We are committed to responding to each other through communities and ministries of faith and love, addressing our spiritual, social and educational needs.. We believe that each of us is called to be a supportive, compassionate, and caring Christian witness in Mission Viejo, the Diocese of Orange and in the world. 2 Page 2 Second Sunday of Advent I wait with longing for the Lord, my soul waits for his word. My soul looks for the Lord more than sentinels for day break. (Psalm 130: 5-6) Waiting can drive a person crazy. Standing in that long line for those concert tickets. Watching the mailbox for that letter of acceptance. Listening for the phone call that will deliver those CAT scan results. The heart beats fast; the body twitches, restless. The urge to lose all self-control overwhelms. Then deep breathing begins. Awareness within each moment heightens and focus sharpens. The air becomes electric with longing and hope in the space between now and then. This was the experience of the night watchmen on Jerusalem's walls. They were sentries standing guard in the darkness, all heightened awareness and sharpened focus. Imagine the longing and hope with which they waited for the morning light to appear. Even more, writes the psalmist, is his wait for the Lord, and he doubles the phrase for emphasis: "My soul waits for the Lord more than the watchmen wait for the morning, more than the watchmen wait for the morning." As a season of waiting, Advent invites us to this level of focus on and awareness of Christ now, even as we long and hope for his promised coming then. It is practiced patience, which guards us against losing our minds. In other words, writes Fr. Henri Nouwen, "Waiting patiently means paying attention to what is happening right before our eyes and seeing there the first rays of God's glorious coming." Ann Primus Berends

We will meet every Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. All are welcome. For more information call Carole Grod at THE FEAST OF OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE On Friday, December 12, we will observe the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, patroness of the Americas and patroness of the Diocese of Orange. We will start the day with the traditional Mañanitas ("wee hours of the morning"), which starts at 5:00 a.m. This consists of an outdoor candlelight Rosary procession, followed by Alabanzas (songs in honor of the Virgin) led by mariachis, followed by La Misa (the Mass) and concludes with a convivencia (social) in the parish hall, where we will share hot chocolate, tamales and pan dulce. The prayers and songs will be in Spanish, but the spirit of devotion to Our Lady is universal, so all are welcome. I know our Spanish-speaking community would love to extend their hospitality to the entire parish, and would be proud to have you attend. Finding a Kidney for Rose My Mom, Rose needs your help in finding a living kidney donor. You see, Mom inherited a genetic kidney disease that rapidly destroyed her kidneys this year. She spent the better part of 2014 in and out of hospitals before her kidneys finally gave out...now she is left with only two options (1) get a kidney transplant, or (2) spend the rest of her life on dialysis. While kidney transplant is the superior quality of life choice, it can be challenging with over 83,000 people waiting ahead of her on the national kidney transplant list. Sorry to say the average wait on this list can be 5 years or more. However, there is a bright side to this scenario...over 6,000 people a year in the US donate a kidney to a person in need -through living donation a healthy person can donate one of their kidneys while they are still living. Living kidney donors are truly the Energizer Bunnies of human kindness as their donation keeps on giving a daily dose of life. To find out more about Rose and how you might be of help, please visit our website or feel free to me directly at samdefrisco@msn.com Sincerely, Joanne DeFrisco-Breen
