How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?

Paul tells us that the path of becoming disciples starts with formation in the Faith: Meeting the Risen Jesus, and the learning from him the way of everlasting life. "To whom should we go?

3 Touch my side, and see April 22/23, 2017 Sunday of St. Thomas Divine Mercy Who will we, the Church, be in the future? It is that persistent Easter challenge of the Lord Jesus: "I make all things new." How will we as a Church, and we as Most Holy Redeemer parish, keep the Lord's Great Commission -- to go out into the world and tell the Good News? How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can they preach unless by Fr. Shaun they are sent? As it is written, "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!" (Romans 10:14-15 NIV) St. Paul tells us that the path of becoming disciples starts with formation in the Faith: Meeting the Risen Jesus, and the learning from him the way of everlasting life. Since the 1930s, with the advent of the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine (CCD), faith formation progressively became a "Sunday school" responsibility. Sadly, what is a family responsibility became a Church responsibility. And those who didn't come to Sunday school were often left without any formation in the Christian faith. The work of sharing the Good News, especially with young children, begins with parents and families. The parish community is called to be a resource and a help in the handing on of the faith to young children. In this jubilee year of the appearances of Our Lady at Fatima, we are reminded of the way Mary taught the 3 children how to pray, how to join themselves to the saving Sacrifice of Jesus, to intercede for others, how to be kind and generous to their neighbors. Fatima remains a school of prayer for families. It is of course stunning that to these 3 little ones, the Lord would reveal his message of mercy for our times! But then, at the heart of spreading the Gospel, Jesus always placed the children. "Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. (Matthew 18:3) Moving forward, our faith formation program needs to become more and more of a resource that helps families learn, celebrate and share their faith in the Risen Lord. The format of our middle school (Edge) and high school (LifeTeen) programs has already moved in this direction, and in the coming year we will impliment a new format for K-5 as well as an earlier (Grade 10) Confirmation program. Many of us can relate to Thomas s response to the news that the disciples had seen Jesus. We want to see for ourselves too, but we grow in faith, trusting the experience and knowledge of others. Discuss with your family the basis of each member s faith in Jesus the witness of the first disciples, the Gospels, the continuing activity of the Holy Spirit, the community of the Church. St. Pauly Mission Confirmation Clothing Project Thank you for donating your bags of clean used clothing to our St. Pauly Mission project.
