And we, too, are accompanied by You as we walk along the road, and as we sit in our homes. Open the Scriptures to us day by day, we pray, that we may learn from You. This is God's House, so you and we, too, are His guests. Together we have come to hear His word, and to grow in faith and love to motivate us in our walk with Christ. THIS MORNING WE CELEBRATE HOLY COMMUNION in which our Lord offers us His true body and blood for the forgiveness of our sins and the strengthening of our faith. By partaking of this Sacrament together, we confess our unity in faith and are drawn closer to one another and to the Lord. If you are a visitor, not belonging to the Lutheran Church-Canada, and wish to commune, please speak with the pastor before the service. Anyone is welcome to come to the Altar for a blessing, please simply cross your arms across your chest and the Elders will know how to respond. THE NURSERY is available for times that children are restless, and is equipped with a sound system to enable parents to continue worshipping. LARGE PRINT HYMNS are available for your use. Please pick one up from the tables at the back of the sanctuary, or ask an usher for a copy. CHILDREN S BULLETINS, crayons, scrap paper and busy bags are available from the bookshelves by the sanctuary doors for children to use during worship. Family Focus: OUR WORSHIP IS FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY! We gather as a family in Christ, from the youngest to the oldest, sharing in God s blessings of forgiveness, life and salvation, which leads us to respond with thankfulness and praise. Children grow into worship by being in worship, and by the example and encouragement of their parents and church family. Their presence is an encouragement to all of us! Parents, watch the bulletin for Kids in the Divine Service to help you teach your children about our worship, or for our monthly Good News for Families, our encouragement to you as you raise your children in the Christian faith. IN SUNDAY SCHOOL THIS WEEK students studied The Fall of Jericho. We are reminded that God is our mighty fortress who delivers us from the false walls of our sin and saves us in the true Joshua, (Jesus) that we might become and remain His people. Ask students, What did the people of Jericho think their wall (fortress) would do for them? What does God our Fortress do for us?

MARTIN: Third Sunday of Easter Luke 24:13 35 The apostles, too, wondered at this, so that the Lord said to them: Ought not Christ to have suffered and thus to enter into His glory? (Luke 24:26). And He set this forth through all the prophets, as this very thing is also clear in all the prophets. For this He opened their understanding that thus they might understand the Scriptures. MISSION OF THE MONTH: Lutheran Church Canada Seminaries Jesus bids us to pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out labourers into his field. Your offering this month helps Concordia Lutheran Theological Seminary in St. Catharines, ON and Concordia Lutheran Seminary Edmonton in the training and preparation of those who will be labourers in His harvest field. Join us on Friday, May 5, at 6:30 pm as a guest from Creation Ministries International (CMI) speaks on these topics. All youth and adults are invited to come and bring a friend. Donations to CMI will be accepted to help with the cost of the event. 5 CAMEROON MISSION TRIP: Plans have begun to put together an 8 person team to go to Cameroon, to help the Kuhns in an LBT mission project. Watch for more information, and think about being involved! The Preschool Classes for both weeks and the Kindergarten class for Week 2 are full. Volunteers are still needed, contact Deaconess Miriam or Pastor Eric to find out how you can help. We are blessed through the people who are serving as callers please welcome them into your home, and keep them in your prayers. YOU ARE WELCOME TO JOIN Ujamaa Grandmas Thursday, May 4 at 1 pm. UJAMAA GRANDMAS is a group of over 500 Calgary women that is part of the Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign of the Stephen Lewis Foundation, working to address the consequences of the HIV/AIDS pandemic in sub-saharan Africa. They are committed to raising awareness and mobilizing funds for community-based organizations that support African grandmothers and the children in their care. You will hear from Megan Karges, the SLF Grandmothers Campaign rep from Toronto, and Eunice, one of the African grandmothers. UKRAINIAN EGG DECORATING, MAY 13 TH. Unfortunately the April 8th session had to be rescheduled but we have a new date. Learn Pysanky, the Ukrainian tradition of decorating eggs, from Jean Richardson on Saturday, May 13 at 1:30 pm. All wax, dyes, and eggs will be supplied. There is no cost for this workshop, just bring your enthusiasm. There is a sign-up sheet on the Fellowship bulletin board. For information, please contact Heather Sommers. PART-TIME PRESCHOOL TEACHING ASSISTANT NEEDED. A paid parttime teaching assistant is needed in our preschool for the school year on Thursday afternoons. It would entail working with Betty Ann in the classroom from September June. Please speak with Betty Ann for more information. (Phone or school@foothillslutheran.com) LUTHERAN HOSPITAL MINISTRIES Southern Alberta s 20 th annual Walk/Run for Love fundraiser is May 6 th. We will meet at Faith Lutheran Church at 8:30 am for a continental breakfast then walk or run a 5 km course through Confederation Park. 6 FOOD BANK - Nine FLC members contributed their time and abilities (and in Guy's case some major muscle power) to the Calgary Food Bank on Monday evening. They worked on the assembly line along with eight other volunteers packing food hampers. In two hours they processed 16,000 lbs of food, enough to feed 980 people! Usually, there are 30 people on the conveyor line, so the supervisors were impressed that the job got done! Thank you to everyone who participated. It's amazing what a group can do in two hours. MAY 7 TH AT NOON - Please join us to serve our neighbors around the church by cleaning up the common areas nearby. Many hands make light work! Bring a change of clothes and shoes, work gloves, sunglasses and a hat. If you have an FLC t-shirt please wear it! T-shirts are still for sale, and we now have XL and XXL sizes. Mark 12:31 The second commandment is this: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than this. APRIL 30 TH - We will begin taking orders for Flowers. All proceeds will go to support the Calgary Women's Emergency Shelter where mothers and their children can seek a safe haven in times of difficulty. Flowers will be presold April 30 th and May 7 th and waiting at the church for you on May 14 th. There will also be a few for purchase on Mother's Day. Purchase early so you don't miss out, and plan to be with mom at church as part of your Mother's Day celebration! Proverbs 6:20-21 My son keep your father's commands and do not forsake your mother's teaching. Bind them upon your heart forever and fasten them around your neck. May BLOOD DONOR CHALLENGE - To allow more flexibility, we are challenging everyone (who is physically able) to donate blood during these two weeks. You can choose the date and the place that works for you. A list of clinics is available by googling Canadian Blood Services or at blood.ca. You may want to encourage a family member or friend to join you. This time frame is great timing for those who donated February 4 th as it's safe to donate again. Please sign a paper blood droplet on the 50 for fifty bulletin board letting us know you donated. Blood, it s in you to give!
