2 The Breadbox for April will go to Mercy House of the Southern Tier. Mercy House has been open for 2 and ½ years and provides a home and a supportive family to people with terminal illnesses who can no longer remain at home. Residents spend their final days surrounded by their loved ones and the love of Mercy House staff and volunteers. There are private bedrooms with TV and telephone, home-cooked meals including nourishing soups for families as well as residents, a chapel and spiritual support. Visiting hours are open for family and friends. Through December of 2018, Mercy House has cared for 275 residents and their families. More information is available on line at Mercy House of the Southern Tier. You can donate using the breadbox envelope in your packet or use the envelope in the pew rack and place it in any offering plate during the month of April. Clothes and More We will be collecting spring and summer clothes beginning in April. We ask that they be clean and in good shape and up to date. At this point, we have a lot of women's shorts and capris, so if you have another source for accepting these items, that would be appreciated. People who come for Free Clothes and More have benefitted greatly from the quality items you have provided. We do take bedding, some toys, and household items as well. Thanks go to Phylis Finch, Nancy Brown, Anna James who help sort and stock the room. Donations can be placed in the bin in the entry way, not in the clothing room itself. Please be aware that our church family can make use of what is available at any time that the church is open. All items are free. Bake Sale! 3 Sunday May 5 The Dunnemans present their 25 th Homecoming Concert On Sunday May 5, Reg and Gretchen Dunneman give their 25 th Homecoming Concert at 6:00PM at Main Street Baptist Church, located at 117 Main Street in Binghamton. Reg and Gretchen Dunneman from Binghamton, NY, sing their own special blend of gospel music, including southern gospel, traditional, hymn, classical, country, and contemporary Christian styles. Their fulltime ministry presents over 250 concerts a year from churches to campgrounds anywhere from Ontario to Florida. They have produced eleven recordings which will be available at the concert: Feeding His Flock, There's Something Going On, Tell Them This, Jesus Saves, Timeless, Confident, Before the Throne, How Big Is Your God, and You Never Know Where the Music Goes are general collections. Their Christmas album is entitled, Angels, Shepherds and a Star. The Recital features Gretchen singing classic church solos. Wonderful Grace is a collection of hymns. Reg Dunneman, a native of Stratford, Ontario, grew up in a musical family and played piano at an early age. He organized The Victors Trio and then The Tabernacle Trio, which sang in Ontario for ten years. For 20 years, he sang with Canada s Galileans, a Southern Gospel quartet that toured Canada and the United States. Gretchen has been a member of The Friendship Trio, singing in churches and Bible conferences. She also sang with the Broome County (NY) Savoyards, performing Gilbert and Sullivan operettas, and in the choruses of the BC Pops, the Binghamton Symphony Orchestra and the Tri-Cities Opera, all in Binghamton, New York. Their joyful, challenging and uncompromising message of God's love and provision is an inspiration to all who listen. Jesus said, If you love me, feed my sheep. Reg and Gretchen's love for Christ transcends denominational lines. Their gifts are dedicated to building up the body of Christ. A love offering will be received and their recordings will be available for purchase.

4 A look back over 100 years ago! MAIN STREET BAPTIST CHURCH Our losses by death have been unusually serious, both in the church and congregation. The Death of Mr. W.S Hotchkin was a heavy blow as he was one of our most interested and faithful friend. - An excerpt of Main Street Baptist s June 1899 letter to Broom Tioga Baptist Association. In the cloak room there is a window for Trustee W.S. Hotchkin and Family. Mr. Hotchkin was an original Trustee of this church. Originally from Otsego County, NY, he served in CO E First New York Engineers during the American Civil War. His unit was sent to Virginia. Interestingly enough, the University of Virginia s Library has his Civil War Diaries ( ) in their special collection. You can read selections from it as well as related information on their website. In Binghamton, he operated a real estate business, Hotchkin and Son. Mr. Hotchkin died on April 8, The Hotchkin Family resided at 101 Main Street. The house was demolished several years ago. Several of his children played important roles in our church history. His daughter Kate, sometimes served as the church organist. His daughter, Lina was married to LR Davis. There is a window for Mr. Davis near the front entrance. Charles and his wife Grace Bartoo Hotchkin were the last original charter members still attending Main Street until their deaths in the 1960s. Grace was the sister of the architect Elfred H Bartoo who designed the new church structure (1903). In the sanctuary there is a window for their parents, Jesse and Henrietta Bartoo. Madeline Creighton Haynes is listed on the large sanctuary window facing Main Street. According to the membership rolls, she joined Main Street Baptist on March 22, 1899 with her parents Rev. and Mrs. LMS Haynes DD by letter from the famous Judson Memorial church in New York City. (* However, Rev Haynes ministry at Main Street actually began on February 22, 1899). She died just a very short time later on April 13, 1899 at age 37. Rev. Haynes remained minister here until October 1902.
