1 october 2010 A Note from the Senior Warden: Dear Fellow Parishioners~ I hope this printing of the Ridge Runner finds all of you well and looking forward to fall. It has been a busy month for the church and the mission council. The Rev d d Rue Hazel visited with us on Sunday, September 19 and spoke to the congregation about giving the Search Committee the tools to proceed with a Vicar Search. These tools are both financial and supportive. A parish telephone tree has been put in place and the mission council will serve as the main branch in case of any type of church or community emergency. Primarily this is for any church closing due to inclimate weather. The mission council has been and will continue to be very busy preparing for the search of our new vicar. Please keep the Church of the Ridge and the mission council in your prayers as we embark on this new journey. A living portfolio gives a snap shot of us while the parish profile gives an in depth look into our congregation. The parish profile will be given to serious candidates who are possibilities as our vicar. A Prayer as we Renew our Vicar Search Almighty God, giver of every good gift: Look graciously on your Church, and so guide the minds of those who shall choose a vicar for this parish, that we may receive a faithful pastor, who will care for your people and equip us for our ministries; through Jesus Christ our Lord. 2 York Place As in past years, we will be donating new and gently used suitcases to the children of York Place shortly after Thanksgiving. Since finding out that children often arrive there with all their earthly possessions carried in trash bags (not the message we wish to send about their self worth!), we have helped to make sure that when children leave York Place they do so with dignity and luggage! Please bring any suitcases or other luggage to Church on any Sunday, and Scotty or Carol Scott will be happy to pick it up. After a great response last year on our wreath and garland sales, we are selling again this year. Each and everyone of us can sell to ourselves, our neighbors, our coworkers and our friends. This year we will also be offering the direct delivery package. That way someone can order and have it shipped directly to their home or office or send it as a gift. This year our leaders are Catherine Brice and Gloria Turner Please call them with any questions. Sales packets are available in the Narthex of each church. We will be selling the whole month of October packets are due back by Sunday, October 31st. Delivery will be the 1st week of December. Adult We are continuing our weekly sessions throughout October. Our topic is the Book of Daniel, and we have study guides for all! Anyone who is interested, please join us at the Church Office in Trenton, Tuesday evenings starting at 7:00pm. Or if you prefer, join us first for informal dinner, discussion, and Episcopal beverages at the La Fogata Restaurant on Augusta Road in Edgefield, between 5:30pm and 6:00pm. Scotty Scott at robtmscott@aol.com, or phone him any time at Submitted by: Scotty Scott 10th Annual Blessing of the Animals The 10th Annual Blessing of the Animals, hosted by the Episcopal Church of the Ridge, will be Sunday afternoon, October 24th at 3pm at Our Saviour Episcopal Church, Trenton. The blessing gives us a chance to celebrate the feast of St. Francis of Assisi and to express our gratitude both to the animals in our care and to God for the gift of animals. We are very pleased to have The Reverend Scotty Nead officiate this special ceremony. Your pets must be on leashes, or in crates and you can come on horseback! This meaningful event is open to everyone and each year our attendance has increased. Bring a lawn chair and expect barking, howling, hissing in all, great fun for the animals who bring us so much enjoyment. In past years, we have has dogs, cats, birds, burros and of course, horses to participate. Please spread the word to all of your pet loving friends! Treats will be served for the creatures and owners. This year s plate offering will be donated for pet food at our local Food Banks. If owners can feed and keep their beloved pets at home, it prevents shelters and rescue organizations like All God s Creatures from having to find them homes. Submitted by: Beth Byrd Page 2

The churches in the town of Ridge Spring have come together to provide a service which brings all of God s people together in one location to honor Our Lord and Savior. The churches represented are Ridge Hill Baptist, Ridge Spring Baptist, Young Second Baptist, Ridge Spring United Methodist, and Grace Church of the Episcopal Church of the Ridge. The service is planned for Sunday, October 24, 2010 at 8:00 am in the Ridge Spring Civic Center. Make plans for you and your family to attend this service. For more information call Lavern Berry at or Kevin Yon at Nursery Help Needed We have 7 Sundays left in this year that need a Nursery Keeper. Please see, call or Sarah to sign up. Having a nursery has been a great asset even if it is not always used. Thank you to those who have graciously given their time. Open Sundays October 24 & 31 November 14 & 21 Food Bank Thank you for continuing to support the Food Bank Outreach Ministry! It is easy to participate, when you go to the store pick up a few extra items (canned goods, dry goods and any non-perishable food items, no items packed in glass, please) keep it in your car and then deliver to one of our 3 churches. You will be surprised at how this one simple step makes you experience the light of God during the week. As fall approaches, our food banks are in need of soups and stews for the winter months. We made food donations to the Johnston Food Bank on August 17th and 31st and to the Saluda Food Bank on August 17th. In August, we received $ in monetary donations and the money was divided between the 2 food banks and $20.00 cash which was used to buy food. If you wish to make a monetary donation, please make your check payable to Church of the Ridge and write food bank in the memo line or for cash donations, please place your money in one of the Food Bank Envelopes provided in the narthex or pews at each church.
