3 EVENING GROUP Tuesday, January :30 p.m. Payne Education Center, Room 217 The Faith in Literature group explores, discusses and makes relevant connections between faith and works of fiction, past and present. While operating within the framework of Christian theology, we seek to ascertain in our reading how all good literature, if even by its omission, deals with and reflects themes of faith. 5 Marathon Sunday, January 20 Runners in the Chevron Houston Marathon may not be running by St. Martin s, but your drive to church may require a few extra twists and turns on the following streets: Eastbound Woodway Drive traffic (west of Chimney Rock) will be forced to turn south on Chimney Rock. Eastbound traffic on Memorial Drive (west of Chimney Rock) will be forced to go north on Chimney Rock. While no lunch will be offered on Marathon Sunday, you will not have to run, or walk, far for the free breakfast that will be served 7:30 10 a.m. in Café St. Martin s. Children s Ministry Communion Instruction Sundays, January 20 and 27 10:15 a.m. Payne Education Center, Room 202/204 Join us for the two-week series teaching children about the Eucharist. The class is designed for children 2 nd grade and older, but all ages are invited to attend. Parent or significant adult participation is required to help children continue learning at home. 6 Guest Preacher The Rev. Dr. Mark Anschutz Sunday, January 27 8 a.m., 9 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. The Church The Rev. Dr. Mark Anschutz is a third generation Episcopal priest who has spent more than 30 years as the rector at churches in Massachusetts, Virginia, New York and Texas. The Rev. Dr. Anschutz received his BA from Drury College, MST from Berkeley Divinity School at Yale, Doctor of Ministry from Andover- Newton Theological Seminary and honorary Doctor of Divinity from Sewanee: The University of the South. He has been deeply involved in several initiatives to aid the Episcopal Church in raising up young and gifted persons for ordained ministry and been active in the greater church s ministry to those suffering from chemical addictions. The Rev. Dr. Anschutz is the editor/author of From the Rector, a compilation of prayers, and serves as a member of the Chapter of The Washington National Cathedral. 66 th Annual PARISH MEETING Sunday, January 27 10:15 a.m. Bagby Parish Hall Parishioners are invited to attend the Annual Parish Meeting to learn about progress in the preceding year and plans for Sunday School for adults will not be offered on this Sunday so that all will have the opportunity to attend. Lunch and Learn: MIND Diet Wednesday, January 16 Noon 1 p.m. We ve known that the health of the brain and the body are connected, but now science is able to provide insights into how to make lifestyle choices that may help you keep your brain and body healthy as you age. Join us to learn about research in the areas of diet and nutrition (particularly the MIND Diet!), exercise, cognitive activity and social engagement. Introduction to Play Therapy Wednesday, January 23 6:30 8 p.m. Join us for an introduction to using play therapy with your younger clients (and maybe their older relatives too!). This 90-minute presentation will include a description of what play therapy is, what it isn t and some ideas for adding it to your practice. This CEU event is geared toward Mental Health Professionals. Navigating the Teenage Brain Wednesday, January 30 6:30 7:30 p.m. Have you ever wondered why teens make the decisions they do? This presentation will outline how brain development and stress play a major role in the behaviors we see in our children as they grow and develop.
