PRAYER CORNER With Pat Barbour The world of the psalmist--of about l000 B.C.--has given way to the global village of A.D Advances in communication and transportation have radically altered the way people live. Distances that would have taken David days to traverse can now be covered by car in hours... by plane in minutes. Where once message delivery took weeks, you can now pick up the phone and speak with someone half a world away. Thanks to technology, much has changed. But two things remain the same: the speed with which you can reach God in prayer (Psalm 120) and the need for safety as you travel (Psalm 121). Every time you buckle up your seat belt today, remind yourself that "the Lord will watch over your coming and going." (121:8). And every time you dial a phone number today, let the first ring remind you that "I call on the Lord in my distress, and he answers me. (120). When you pray, do you give God instructions, or do you report for duty? --My Daily Walk For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son John 3:16 2

Adult Ministries The Adult Ministries are already collecting money for the Pastor s Cake. The Cake will be auctioned off at the Ida Spence Spaghetti Dinner November 7, Please see Joy Hamilton, if you have any questions or would like to donate. Women In Mission IDA SPENCE - The Women in Mission will be collecting items for Ida Spence according to the needs. From now until July we will be helping Students going back to school (see list for supplies needed) and from now until October we will collect laundry detergent and bleach. Thank you for all the Flip-flop donations, we are sending over 125 pairs to Ida Spence. RED BIRD MISSION We will be collecting Labels for Education and Box Top s for Education. 4 From the Erlanger United Methodist Men Hi Folks. Mark your calendars. The Ice Cream Social will be Sunday, July 19, 2015 after the church service. Tickets are available from any UM Man or from the church office. Tickets are $7.00 and you get the ice cream with toppings, BBQ sandwich, cole slaw, chips and drinks. Thank you. Come to Gold Star Chili at 10 Kenton Lands in Erlanger, KY, June 15 th, 2015 from 10:00 am 11:00 pm. We made $49.65 for missions at the event in April. Thank you. Canned goods update for the United Christian Volunteers. Thru May 26, 2015, 1,750 food items have been delivered. Emphasis in June 2015 is on toiletries/food items. Our goal for 2015 is 4,000 food items. There are many folks in the local area that can t afford enough food for their families. Your support has gone a long way in helping this cause. Thank you. Whatever you bring will be greatly appreciated. We will be going to the Florence Freedom Game June 19, We will meet at the Frisch s on Dream Street at 6 pm and eat, then go to game, and stay for the Fireworks will be after the game. 10 STEWARDSHIP MOMENT - Cain and Abel Read Genesis 4:1-7 While Abel brought several choice lambs from the best of his flock. The Lord accepted Abel and his offering, but he did not accept Cain and his offering. This made Cain very angry and dejected Genesis 4:5 It s so easy to fall into the habit of giving God our leftovers. We manage to give above and beyond a tithe at our favorite eateries, but the thought of giving 10% to God about sends us into apoplexy! It feels like a burden under such circumstances, something that rates right up there with taxes. It s meant, however, to be an act of worship. When Cain brings his offering to the Lord there is no sense that there is any act of gratitude on Cain s part. It is perfunctory, as if he feels obligated, yet without any sense of joy associated with it. But Abel, says the Genesis author, brought fat portions from some of the firstborn of his flock. Abel brought his best. Whether it s a tithe of our time, our money, our spiritual gifts, or our witness, we are called to bring our best to the Lord not out of a feeling of if I have to, but with great thanksgiving. God of heaven and earth, all that we have is yours. May our tithes be offered with an attitude of gratitude and worship towards you alone. Through Jesus the Christ we pray. Amen. 11 Our Annual Conference will be held this year June 8-11 at the Sloan Convention Center in Bowling Green, KY. This year, we will be electing delegates to our Jurisdictional and General Conferences which will happen in the spring and summer of Every year at Annual Conference we celebrate the ministry of United Methodist Churches and Institutions across the state. Our colleges, mission outreaches (such as Ida Spence), our Wesley Foundations and camping programs all report in on what is happening and how our ministries are making a difference for Jesus Christ. Each year we ordain new pastors and see a few retire from active service as well. Of course, the yearly pastoral appointments to each church are made official at Annual Conference. It used to be you didn t know who your pastor would be until the appointment was read at the closing session of Conference. That is no longer true (thank the Lord!). We know much earlier in the spring (and the pastoral appointment at Erlanger will not change this year!) Each year we report on finances and other administrative issues. At this conference, we will be talking more about restructuring the district boundaries. Last year we approved reducing the number of districts from 12 to 9. Our district will pick up several counties. The new Northern Kentucky District will include Trimble, Carroll, Owen, Gallatin, Grant, Boone, Kenton, Campbell, Pendleton, Harrison, Bracken, Robertson, Mason, Fleming and Nicholas Counties. The new district lines are set to take effect in August of this year. Many interesting things are learned, seen and shared during Annual Conference. Please keep this week in your prayers.
