Gathering around God s Word PROCESSIONAL HYMN We Gather Together, PH 559 CHIMES GREETINGS and ANNOUNCEMENTS Please sign and pass the fellowship pad to the inside aisle. MINUTE for MISSION Stewardship 2018 Elder Jay Frey PREPARATION for WORSHIP Thanks for Giving Words and Music by Pepper Choplin Thanks for giving, for giving beauty to the earth. Thanks for giving, for giving love to us from birth. For the beauty of the earth and the glories of the skies, for the love which from our birth around us lies. Thanks for giving the precious gift of human love. Thanks for giving friends on earth and friends above, all the people whom we cherish, all our friends and family and the ones we love who live in our memory. O Lord of all, to Thee we raise this our hymn of grateful praise. Thanks for giving, for giving a chance to live another day. Thanks for giving, for giving the time to love and work and play. From the rising of the morning to the glow of restful night, we will live the day to embrace the gift of life. O Lord, we embrace Your blessings. Thanks for giving this time and place to worship You. Lord, now we re giving our gifts of joyful gratitude. When we count our many blessings, we are thankful and amazed. So we offer gifts of love and grateful praise. O Lord of all, to Thee we raise this our hymn of grateful praise, our song of grateful praise. OPENING PRAYER unison Gracious and all-powerful God, we come into Your presence this special Sunday, acknowledging You as Sovereign, and in so doing, acknowledge ourselves as Your people. 2

Through the life of Your Son, Jesus Messiah, You showed Your nature to be that of a Servant-King, a King for whom love and mercy, humility and grace, faith and faithfulness are the way of life! And You call us to the same. Remind us that it is in self-sacrifice, not in self-promotion, that we will find joy; that it is in our weaknesses that we will receive Your Spirit and be made strong. Our hope is in You, O Lord, in hearing the voice of our Good Shepherd and in following where You lead. Grant us the wisdom and the courage to listen and obey. We pray in the precious name of Messiah Jesus, Amen. CALL to WORSHIP responsively ~from Psalm 100 One: Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth. Many: Worship the Lord with gladness; come into God s presence with singing! One: Know that the Lord is God. God made us, and we are God s people. Many: Enter God s house with thanksgiving and praise! All: The Lord is good. God s love is steadfast and endures forever. God s faithfulness knows no boundary, no end! OPENING HYMN of PRAISE Rejoice, Ye Pure in Heart! PH 145 CONFESSION and time of Self-examination unision Righteous God, You have crowned Jesus Messiah as Lord of all. We confess that we have not bowed before Him, and are slow to acknowledge His rule. Commonly, we give allegiance to the powers of this world, and fail to be governed by justice and love. In Your mercy, forgive us. Raise us to acclaim Him as ruler of all, that we may be loyal ambassadors, obeying the commands of our Master, Jesus. Hear now our individual confessions SILENT PRAYER of CONFESSION And all of God s children say: Amen! The RESPONSE I Surrender All, PH 596, v.1 ASSURANCE of PARDON responsively ~from Psalm 100:5 However long we wander, however far we stray, God s steadfast love endures forever. 3

Sisters and brothers, be assured: Thanks be to God, in Jesus Christ we are forgiven! he was raised for us and prays for us. Believe the promise of your baptism: in Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! GLORIA PATRI PASSING the PEACE of CHRIST May the Peace of Christ be with you! And also with you! HYMN of PREPARATION Give Thanks, CH 170 Encountering God s Word PRAYER for ILLUMINATION unison ~from Ephesians 1:17-18 Holy God, open your Word. Give us a spirit of wisdom and revelation, that our eyes may be enlightened and we may know the hope to which we have been called; through Messiah Jesus, we pray. Amen! CHILDREN S MESSAGE Telling Your Friends about Jesus Miss Jane The CHORAL ANTHEM We See Christ Words and Music by Joel Raney When we look at the needy, we see Christ. When we reach for the hopeless, we are reaching for Christ. When we feed the thirsty and hungry, when we love the outcast and lonely, when we see a world in need, we see Christ. When we see the lost and homeless, we see Christ. When we comfort the grieving, we bring comfort to Christ. When we give with hearts that are open, when we help the tired and the broken, when we see a world in need, we see Christ. We are yours, Lord, make us your instruments of peace, bringing hope where all seems hopeless, filling darkness with your light. We are yours, Lord, you paid the price. And please remind us, Lord, when we see a world in need, we see Christ. 4

SCRIPTURE FOR THE DAY Matthew 25: When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on the throne of his glory. 32 All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats, 33 and he will put the sheep at his right hand and the goats at the left. 34 Then the king will say to those at his right hand, Come, you that are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; 35 for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, 36 I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me. 37 Then the righteous will answer him, Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry and gave you food, or thirsty and gave you something to drink? 38 And when was it that we saw you a stranger and welcomed you, or naked and gave you clothing? 39 And when was it that we saw you sick or in prison and visited you? 40 And the king will answer them, Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me. 41 Then he will say to those at his left hand, You that are accursed, depart from me into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels; 42 for I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not give me clothing, sick and in prison and you did not visit me. 44 Then they also will answer, Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not take care of you? 45 Then he will answer them, Truly I tell you, just as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me. 46 And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life. One: The Word of God. Many: Thanks be to God! MORNING MESSAGE Turning Goats into Sheep Pastor John Responding to God s Word 5

OFFERING Call & Dedication PRAYER unison ~from Matthew 25 Holy God, use us, and these gifts, to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, and honor your presence in all people; we pray, through Jesus Messiah, our Lord. Amen. OFFERTORY DOXOLOGY Our LORD S PRAYER Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth, as it is in Heaven! Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen!
