2 Stand Up for Justice 10th Grade RAC Trip to Washington, DC Friday, December 9 Monday, December 12 Connect with hundreds of other Jewish teens for a weekend in Washington, DC, to learn about key political and social issues and how you can change them! The L Taken Social Justice Seminar at the Religious Action Center (RAC) is always an incredible experience, culminating with a day of lobbying on Capitol Hill. The cost of the trip is $450 for all registered CSR Teens in 10th Grade. Space is limited, rs@comsynrye.org now to reserve your spot. Civil Rights Journey 11th & 12th Grade Trip to Atlanta and Alabama Thursday, November 10 Sunday, November 13 Join teens from CSR, Emanu-El, Larchmont Temple, and Chavurat Tikvah for an inspiring journey to the Deep South this Veteran s Day Weekend. We ll retrace the footsteps of Martin Luther King, Jr., meet with past and current Civil Rights Leaders, and tour historic sites. Etgar 36 will manage the trip logistics, and staff from all four congregations will chaperone. Thanks to the Jewish Education Project s Westchester Jewish Teen Learning Initiative, the subsidized cost of the trip is $700, including airfare, for all registered CSR Teens in 11th or 12th Grade. Space is limited; rs@comsynrye.org now to reserve your spot. J-Ball League Join one of the Community Synagogue of Rye basketball teams and represent us in the local J-Ball League! 4 INSPIRE THE FUTURE Madrichim - Mentoring & Teaching Track Open to Grades 8, 9, & 10 Monday nights, September 19-January 23 6:15-8:00pm including dinner February-May placement in CJL classes on Wednesdays or Saturdays Fall Training September-January Develop leadership and mentoring skills Learn to teach group and individual lessons Become a role model for the next generation Spring Placement as CJL Madrichim teaching assistants or B nai Mitzvah Mentors February-May Work as a teaching assistant in a CJL classroom Grades K-5 on Wednesdays from 4:00-5:45pm or Saturdays from 8:45-10:45am OR Mentor 6th & 7th grade students as they prepare to become B nai Mitzvah on Wednesdays from 4:00-5:45pm Put your new skills to use as you inspire younger children Continue with ongoing training and supervision J-Girls/J-Guys 6 Monday nights throughout year Bond with friends at monthly gender-based programs Explore personal identity with Moving Traditions curricula Returning Madrichim & Mentors Madrichim or B nai Mitzvah Mentors in Grades 9-12 who were previously trained may begin directly with classroom placements in September. Become a CSR Education Intern Open to Grades 11 & 12 Monday nights, September 19-May 8 6:15-8:00 pm including dinner 11th and 12th grade students may return on Monday nights as CSR Education Interns, serving as peer-leaders and mentors for younger teens. Interns may be paired with teachers to work with any of our 7th-10th grade tracks. Add this impressive item to your resume while building leadership skills and being a role model! Interns must commit to attend weekly on Monday nights for at least a semester. Contact Rabbi Frankel to apply for one of these limited spots.
5 10th Grade Confirmation 10th Grade students in any ongoing CSR Teens program are eligible to participate in our end-of-year Confirmation celebration. Confirmands will work with the clergy to prepare personal vision statements and lead the Confirmation service as you are honored for your ongoing commitment to Jewish learning. Confirmation service rehearsals will take place on Monday nights, May 15 & 22, and the Confirmation Service will be on Friday night, June 2. Social Action Sundays Grades 8-12 CSR Teens will be teaming up again this year with other local synagogues and youth groups for a series of hands-on community service events on Sunday mornings or afternoons! All teens are welcome, whether or not you are signed up for our Social Justice track. Save these dates and stay tuned for more details about each project theme, time, and location: October 16, November 6, December 18, January 22, February 12, & March 12 CSR Teen Band Grades 8-12 Our teen band is recruiting more musicians and singers to periodically perform at Shabbat services and other special events. Directed by Cantor Cooperman and professional Israeli jazz musician, Koby Hayon, the teen band is a great way to share your talents with the community! 6 COSY Youth Group COSY, short for Community Synagogue Youth, is our peer-led senior youth group. The COSY leadership team organizes an array of fun events to develop leadership skills, do Tikkun Olam, and connect with other teens in the community. Recent COSY events include Midnight Run, Habitat for Humanity, the annual shul-in overnight, Improv Night, and snow-tubing. COSY also connects you to NFTY (North American Federation of Temple Youth), giving you the opportunity to meet Jewish teens from across New York at regional events. Look out for COSY events throughout the year!
