main sanctuary door. If you arrive after 10:45am, please enter the building using the main sanctuary door as it will remain unlocked during the morning service. Thank you. BENEVOLENCE OFFERING In association with the service of the Lord's Supper, we will receive a Benevolence offering at the end of today s worship service. This will be for the sole purpose of giving relief to persons in financial crisis. The fund will be handled by the deacons. A deacon will stand at each door and if you are desiring to respond to the Lord's Supper with an offering, you will simply drop yours in the plate. This isn't a replacement for your tithe of course, it is an additional voluntary offering.
