1 Trinity Lutheran of Freistadt Church School Child Care March 10, 2019 Welcome Guests! We are glad you are here! Here are a few things we thought you would like to know to help you feel at home with us today: Please accept one of the green bags that you will find on your way out of the front entrance of the sanctuary as our gift to you. Restrooms are located in the large room adjacent to the sanctuary. Our ushers will be glad to point you in the proper direction. Children are always welcome to worship with us and sincerely, that is what we prefer. However, for your convenience, a nursery is available for parents with children 3 years old and younger who might wish to use it. The nursery is staffed during the 9:15 Bible Study Hour & 10:45am service. Parents may use this room during the 8:00am service as well, but the room will not be staffed by volunteers. An usher will be happy to help you find the nursery room. The offering is an opportunity for our members to support the Lord s work at Trinity. As our guest, we ask only that you sign our Friendship Pad as it is passed down the pew. When we celebrate the Lord s Supper, we do so convinced that Jesus gives us His true body and blood for the forgiveness of our sins. Receiving the Lord s Supper here expresses not only fellowship with the Lord, but also agreement with the teachings of this congregation. Therefore communicant members of LC-MS congregations are always welcome to commune with us, and other guests wishing to commune are kindly asked to speak with the pastor before the service. We cherish the opportunity to worship with all followers of Jesus, and we regret the sad divisions within Christianity. Whether you are 1 communing with us today or not, please join us (and Jesus!) in praying for truth and unity within His Church. This facility is equipped with a hearing assistance system. Please ask an usher for a receiver. We would love to have your family join us for our Fellowship Hour & T3 that takes place Sunday mornings at 9:15am. Ask any of our members or the pastor and we will be happy to help you find your way and get settled in. In Christ, Pastor Carl Lehenbauer

2 6:00 PM LED BY RICK ADAMS Video Based Study featuring Tim Keller (Author of Prodigal God, Gospel in Life, Counterfeit Gods) For six Wednesdays in Lent, beginning March 13th and concluding on April 17th (the Wednesday of Holy Week,) we will examine a different Psalm for the Journey of Lent, addressing our broken humanity and leading us to see that the world is not as it should be. But one of the ironic aspects of the season of Lent is that it takes place during the spring of the year as days lengthen and grow brighter. These Psalms, which are essentially prayers, point to the end of the story Easter Sunday and the ultimate restoration of all things. Our world can often be a dark place, and yet this study of these select Psalms can refresh a parched soul and provide us with what we need most: repentance, rest, security, and hope. Each week s study includes a video with a Bible study to follow, making each session last approximately 75 minutes. WEDNESDAY, MARCH 13TH Psalm 32 (A Prayer of Confession) WEDNESDAY, MARCH 20TH Psalms 42 & 43 (A Prayer of Thirst) WEDNESDAY, MARCH 27TH Psalm 91 (A Prayer of Rest) WEDNESDAY, APRIL 3RD Psalm 98 (A Prayer for the World) WEDNESDAY, APRIL 10TH Psalm 110 (A Prayer for the King) WEDNESDAY, APRIL 17TH Psalm 16 (A Prayer for Security) Register your family on our website Invite others to hear about Jesus! HOW CAN YOU HELP? Donate: small individually wrapped Easter candy, fruit snacks, etc. that will fit into small eggs. For our toddlers, we are looking for apple sauce pouches, individually wrapped Gold Fish and Teddy Grahams. Deliver to the church office by April 5. Money donations also welcome. Help: Adults & teens can hide eggs or supervise an age group hunt. Sign up on the bulletin board next to the elevator in the school entrance or contact Cindy at cmollwitz@trinityfreistadt.com Attention all cooks!!!!! A Place of Refuge is in a unique situation. Four of our five moms living at Refuge House have given birth within the last three weeks and one more is on the way! We are in extreme need of pre-made meals to help the moms out. Some moms had Csections so it will be a month before they are back on cooking rotation. There are a total of 9 mouths to feed including children. The only allergy to be concerned of is citrus/ pineapple. Midweek Lenten Services Wednesdays at 4:30 PM March 13, 20 & 27 April 3 & 10 Since most of our moms are breast feeding, brussel sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower, peas, asparagus and spicy foods should be avoided for the comfort of the babies. Please contact Kris, our House Manager, if you re able to help us out. Her number is Thank you in advance!!!!!!!

