2 Shawnee Lodge #830 History Just a touch of Shawnee History and how Shawnee Lodge #830 has been involved in Masonry. This is from an insert from the book KENTUCKY FREEMASONRY ; THE GRAND LODGE AND THE MEN WHO MADE IT BY GUTHRIE. It picks up at undoubtedly the dedication of the new home during the Grand Lodge communication October 18, 1927, was the proudest moment of Kentucky Masonic history. After a call to order by Lee E. Cralle, President of the Board of Directors, and the invocation by Grand Chaplain E.R. Overly, the children sang The Star Spangled Banner at the flag raising ceremony. P.G.M. ( ) James Gar nett, Chairman of the Building Committee, presented the Home, and Grand Master Charles S. Rankin and the Grand Lodge Officers dedicated it. P.G.M. ( ) G. Allision Holland, who has served long and well on the Million Dollar Commit tee, then gave an address. Mrs. Pleasant Brooks sang My Old Kentucky Home, followed by Grand Master Lee H. Fox of Tennessee with another address. The Grand Masters of the Grand Lodges of Illinois,Indiana,Ohio,Virginia and West Vir ginia each made brief remarks. The St. Johns Day League dedicated the Infirmary; the officers of the Grand Chapter of Kentucky, R.A.M., dedicated the Order of the Eastern Star of Kentucky, dedicated Cottage 8 in which the Grand Chapter had fur nished five rooms. During the dedication ceremonies, members of Shawnee Lodge #830 presented an automobile to Superintendent T.J. Adams. CONTINUED FROM SECRETARY CORNER Thank you to Al Dixon, Estill Jackson, Ron Hendrick, Geary Laird and Fred Mathis, who came out to the Valley, Shawnee and Shively Outdoor Master Mason Degree. If I missed anyone else please let me know so I will quit taking these CRS pills. A head count was done because many members failed to sign the Tilers Book. Seventy Five Master Masons was counted and each and every one of them had a big smile on their faces. We may have been muddy, it may have taken five hours to raise these three Brothers but none of the Brothers will ever forget the great time we had on this Saturday. This is what Masonry is about getting out of your comfort zone and visiting other Lodges and finding out the success and failures of other Lodges. By doing this we will know what not to do and what we might want to try to do. I would like everyone to say a prayer for our Junior Steward, Al Dixon and former Secretary Ron Skipper. These two individuals were always at Lodge when the door was open. Both are facing health battles.
3 FROM THE SECRETARY S CORNER I would first like to welcome all the members from the former Progress Lodge. I am looking forward to meeting each and every new member of Shawnee Lodge. Shawnee Lodge is your Lodge and you have the right to attend, voice your ideas and improve OUR lodge. I look forward to seeing all of you at our future meetings. We will be celebrating Past Master s night on Tuesday September 6, Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. and Presentations will start at 7:30 p.m. If you like Barbecued pork, then I urge you to attend. I look forward to seeing all of you there. Shawnee Lodge has always strived to do great work in the community, for member s family and the ritual work for our new members. Like all Lodges throughout the Commonwealth of Kentucky we have started to struggle with membership. We have plenty of Members, we currently do not have enough active members. Most Lodges in Kentucky can expect less that 10% of their Members attending Lodge. I certainly understand with the average age of 68 years old, many cannot attend Lodge because of transportation issues. If any of our Members wish to attend Lodge, I am reaching out to you, so please call me, Rick Laird at I promise you, I will get you to your Lodge. Although transportation is an issue, the bigger issue is that many of our Members do not make Lodge a priority; as in the past. I am not pointing a finger at anyone, all that is being done here is finding out what our Lodge needs to do, to get our Members back in and get active. Our ritual work has suffered because of lack of participation. We do have a true core of Officers that meet regularly to practice our rituals. As always my hat is off to Brothers like Pierre Janssen who does such outstanding Degree work. There are many more just like him, but we cannot have successful degree work, if only three or four participate and learn. We need to work hard to get successful not only for today but for many years to come. I am asking anyone who wants a part on a degree, to come to Lodge and let the Officers know you are interested. During our August 15th, 2016 meeting, we had to elect a new Master and Secretary of Shawnee. The former Master and Secretary had indicated they had scheduling conflicts with their jobs. We wish both of these Brothers the very best in their vocations and hope sometime soon they may be able to again attend Lodge. Shawnee Lodge elected by acclimation Doug Laslie as Master for the remainder of 2016 and Rick Laird Secretary for the remainder of I know Doug thanks all of you for your faith in him for taking this station, and I do also. Jim Cain, a very prominent Mason and Shriner in Tennessee said, this organization can fail because not enough people make it a priority to participate. Wouldn t that be a terrible shame if our Lodge had to merge or even worse close because we did not grow? It is up to all of us. This is Shawnee Lodge we have the numbers, now we need to roll up sleeves and get to work. I am committed to the first and third Tuesdays of the month; are you? I certainly hope so, we have some great Officers coming and they will need everyone s help. Old Masters Wages I Met a Dear Old Man Today Who Wore a Masonic Pin It Was Old and Faded like the Man It's Edges Were Worn and Thin. I Approached the Park Bench Where He Sat to Give the Old Brother His Due I Said, "I See You've Traveled East He Said, "I Have, Have You?" I Said, I Have and in My Day Before the All Seeing Sun I Played in the Rubble with Jubala Jubilo and Jubalum. He Shouted, Don't Laugh at the Work My Son It's Good and Sweet and True And If You've Traveled as You Said You Should Give These Things a Due. The Work, the Sign, the Token, the Sweet Masonic Prayer. The Vow That You Have Taken You Have Climbed the Inner Stair.
