3 ...keep them in Your name...so that they may be one just as we are one. May 12-13, Gospel Reading John 17: 11(b)-19 A reading from the Holy Gospel according to John Lifting up his eyes to heaven, Jesus prayed, saying Holy Father, keep them in Your name that You have given me, so that they may be one just as we are one. When I was with them I protected them in your name that You gave me, and I guarded them, and none of them was lost except the son of destruction, in order that the Scripture might be fulfilled. But now I am coming to you. I speak this in the world so that they may share my joy completely. I gave them your word, and the world hated them, because they do not belong to the world any more than I belong to the world. I do not ask that you take them out of the world but that you keep them from the evil one. They do not belong to the world any more than I belong to the world. Consecrate them in the truth. Your word is truth. As You sent me into the world, so I send them into the world. And I consecrate myself for them, so that they also may be consecrated in truth. The Gospel of the Lord. MHR Parish Council to Establish Commissions The Parish Council is beginning work on establishing commissions (committees) to address the pastoral needs of the parish and implement parish policies, plans, and programs in response to those needs. Each commission will consist of at least one parish council member and several other parishioners as needed. The commissions will advise the parish council of their plans and activities, and the parish council may offer suggestions to them. The commissions suggested by the diocese are Spiritual Life, Family Life, Faith Development, Communications, Hospitality, and Vocations. Others may be established as needed. Developing the commissions will take place over time, beginning with the Spiritual Life and Faith Development Commissions which we hope to get together in the next couple of months so that they can be involved in planning for the fall. The Spiritual Life Commission is responsible for evaluating, planning and coordinating parish prayer and worship and promoting programs which enhance the spiritual well being of parishioners, such as retreats and prayer groups. The Faith Development Commission is responsible for addressing the educational needs of the parish community, seeking to promote opportunities for learning and faith enrichment for all ages. In addition to our faith formation program for young people and RCIA, it would help parishioners to grow in their faith through programs such as Bible study, speakers, and study of various topics related to our Catholic Faith. Anyone interested in joining one of these commissions should contact any parish council member or Joan ; jmsmola@verizon.net Sixteenth Annual Diocesan Wide Eucharistic Rosary Procession Come Celebrate the Gift of Family With Fr. As the one Roman Catholic Church in the Town of Hadley, Massachusetts, our Mission is: To be a welcoming place of worship for all. To proclaim the word of God and celebrate the sacraments. To attend to our ongoing formation in Christian living and support one another in spiritual growth. To dedicate our service to God. To recognize and support our responsibility for God s people, for spiritual and corporal works of mercy to the larger community, area and world. To celebrate our belief in the message and teachings of Jesus Christ and the Roman Catholic Church and demonstrate our appreciation for the many gifts we have received.

5 What s Happening at Most Holy Redeemer Parish ALL ARE INVITED PLEASE SIGN UP! Come Celebrate the Installation of our new Pastor, Fr. Piotr Pentecost Sunday, May 20, :30 am Reception to follow In the Parish Hall Attention: Readers and Eucharistic Ministers The Pastoral Council is sponsoring workshops for new and current Readers and Eucharistic Ministers in the evening on May 21 and June 4 from 6-8pm. All current ministers are asked to save these dates and plan to attend. The first session will offer a general explanation of the role of these ministries in the context of the liturgy. The second session will be devoted to specific training for each of them as well as updated procedures for our parish liturgies. New Readers and Eucharistic ministers are needed for our Masses. Anyone who is interested in becoming a Reader or Eucharistic Minister should contact the office or contact Joan If you have questions or concerns, it may be helpful to speak to one of the current ministers. Participation in these ministries is both a privilege and a gift as it enhances the experience of the liturgy for both the parish and the ministers. Scheduling is based on your Mass preference and availability. A diocesan sponsored course for Readers & Eucharistic Ministers is also being offered at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Granby from 6-8 pm as follows: Eucharistic Ministers: Wednesday, Thursday May 31 Ministers of Holy Communion to the Sick and Homebound: Wednesday, May 23 (pre-requisite: above 2 courses for Eucharistic Ministers) Readers: Thursday, May 24 and Thursday, May 31. Registration forms for the Granby training are available in the vestibules of the church or from the Parish Office. There will be a sign-up sheet at each of the church entrances this weekend regarding the reception for Fr. Piotr after the 10:30 a.m. Mass next week (May 20). If you are planning to attend, please write your family name and a total of how many are coming with you. This is so that enough food can be ordered. We will have finger sandwiches, fruit, cake, tea, coffee, etc. If you would like to bring an hors d oeuvre salad, or pastry, that would be welcomed. Just keep in mind that we can t use the stoves in the kitchen because they will be used by the Take & Eat Program that day. Either bring something cold or bring your special food in a crockpot. This is entirely optional. We know that Fr. Piotr will be so delighted to see a great turnout of his parishioners and friends. For more information, please contact Joan Let s show Father how much we appreciate his joyful presence here at Most Holy Redeemer! Additional Easter Flower Donations We would like to mention the Easter Flower Donation made by Julia Adams before her passing. We did not receive the envelope in time for the Easter Donation Flower List, but we want to make mention of her contribution. We also want to note that Julia supported MHR with her weekly contributions right up to the time of her death. May her soul and the souls of all the faithful departed rest in peace. Another Easter Flower donation was made by Joan and Carol Zaskey, and we wish to thank them also. Neighbor Helping Neighbor News from Hadley Food Pantry Thank you for your continued donations to the Hadley Food Pantry and to the volunteers who staff the pantry. We would also like to thank Panera Bread for their weekly donation of bread and pastry products. The Hadley Food Pantry continues to serve between 4 and 12 families each week with donations received from the parishioners of Most Holy Redeemer and the First Congregational Church. Donations of non-perishable items to help stock the pantry include cereal, crackers, pasta, canned chicken, rice, boxed potatoes, bottled juice, canned fruit, peanut butter, coffee, tea, spaghetti sauce and condiments (mayonnaise, oil, etc.) as well as toilet tissue and personal hygiene items. Monetary donations can be made by including extra cash or a check in your regular envelope and designating it for the Food Pantry. Come and visit us and see what we do and what you can do. Volunteers are always needed. The pantry is open every Sunday from 12-1 pm. Happy Mother s Day