3 Prayer Before Worship Gracious Father, thank You for bringing me here to this time of worship. Give me eyes to see Your grace and ears to hear Your Words. Fill my heart with Your Spirit and send me into Your world to be Your hands and feet, through Jesus Christ, Amen. Divine Service 3 5:00pm & 8:00am Time of Greeting Old Testament Reading: Deuteronomy 26: 1-11 When you have entered the land the LORD your God is giving you as an inheritance and have taken possession of it and settled in it, take some of the firstfruits of all that you produce from the soil of the land the LORD your God is giving you and put them in a basket. Then go to the place the LORD your God will choose as a dwelling for his Name and say to the priest in office at the time, "I declare today to the LORD your God that I have come to the land the LORD swore to our forefathers to give us." The priest shall take the basket from your hands and set it down in front of the altar of the LORD your God. Then you shall declare before the LORD your God: "My father was a wandering Aramean, and he went down into Egypt with a few people and lived there and became a great nation, powerful and numerous. But the Egyptians mistreated us and made us suffer, putting us to hard labor. Then we cried out to the LORD, the God of our fathers, and the LORD heard our voice and saw our misery, toil and oppression. So the LORD brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm, with great terror and with miraculous signs and wonders. He brought us to this place and gave us this land, a land flowing with milk and honey; and now I bring the firstfruits of the soil that you, O LORD, have given me." Place the basket before the LORD your God and bow down before him. And you and the Levites and the aliens among you shall rejoice in all the good things the LORD your God has given to you and your household. P: This is the Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God. Epistle Reading: Romans 10: 8b-13 "The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart," that is, the word of faith we are proclaiming: That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. As the Scripture says, "Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame." For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile--the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, for, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." P: This is the Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God. Gospel Good News: Luke 4: 1-13 (Sermon Text) Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit in the desert, where for forty days he was tempted by the devil. He ate nothing during those days, and at the end of them he was hungry. The devil said to him, "If you are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread." Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Man does not live on bread alone.'" The devil led him up to a high place and showed him in an instant all the kingdoms of the world. And he said to him, "I will give you all their authority and splendor, for it has been given to me, and I can give it to anyone I want to. So if you worship me, it will all be yours." Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Worship the Lord your God and serve him only.'" The devil led him to Jerusalem and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. "If you are the Son of God," he said, "throw yourself down from here. For it is written: "'He will command his angels concerning you to guard you carefully; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.'" Jesus answered, "It says: 'Do not put the Lord your God to the test.'" When the devil had finished all this tempting, he left him until an opportune time. P: This is the Gospel of the Lord. In a good way. So many ideas and perspectives are swirling around in my head, since attending the recent Best Practices for Ministry conference. Each member of our team attended 8 breakout sessions and there were over 200 breakout sessions to choose from. It was difficult to narrow down my choices! On the first day of the conference, I attended a session entitled Breaking Down the Walls. The session was about breaking down the walls of shame and secrecy that keep parents from discussing the pain of having a child who has left the faith. The break-out leader, a daughter of a LCMS pastor, was raised in a loving Christian home, along with her two brothers. One by one, each one fell away from faith in Christ. How painful that was for their parents. Enabled by the Holy Spirit, she returned to the faith after 25 years. Her brothers are still lost. She and her father, who has since passed away, began an outreach to parents with prodigals. Their mission is to encourage parents to never give up on their prodigals, as they are never out of the reach of God. By way of support groups, parents encourage one another while working through feelings of failure and hurt. The process of talking about it and exploring Scripture, heals and empowers. The message to all parents of prodigals: You are not alone! Don t give up! Keep praying! Love continually! The Holy Spirit is at work! He is at work in you and He is at work in your child(ren). Parents can find great comfort knowing that God is relentlessly pursuing His lost sheep. I left the session wondering if there was a parent at Trinity who would be interested in leading a support group for parents of prodigals. Perhaps that person is you? And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12:1 2 Lord, our God and Father, we thank You for letting us walk in the way of Jesus Christ, for helping us on the way to the Cross. Come what may, we belong to the Savior, and we are Your children. We want to be joyful and full of faith, full of hope, full of patience, for Your mercy leads us on. In all we experience how often we can say, Thanks be to God. He has helped us here, He has helped there, He helps every day in spite of all the evil in the world. Praise and thanks and honor be to Him forever! Amen. Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father s good pleasure to give you the kingdom. Luke 12:32 Lord our God, we come to You as a little flock, asking You to accept us and keep us as Your own, whom You will redeem in your time. Protect us always so that we remain strong in faith.
