HUMAN TRAFFICKING FACTS Human Trafficking is the fastest growing crime in the United States and one where the Police and Homeland Security are asking for our help. According to the Center for Missing and Exploited Children, between 100,000 to 300,000 kids under the age of 18 are currently being exploited as victims of Human Trafficking in the U.S. The California Attorney General tells us that a Trafficker can make as much as half a million dollars a year which is creating an incentive for Traffickers from all over the world to come to California and congregate in affluent and immigrant communities like ours. Pope Francis has expressed to Catholics that the trafficking of persons is a crime against humanity and must be stopped. In order to stop it, we need to understand this issue and know what actions to take. Join us Dear Mom and Dad, I m 30 weeks old and I can cry and suck my thumb. Isn t that amazing? Please pray that my parents will not do anything worth crying over before I m born. DINING FUNDRAISERS October 15th CPK, Mission Viejo November 12th Bravo Burger, Mission Viejo December 3rd The Tap House,Mission Viejo January 7, 2014 Ruby s Diner, Mission Viejo Wednesday, October 15, p.m. Parish Center Rooms 11 & 12 Susan Patterson, author of the book How You Can Fight Human Trafficking, will be speaking for all those interested in finding out more about what one can do to fight this cruel exploitation of people. Included in the meeting will be a section on what we can do about the porn pandemic, which is driving this crime and how to protect our own children from becoming victims. Given how clever the Traffickers are at tricking kids, it is important that every parent be there. This meeting is for adults and teens 16 and older.

7 St. Kilian Catholic Church Page 7 WECOME MINISTRY MEETING Please join us for a Welcome Ministry Meeting Wednesday, October 15th 7 p.m. Parish Hall Coffee and snacks will be served. The Welcome Ministry has received strong support in its first full year of activities. At this next meeting we will talk about our success to date and discuss potential new activities to introduce for the coming year. Shepherds of CHRIST (SoC) The monthly prayer meeting for the SoC will be held on Monday, October 13 at 6:20 pm in the church. This is a special month as it was October 1917 that the miracle of the sun was observed at Fatima. Our group has prayed for Priests and Clergy since 1994 and continues this work at the request of OUR LORD. Satan will create confusion and doubt in your lives. I am longing for you, My beloved ones, to tell Me of your love. (God s Blue Book #12, p. 122) We would love to see you there. New members are WELCOME! We provide prayer booklets. This is a GREAT opportunity to place your petitions to Our Lord. Questions please call Emilie Dillingham or Ken Herberger

8 Page 8 28th Sunday in Ordinary Time Religious Education Like us on facebook.com/stkilianreligiouseducation skre@cox.net FIRST WEEK OF RELIGIOUS EDUCATION CLASSES Thanks to everyone who helped with our first week of classes. It is great to see so many children interested in learning more about our faith. We appreciate the time and effort it takes families to make Religious Education a priority in their lives. 1. Books were given to all children in Grades 1-6 who attended class the first day. Please make sure that your child s name, group number and teachers names are written in the front of their book. Books should be brought to class each week. Children will earn a trip to the Treasure Box after 6 weeks if they bring their book to class each week. 2. Please take a few minutes on the way home from class to talk to your child about the time they spent here. Direct questions like What was the Gospel story about, or what is the saint s name of their classroom might help start the conversation instead of the standard, what did you learn in class today. 3. Use the FAMILY TIME page that is sent home to spark other conversations. 4. Check your child s book each for flyers from the RE Office to keep up-to-date on activities. Information is also included in the bulletin, on our parish website and our FACEBOOK page: FAMILY TIME PAGES from BLEST ARE WE books More Catholic Family Prayers, Games and Resources at The FAMILY TIME page is sent home before the lesson is taught. It provides the family an opportunity to focus on the theme of the chapter as it relates to family life and readies the children for their catechetical experience. Here are some suggestions on how to use the ideas from these pages with your family. 1. Stick the page on your refrigerator or bulletin board at home. 2. Pick a time that works best for your family; mealtime, before or after bedtime prayers, before a favorite family TV show or activity. 3. Avoid doing what you know will make someone feel self-conscious and out-of-character. 4. Focus on QUALITY time rather than QUANTITY of time. 5. Listen a lot rather than talking a lot. 6. Pray together often. 7. ENJOY YOUR FAMILY TIME it is a precious gift...
