3 Dorito Chicken and Cheese Casserole 3 cups cooked chicken, chopped (I used a rotisserie chicken) 1 cup sour cream 1 can cream of chicken soup 1 can of corn, drained 1/4 cup minced onion 2 cups cheddar cheese, shredded 1/2 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp. pepper 1/2 tsp. garlic powder 1 medium sized bag of nacho cheese Doritos, crushed Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly spray a 9x13 pan with cooking spray. Spread the bottom of the pan with half of the Doritos. Reserve one cup of cheese. Mix together remaining ingredients in a large bow. Pour chicken mixture over the Doritos. Top casserole with the remaining cheese and Doritos. Bake 30 minutes or until bubbly. Peach Dumplings Ingredients: 2 - whole large peaches Directions: 2-8 oz cans crescent rolls 2 - sticks butter 1-1/2 - cup sugar 1 - tsp vanilla cinnamon, to taste 1-12 oz can Mountain Dew Peel and pit peaches. Cut both peaches into 8 slices. Roll each peach slice in a crescent roll. Place in a 9 x 13 buttered pan. Melt butter, then add sugar and barely stir. Add vanilla, stir, and pour entire mixture over peaches. Pour Mountain Dew around the edges of the pan. Sprinkle with cinnamon and bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes. Serve with ice cream, and spoon some of the sweet sauces from the pan over the top. From Your Director of Missions I received the following in a North American Mission Board update by Bryant Wright. Nathan Finn, professor of Church History at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, says that the Moravians were part of the Pietistic movement within the Protestant Church that reacted against the dead orthodoxy among many Lutherans and Calvinists of their day. They felt what was important was preaching the gospel for the individual to be saved or born again. They were so focused on that, that they neglected doctrine. So what happened? The second and third generation Moravians of this dynamic missionary movement didn't know the basic doctrines of the faith - not from liberalism or unbelief. They just weren't taught. So the children and grandchildren lost their zeal for taking the gospel to all the world As Baptist, have we fallen into the same trap as the Moravians? This is a valuable argument for our churches to participate in the Children's Bible Drill program of the Southern Baptist Convention. It is a three year program of learning the books of the Bible, 24 memory verses each year, and 10 key passages. The verses and key passages are those that most older members would know. However, many of our young adults do not know even the books in the Bible, much less be able to quote accurately the verses found in it. As a result the church is in decline because of our failure to do what God commanded His people in Deuteronomy 4: 9, "Only take heed to thyself, and keep thy soul diligently, lest thou forget the things which thine eyes have seen, and lest they depart from thy heart all the days of thy life: but teach them thy sons, and thy sons' sons;" Baptisms are important. However, it is only a part of the Great Commission. We cannot forget the command "Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you:". Your pastor will receive a letter from the Associational Evangelism Committee about their project for this year. It will involve training of a small group of men in our association in personal evangelism. They will not only be meeting together, but going out into our communities and sharing the Gospel. While there will only be a small group going through the training, it will involve a large number of people in our association. Because, while this group is going through the training, we will be calling on people to commit to praying for these men. You will pray for them at the time they are training, while they are visiting, and for the lost people that they will be visiting. It will involve people throughout the entire association. It is time to ask our familiar question. What can we as an association of churches do to help your church? Contact me by phone , toll

5 Braggadocio: January was very cold and slow passing, but it was a time when we could stay inside, study and pray. Many churches closed services, some more than once. We had one baptism to start the new year, which was very exciting. We suffered a great loss when one of our most faithful and fruitful members moved into the presence of her Lord and Saviour. Betty Faris grew up near Cape, at Illmo Missouri. While in college there, she met Charles Albert. They were married 63 years. Betty played the piano most of those years. She also played for services at nursing homes, funerals, weddings and associational meetings. We miss her so much but we praise God for allowing us to know her. Our great loss is Heaven's gain. March is just around the corner and we are all looking forward to some warmer weather. Our thoughts and plans are already focusing on camps and Vacation Bible School. We enjoy special music from our children and our adults use their talents to lead, direct, sing and play. We are so blessed and inspired through their talent as we worship our Saviour Caruthersville FBC: Spring is just around the corner and we're looking forward to warm weather and sunny days. We had a wonderful turnout for the Senior Adult S.O.U.P (Sixty on up) group at the parsonage. Jim & Vicky DeReign and Shelby Walker are now the planning committee for the group. This is a wonderful time of fellowship and sharing of God's Word. This quarter, the Earl Bullington class provided the breakfast between Sunday School and worship service. It was a great experience with wonderful attendance and our young and old having fellowship together. The annual "Men's Day" was a huge success, the choir was full, Dr. Doug Fitzwater and Jon Constant were the speakers and Jonathan Jones presented his first Children's Sermon. They all did a wonderful job. Dr. Doug Fitzwater is teaching "Experiencing God" every Sunday night at 4:00. The Tallapoosa Men's Conference was held February 22 and the Temple Women's conference on March 1st. WOM are busy collecting items for Easter baskets to be distributed by Social Service workers to foster children in the county. They continue their study of the book "A Lineage of Grace by Francine Rivers. Chris and Kristy Riggs continue to do such an amazing job with the youth of our church. They made 275 pizzas and profited about $ for the Jonathan Creek Summer