1 On The Line Stocking Stuffers still needed for the Valley Mission Trip and International Boys Shelter This year we need to stuff 500+ stockings. We are still in need of many more stocking stuffers, as well as gifts for the Boys Shelter! As you purchase items you can drop them off at our office as we have plenty of room to store them before the deadline on November 12. Remember to shop during holiday sales, resale shops / garage sales for gently used items, and dollar stores for great deals. Monetary donations may also be made for the purchase of items to go into the stockings by cash or check payable to San Jacinto Baptist Association at our office or via mail PO Box 1533, Baytown TX We also need volunteers to help stuff the stockings on November 15 at our office located at 1020 Birdsong in Baytown. 2 Something To Think About Randy Gilchrist, Executive Director Let me begin by saying thank you to all the association staff, churches and church members of San Jacinto Baptist Association for the privilege to serve these past ten years as the Executive Director. You blew Connie and me away with the expressions of love and support at the Annual Meeting. We look forward to seeing what God is going to do in the future. Please pray for us as we pray for you the Association that God would be honored and glorified through the ministries He has entrusted to the church. Also, we pray that God s kingdom would be enlarged and magnified as we are about His business. And we pray that each church member will grow to be Jesus to the World. Also, at the Annual Meeting we adopted four Resolutions: Resolution of Gratitude to our Host Church, Resolution on the Priority of Prayer, Resolution on the Urgency of Evangelism, and a Resolution on the Centrality of the Bible. These are included as an insert to the On the Line. On November 8 th, there will be a conference at Northway Baptist Church in Angleton Texas called Cultivate It is about Revitalization and Replanting of Churches. Make plans to have someone from your church attend. Recently, we attended church with our son and daughter-inlaw. The pastor used as his text Acts 10: It is a portion of the conversation Peter had with Cornelius and his household. The title of the message was What defines you? We allow so many things to define us that should not be defining us. Maybe it s time for us to allow Jesus Christ, who died for us, to define Who, What, Why, and How we are His people in a world opposed to Him. It s something to think about. For the Common Good Carey. D. Froelich, Associate Director for Church Enrichment ESV Psalm 136:1 Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever. 2 Give thanks to the God of gods, for his steadfast love endures forever. 3 Give thanks to the Lord of lords, for his steadfast love endures forever. 26 Give thanks to the God of heaven, for his steadfast love endures forever. Because the steadfast love of the Lord is so readily apparent, one of my mentors led our church to think of the 11 th month as a Month of Thanksgiving. Worship services were built around that theme and all of us members and staff were encouraged to take specific steps to express our gratitude to people who had blessed us during the previous year. His encouragement to do that every day to write a note, to make a call, to speak face-to-face made the season all the more meaningful. We live in a time when criticism seems to be the currency of ordinary conversation, and the overwhelming negative tone that comes from the news and other media often wins out over the words of grace and kindness that should mark our speech as followers of Christ. In every one of our churches there are pastors, staff, deacons, leaders, and others whom we see regularly, and who all could use an uplifting word. Try my pastor-friend s prescription for celebrating the big day at the end of the month: Give thanks to the Lord for the blessings those people are to you, your church, and your community. Tell them that you are grateful! ****** On Tuesday, January 8, 2019, your SJBA Staff will be leading Revelation: The Letters to the Seven Churches based on Chapters 1-3. The seminar will be from 9-12 that morning, and it will be directed to pastors and other teachers who will be leading the January Bible Study in their churches. Register through the SJBA Office At or website: www, sanjacintobaptist.com Messengers to the Southern Baptists of Texas Convention will gather at Second Baptist Church North Campus US 59, Kingwood, TX on November 12 & 13 to conduct the convention's twenty-first Annual Meeting. #SBTCAM18

5 SJBA RESOLUTIONS Resolution of Gratitude to the Host Church Whereas, the seventy-second Annual Meeting of San Jacinto Baptist Association is being hosted by Second Baptist Church, Highlands. Be it resolved, that we, the messengers and guests of San Jacinto Baptist Association, express our sincere gratitude and appreciation to Pastor Beau Rosser, the staff and members of Second Baptist Church Highlands for all the work entailed in hosting this meeting. For God is not unjust to forget your work and labor of love which you have shown toward His name, in that you have ministered to the saints, and do minister. Hebrews 6:10 Resolution on the Priority of Prayer Whereas, the world is in a state of spiritual destitution and apostasy. And, Whereas, God has ordained prayer to be the principal means of communication between mankind and Himself. And Whereas, the Word of God has commanded His people to, pray without ceasing in 1 Thessalonians 5:17. And Whereas, Jesus Christ, being our infinite example did pray before each act of Grace. Be it resolved that we, the messengers of the 72nd Annual Meeting of San Jacinto Baptist Association, do individually and corporately commit to pray for one another, to pray for our churches, and to pray for the unredeemed. And, Be it further resolved, that we pray with absolute conviction that God hears and answers prayers in His infinite and merciful will, in accordance with our obedience. And, Be it finally resolved, that we make prayer our highest priority by earnestly and fervently seeking God s favor and following His commands as it says in 2 Chronicles 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. Resolution on Urgency of Evangelism Whereas, we believe there is one and only one living and true God. He is the intelligent, spiritual and personal Being, who is the Creator, Redeemer, Preserver, and Ruler of the universe, who reveals Himself as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. And, Whereas, Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, who left Heaven to come to Earth to make provision for the redemption of every person from sin to a loving God. And Whereas Jesus Christ lived a sinless life, died on the cross and literally rose from the grave on the third day. And, Page 1
6 Resolutions (continued) Whereas the Holy Spirit convicts individuals of sin, of righteousness, and of judgement calling them to the Savior. And, Whereas the hope of mankind can only be found through faith in Jesus Christ. Scripture says, Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved." Acts 4:12. And, Whereas, God has commanded His church to speak with boldness the message of hope in Christ. Therefore, be it resolved that the churches of the San Jacinto Baptist Association, urge all followers of Christ to share the love and salvation of Jesus at every opportunity. And, Be it further resolved, that we seek every legitimate way to let the world know that forgiveness, hope, and eternal life is found in Jesus Christ. And, Finally, be it resolved that everyone is welcome to attend or contact the churches of the San Jacinto Baptist Association to learn more about Jesus Christ and His love, forgiveness, and the everlasting life He freely offers to all. As Jesus said, For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16 Resolution on Centrality of the Bible Whereas, The Holy Bible is uniquely inspired by God and is completely true and trustworthy. And, Whereas, it is supreme among all other books and is central to all San Jacinto Baptist Association beliefs, how we live our lives, and operate our churches. Therefore, be it resolved that we commend the Bible, both Old and New Testaments, to everyone as the Word of God. It is the perfect treasure of Divine instruction and God s love letter to humanity. Be it further resolved, that we read it, believe it, and live what it says. To any who read and obey the Bible - it will transform your life and your eternity. The Apostle Paul said, All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness. 2 Timothy 3:16 Be it finally resolved, that the Bible is the final say in our faith and the way we live our lives. As the old saying affirms, The Bible says it, I believe it, and that settles it! -SJBA Resolutions Committee, AD 2018 Dr. B.L. Worsham Beau Rosser David R. Brumbelow Page 2
