WE CELEBRATE HOLY COMMUNION TODAY, in which our Lord offers us His true body and blood for the forgiveness of our sins and the strengthening of our faith. By partaking of this Sacrament together, we confess our unity in faith and are drawn closer to one another and to the Lord. If you are a visitor, not belonging to the Lutheran Church-Canada, and wish to commune, please speak with the pastor before the service. Anyone is welcome to come to the Altar for a blessing, please simply cross your arms across your chest and the Elders will know how to respond. THE NURSERY is available for times that children are restless, and is equipped with a sound system to enable parents to continue worshipping. Because some of our children and parents have severe nut allergies, please keep the nursery a nut-free zone. LARGE PRINT HYMNS AND SERVICE are available for your use. The theme? Do not worry! Talk with your children about how God has provided for them. List the blessings God gives your family in this life. Then talk about the eternal and spiritual blessings that God gives through His Son, Jesus. Ask your children, What do you worry about? How has God answered that worry? Streaming audio and pod-casts at MISSION OF THE MONTH: Lutheran Bible Translators of Canada Martin Luther understood the importance of people being able to read the Word of God in their own language. That is the encouragement that motivates the word of Lutheran Bible Translators. Lutheran Bible Translators of Canada (LBTC) helps bring people to faith in Jesus Christ by making the Word of God available to those who do not yet have it in the language of their hearts. LBTC conducts linguistic research, translates the Bible, facilitates literacy, promotes Scripture use, trains indigenous people, cooperates with local governments and educators, as well as national church leaders and the local community. The work continues, as there are many languages still in need of the Word. WIRELESS LISTENING DEVICES: If you have trouble hearing the service, we do have several wireless hearing assistance devices. 5 THE ABC DISTRICT CONVENTION elected the first Regional Pastor for the West Region, which is the new name for the A-BC District. Rev. Rob Mohns was elected on the 4 th ballot. While the district exists as a corporation for the immediate future, the mission and ministry of the church is now directly related to LCC and encouraged by the Regional Pastor and the newly elected Regional Mission and Ministry Council. Our Michelle Heumann will serve on this council, and Pastor Bode was elected as the Calgary Circuit Counsellor. The convention established by-laws for the corporation, until it can be dissolved. Beyond that, there was little business before the delegates, who gathered in a spirit of cooperation to learn, to share and to elect the regional pastor. We thank our delegate, Trevor Heumann, for representing the congregation. A full report will be available when the minutes are published. PURDY S CHOCOLATE FUNDRAISER: To help support youth group trips like the 2019 National Youth Gathering in Langley, we will be selling chocolates from Purdy s, and they will be delivered in time for Christmas! Purdy s has a great selection of Christmas goodies, boxed chocolates, and sugar-free chocolate. Brochures are available on the Information Centre, or you can order online at The order/payment deadline is November 25. Orders will be available for pick up on Sunday, December 9. Thank you for your support! THE CALGARY CIRCUIT REFORMATION SERVICE will be held at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, today, October 28, 2018 at 3:00 pm. Sponsored by our Lutheran Laymen s League zone, we hope you will join with your brothers and sisters in Christ to rejoice in the heritage of the Gospel in the ministry of the Lutheran Church. Pastor Mark Lobitz will be our guest preacher for this service. OUR MINISTRY OF THE WEEK Our Board of Stewardship seeks to encourage our congregational members in using all that God has given us to His glory our time, our talents, our treasures. One way is through our Ministry of the Week. This week s highlighted ministry is the Lutheran Bible Translators of Canada LBT. As noted above, LBT focusses on Scripture translation, so that all people may read His Word in their own language. We rejoice that Pastor Mike and Kara Kuhn, along with their family, serve the Lord in this important effort.

6 OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD: Operation Christmas Child is an outreach project of Samaritan's Purse to children around the world who are poverty stricken or in war-torn countries. They send shoeboxes of hygiene, small toys and other items as well as sharing the gospel message. Shoeboxes and brochures are available on the table beside Pastor Eric s office. When you have packed your box you can leave in on the same table. DO YOU FILL IN A COMMUNION CARD? These cards help in a variety of ways. First, by reviewing the card, you are reminded of the ways that you can prepare to take the Lord s Supper in a worthy manner. They help you remember the precious gift Jesus gives us as He gives us His body and blood. When you fill them in, it also helps us know our attendance at communion, which helps in our preparing the altar, and which helps the Elders and Pastors as they minister to the needs of God s people. It only takes a moment, and it does help us help you. Please remember to fill them in each time you come to Holy Communion! WE WILL CELEBRATE ALL SAINTS SUNDAY next week. We remember, with thankful hearts, the faithful departed, who behold the glory of God in His kingdom. We also rejoice that we, through God s grace, share with that host in that communion of saints. May our remembrance assure us once again of the victory and life we have in the resurrected Jesus Christ. OUR THANKS to the Elders for their leading of our service last week. We also thank Mark Kihn for helping with Bible Study and the children s message and Todd Hennig for teaching Confirmation Class. Your service to the Lord and His people is most appreciated. Thanks also go to Mark Kihn for weeding the rock garden between the sections of the upper parking lot. Your work beautifies God s house! Thank you! OUR CATECHUMENS AND THEIR FAMILIES were treated to a wonderful meal, hosted by our Board of Fellowship as part of the celebration of their Confirmation Day. We appreciate and thank those who came out to prepare the meal and serve it to our students and families. It was an enjoyable evening! MUSTARD SEED VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY: We are starting our November off right with a service opportunity at the Mustard Seed (location: St. SE) on Tuesday, Nov. 20th from 4 to 8:30 p.m. The first nine to the sign-up sheet on the Human Care Ministry bulletin board will win this fantastic evening of fellowship and service, with additional names welcomed on the sub-list list.