camp down payment. The Valentine dinner for the senior adults, scheduled for Feb. 8th, had to be cancelled due to bad weather. It will be rescheduled later. Winter Jam in Memphis is on the calendar for March 2nd. It is wonderful to see the youth so active in Sunday School and church. Morgan and Vaughn continue doing a fantastic job with the Children's P.R.A.I.S.E. team. Their Valentine's Party was February 16th and they are already at work on the Easter program in April. Phillip Barksdale continues to do an outstanding job as Minister of Music working with the youth choir, the Praise and Worship Team, the adult choir. Work has also begun on the Easter program and plans are being made for a possible senior choir. Cottonwood: Greetings from Cottonwood. By the time you read this, we should be back in the swing of things on the building project. Due to inclement weather, we have been at a standstill; however, God knows best and is so good to us. We have had a wonderful February. Bro. Mickey almost lost his beard! Sometime ago he challenged the church that when we had 50 in attendance, he would shave his beard. Well...on February 9th, we had 66 in our morning worship!! We had a wonderful time in the Lord as we baptized two new believers and celebrated with a potluck lunch afterwards. The next Sunday, Bro. Mick showed up with a shaving kit in one hand and a check to the building fund in the other. Needless to say, the church voted to accept the donation to the building fund in lieu of him shaving his beard!! God continues to pour out his blessings with gifts from individuals toward our building project and the approval of our grant application from Oldham Little Church Foundation!!! Our God is so AMAZING!!!!! Holly Grove: Hello from your friends at the Holly Grove. On Sunday, February 2nd, Ground Hogs' Day, because of sleet, ice and some snow that week we canceled Sunday night services. We also canceled Sunday night services on February 5th. We had to change our business meeting from the 5th to the 12th because of the bad weather. The Associational Youth Valentine Fellowship was postponed on the 12th. On Saturday, the 15th we had our Keenagers Valentine Celebration for all the senior adults. We planned a road trip to leave the church parking lot at 5:00 p.m. and head to Reelfoot to eat fish and have a great time. We helped with the C.D.H.S. food pantry on the 13th and 15th. Our WMU ladies worked on our monthly donation of items for the Haven in Blytheville. In February the needed items were hair spray, brushes, combs, and toothbrushes. It is hard to understand how so many needs are in our world when most of us have so much. Please remember our prayer list. It seems to grow each month. We continue to pray for all of our churches and our country. We have had several members out with medical problems during this month. The Lord has blessed us with answered prayers and we give Him all the glory. We have a baptismal service planned when our weather warms up a little. We hope our list grows by the time we are ready. We have less than 3 weeks before spring. Mrs. Sherrie Lynn has agreed to be our VBS Director this year. Everyone is so busy and the work has to start early.
6 FBC, PORTAGEVILLE: Hopefully, Spring is just around the corner. With the thought of Spring and the new life that it brings, we are so excited about the new things the Lord is providing us here at First Baptist. Bro. John Compere and his family will begin their new pastorate here with us on Sunday, March 2nd. If you see them out around, be sure and welcome them to the bootheel. On Sunday night, March 9th following the evening services we will be having a "Pounding" Fellowship for the Compere's. This will be a fun time to fellowship and get to know this sweet family better. On Friday, February 28th we hosted The Lesters from St. Louis, MO at First Baptist. The weekend of March 14-15, we are looking forward to taking our youth to Nashville, TN for the Youth Evangelism Conference. We are already praying that the Lord will work in the lives of our youth while we are there and that they will come back ready to serve Jesus with every part of their lives. Then on Friday, March 28th at 7:00 p.m. we will be hosting The Joylanders from Trenton, TN. If you have not had the privilege of attending a concert by The Joylanders, you need to be here. These are some of the most talented people we know in the Mid-South area. They love the Lord and you can see that through every song they sing. They also do a variety of styles that everyone will enjoy. There will be no admission charged for this concert but a love offering will be received. We look forward to all the good things the Lord is going to do at and through First Baptist Church this Spring. FBC, Hayti: The Pace Makers of the FBC of Hayti met for a time of good food and fellowship on February 18th before going to the Hayti Nursing Home to share Valentines and gifts of fruit with the residents. On Saturday, March 8th, the FBC will be conducting a Sunday School Clinic under the direction of Dalton Simpson, our Sunday School Director. This clinic is for the FBC to encourage us to build our Sunday School attendance as well as outreach. Also, on March we will be in a Weekend Spring Revival with Bro. Ron Shrum as our Evangelist and Randy Turnage leading the worship. Vacation Bible School will be June as the children enlist in Agency D3 and will learn to Discover, Decide and Defend the faith. On a sad note, we lost one of the sweetest ladies. Mrs. Elsie Rogers passed on February 21st. She will be greatly missed by the entire fellowship of the FBC. Yes, its time to begin planning for summer. The association will be getting the Sampler Kits in the month of March and we are planning on having a clinic for the Vacation Bible School Directors in the association. At this meeting we will decide whether to have a general clinic or just let our Directors take the information and train their own workers. If your church would like a kit please contact Bro. Tim to let him know whether you want a small or large one. You can do this by phone at , toll free , or by at semoba@sbcglobal.net. Plan to reach children, youth, and their parents this summer through Vacation Bible School. Remember to get your church news into the Associational Missions Center before the 15th of the month before publication. April news is needed by March 15th. You can the church news to semoba@sbcglobal.net.
