2 Something To Think About Randy Gilchrist, Executive Director It is time for personal confession; I like Christmas! Yes, I am one of those people who cannot wait until after Thanksgiving to begin decorating to celebrate Christmas. By the time Thanksgiving comes, most of our decorations are up and ready to go. Please understand that Thanksgiving is a very special time for our family to get together and a time for giving thanks to our Heavenly Father for all of His blessings. But then every day is a day of giving thanks to our Lord for what He has done, what He is doing, and what He will do in the days to come. My hope for you is your Thanksgiving is filled with gratitude to the Lord and much love and family time. As we approach Christmas this year and every year, in the midst of all the beauty of the lights and the joy of giving to one another let us remember the real reason for the season. It was according to God s timing that Jesus was sent to earth to be born of a virgin. That He was raised to understand and live according to Jewish law. Ultimately He completed His God given mission of paying the price for mankind s disobedience toward God by willingly sacrificing His life on our behalf that we could have a personal relationship with God through Him. May each person who reads this have a very MERRY CHRISTMAS. Lake Tomahawk News Patrick Flowers, Camp Manager Look at what s happening at Lake Tomahawk! New Evergreen Dorm For the Common Good Carey. D. Froelich, Associate Director for Church Enrichment ESV John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it 14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. Perhaps it is because the nativity has (almost) become commercialized that my favorite Christmas account is this entire report from John. To me, his account magnifies the idea that Jesus came in fulfillment of God s promise. To understand Christ as Word (Logos) and Creator and Life and Light made flesh reminds me that his birth story is simply the beginning of Jesus earthly ministry. It helps me remember that the joy of Bethlehem led to the agony of the cross and the glory of the resurrection. I pray that this Christmas season guides you to both his cradle and his throne. Please note two significant events planned in February The Pastor-Deacon Workshop originally scheduled in early November has been rescheduled on February 11. Dr. Terry Coy will be leading us in A Flight Plan for the 21 st Century and will provide help in setting a direction for the church. The Saturday morning seminar at the SJBA Mission Center will include a continental breakfast and an important time discussion for the leaders of the church. SJBA will also sponsor a Senior Life Conference on February 25 at First Baptist, Baytown. Participants will have an opportunity to choose 4 sessions from among 8 choices that address a spectrum of issues facing senior adults, their children, and caregivers. Registration for both events is through the office.
