Adult Forum and Art Institute Tour August 12 and 28, As part of our 125th year celebration, St. Chrysostom s Church is offering two programs in August to focus on the paintings by John Singer Sargent at the Art Institute. On August 12th, our multi-talented fellow parishioner, David Williams, will bring his Art Institute presentation about the painter s life and work to the Adult Forum at 10 p.m. in the Guild Room. On August 28th, David will lead a tour of the exhibition itself, at the museum under the auspices of The Women of St. Chrysostom s. The tour will begin at 10:30 a.m. Additional information on tickets and how to RSVP will be forthcoming. This is a rare opportunity to study this important American painter in depth, as well as a chance to envision the life of the people who built Chicago and this church in By accepting David s offer to present these two programs, our celebration committee is making the masterpieces available not only to those who must choose one presentation or another because of time constraints but also to those lucky parishioners who can attend both.

2 Intercessory prayer at Saint Chrysostom s In the news there has been a great deal of discussion of suicide, domestic violence and mental health. Please know that Saint Chrysostom s is here is for you. If you or someone you know is struggling, please feel free to contact our clergy or the church office. Every Tuesday at 9:30 AM, Rev. Jihan meets with a small group from the Church and Day School to pray for the needs and concerns of our church, school, local community and world. This is called intercessory prayer. An intercessor is one who prays on behalf of others. The term may indicate one who leads the prayers of the people, which are prayers of intercession (BCP, pp ). Please allow us to pray for you. Should you have a prayer request, please call or the church office ( , Lydia@saintc.org), or contact any of our clergy members (wes@saintc.org, jihan@saintc.org, larry@saintc.org). We are of course always open to the public, but this will be a highly promoted opportunity to reach a broader audience. For other volunteer opportunities and information on how to get involved, turn to page Donations Needed! Donations of hygiene products are also greatly welcome, as are books and toys. As an added benefit, gifts such as a charitable gift annuity can guarantee an attractive rate of return for life, ad well as a tax deduction. The Good Shepherd s Society was created to honor our parishioners who have thoughtfully designated St. Chrysostom s Church as a recipient of a gift in their wills to living trusts, as a beneficiary of a retirement fund, life insurance policy, or gift annuity. We remain grateful to many Good Shepherds and invite you to consider including St. Chrysostom s Church in your estate plan as well. 6 The Campaign for St. Chrysostom s Church and Day School Considering a gift in support of the Campaign for St. Chrysostom s Church and Day School? Why not make a charitable distribution from your Individual Retirement Account? How It Works If you are 70½ or older, you may instruct your plan administrator to make a direct transfer of up to $100,000 to St. Chrysostom s Episcopal Church (federal id# ). Benefits Your gift is transferred directly to St. Chrysostom s; since you do not receive the funds, they are not included in your gross income (thus no income-tax charitable deduction is allowed for the transfer). Your gift will count towards your minimum distribution. Questions? Please call Fran Caan, Advancement Director at 312/ or fran@saintc.org 6
