Our Lord offers us His true body and blood for the forgiveness of our sins and the strengthening of our faith. By partaking of this Sacrament together, we confess our unity in faith and are drawn closer to one another and to the Lord. If you are a visitor, not belonging to the Lutheran Church- Canada, and wish to commune, please speak with the pastor before Wednesday s service. THE NURSERY is available for times that children are restless, and is equipped with a sound system to enable parents to continue worshipping. Because some of our children and parents have severe nut allergies, please keep the nursery a nut-free zone. LARGE PRINT HYMNS AND SERVICE are available for your use. Please pick up a copy from the tables at the back of the sanctuary, or ask an usher for a copy. CHILDREN S BULLETINS, crayons, scrap paper and busy bags are available on the bookshelves by the sanctuary doors for children to use during worship.

MARTIN - SIXTEENTH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST Mark 7: (24 30) I confess that I have deserved something more terrible. Therefore be merciful to me. If thou dost not want me to be an heir, see to it that I remain a servant (Luke 15:19). Indeed, as the Canaanite woman says, I do not refuse to be a dog in Thy house so that I can at least eat the crumbs which chance to fall to the ground and otherwise are wasted (Matt. 15:27). The miracle of healing the paralytic confirms that Jesus, the Son of Man, has authority on earth to forgive sins, and it confirms what the Son of Man chiefly came to do: deliver us and all believers from sin, death, and the power of the devil. Consider discussing, In addition to healing the paralyzed man, what else does Jesus tell him? How has Jesus healed us from our sickness of sin? They are an independent mission society, but work in partnership with Lutheran Church Canada, seeking to enhance our efforts to reach out with the Gospel. Your gift helps with this wonderful work! PRESCHOOL REGISTRATION FOR FALL: Foothills Lutheran Christian Preschool is accepting registrations for the Sept June 2019 school year. Registration packages may be obtained on the table outside our preschool room (room 5 on the walkout level) or by printing them from our website at Once forms are fully completed, they may be submitted to our preschool principal/teacher along with the registration fee and one month s tuition deposit. Betty Ann (i.e. Mrs. Chandler) would be happy to answer any questions you may have. THE B-I-B-L-E! YES, THAT S THE BOOK FOR ME! On this Rally Sunday, we are mindful of the opportunities we have to be in the study of God s Word through all ages in our Sunday School and youth studies, through our adult bible study, and so on. God speaks to us in His Word, and gives us treasures greater than anything we can imagine, and yet which we so often set aside or take for granted. You can be in that Word each Sunday morning, Tuesday mornings with LifeLight, at our Men s Breakfast Study or Ladies Saturday study; through Front to Back and a whole host of other times. You can also find bible reading guides on the welcome desk. Or ask the pastors about starting your own study group we ll be glad to help you do that! God s Word is our guide through life, our comfort in sorrow, the assurance of forgiveness in the face of our guilt and shame, and the promise of all that God has done that we may live in Him forever. We can never say it enough: be in the Word! CHILDREN S CHOIR will resume on Thursday, September 13 th at 6:00 pm in the Fireside Room. We are looking forward to having some new voices join us this fall. We learn a bit about music, learn how to use our voices, and most of all plant God s Word in our hearts through song. WE EXTEND OUR CHRISTIAN SYMPATHY and the glorious hope of the resurrection to Judy Pedersen and family, at the death of her mother. We pray that God would comfort this family with His everlasting love and comfort.

6 Our Ministry of the Week WITH SO MANY THINGS HAPPENING AROUND OUR CHURCH we can sometimes overlook, forget or even be unaware of the opportunities for service, growth and education. Our Board of Stewardship seeks to encourage our congregational members in using all that God has given us to His glory our time, our talents, our treasures. One way of doing that will be through our Ministry of the Week. Each week a different mission, service or organization will be highlighted, so that we are aware of the things happening among us, and the ways that we can be involved in them. Our Board of Stewardship starts the ministry of the week. Through efforts such as this, the Board helps us remember that God is the source of all that we have and all that we are, so that we may be faithful in using all He entrusts to us. By showing us ways of using our gifts what traditionally we have referred to as the 3 T s (Time, Talents and Treasures), we see the many ways we work together to His great glory. SILVER SAINTS: September has arrived again and as with all the FLC programs, the Silver Saints also being the 2018/2019 term. On September 12 th at 1:30 pm there will be a brief meeting followed by socializing, catching up on summer events and playing games. Hosts Ruth and Gunther have scheduled an Octoberfest noon luncheon on September 26 th at the Austrian Canadian Club, th Street NE. A sign-up sheet will be posted on the Silver Saints bulletin board. If you require a ride, make a note of it on the sheet and we will make arrangements for you. VOTERS MEETING: Please mark September 30 th in your calendars and plan to attend our next Voters meeting. Board executives, please have your information for Voters packages to the office by September 14 th. POTLUCK FELLOWSHIP All LCC Calgary Circuit congregants are invited to a Potluck Fellowship at 1:00 pm on Sunday, September 16 th, here at Foothills Lutheran Church. This event promises a chance to meet our sponsored family who are making a courageous new start in Canada. 7 UNITED IN HOLY MATRIMONY this past Friday were Warren Meyers and Sandrine Merette. May God bless them as they begin their lives together as husband and wife. Bring your family, we will have popcorn! AS STUDENTS MOVE AWAY FOR SCHOOL, or move to Calgary for their studies, we want to encourage them in their spiritual life. If you, or someone you know, is moving to another city for study, please share that with Pastor Eric. We ll try to get them connected with a local church. If you know a student moving to Calgary, let him know that, too, so we can reach out to them and invite them to join us. THE ABC DISTRICT CONVENTION will be held at Bethel Lutheran Church, Sherwood Park, AB from October 19-21, The convention workbook and other information on the convention is available at the ABC District Convention website. Pray to our gracious Lord that He will bless the work that we will do when we, as a District, formally convene in October. LIFELIGHT BIBLE STUDY--TUESDAYS AT 10:00 AM: Starting September 25 th, Pastor Eldon and Marian Ohlinger will lead another 9 week in-depth LifeLight Bible Study on 2 Corinthians. We will provide you with the necessary study materials. We meet in the fellowship hall at 10 a.m. and class ends at 11:30 a.m. The evening session will begin soon, but we are still doing a bit of planning. The study on Prayer will be on Thursday evenings, with the date to be determined. Please contact Deaconess Miriam for more information. CHRISTIAN CHILDREN S FUND: The group that sponsors Angel Cruz in Nicaragua is presently short by three sponsors.
